Creating The World

Not sure how else to start this so best just begin at the game creation screen. I’ve selected a variety of editor files along with the real name fix and my Competition colour fix to increase the authenticity of the save.

  • Football Manager 2021 Real Names Licence Fix
  • Golden Boy & Kopa Trophy – NO REPEAT WINNERS

  • Removed Mikel Arteta

As I always approach my save with some sort of realism at the start, we will be taking over the control of Arsenal as Mikel Arteta. So I have created a quick file that removes him from the game – avoiding what could be an awkward meeting.

I decided to load five counties as my 2016 13-inch MacBook Pro can only perform so well. We’ve got the entire English pyramid and top division of the other four big European nations. I have also used the custom database option to make sure other players are loaded into the game. I’ve also disabled the first window transfer activity as to not mess with the squad too soon – this game is being started on the 21.3.0 patch.

Making A Manager

Now the game world has been created, we can get to taking over Mikel’s life… I mean… ignore me. We can start by recreating the likeness of Arteta with nationality, languages spoken and favourite teams. I’ve decided to go for Arsenal as his favourite team alongside Barcelona as I wasn’t too sure how much this would affect the game anyway.

When assigning a managerial style to a manager, you are forced to use all the coaching and mental attributes, so when you compare this to the original Mikel Arteta in the base game, we have an extra 21 coaching attributes and 5 mental attributes that we have to allocate. My solution to this was to steadily increase each stat while also increasing the weakest areas significantly such as goalkeeping, to help balance out the attributes.

If you’re following along at home, there is another step you can take to create the realistic manager impersonation – the in-game editor. For this save, I have shelled out the big bucks and purchased the in-game editor so I can make Arteta as realistic as possible.

The in-game editor allows you to expand more on the manager profile with favourite people, disliked people, disliked clubs, more languages and be able to edit attributes.

Salary Wage Cap

One thing I like to do in my games is to make sure the club has a loose salary cap that players can fall into. This will help with knowing a weekly salary range when contract negations come round.

Right now, Arsenal is paying out £2.4 million on wages per week. If we look at the players based on wage, we can see players who are no more than squad and regular starters on big money. Players like Lacazette, David Luiz, Nicolas Pepe, Willian and Cedric, all players who I wouldn’t consider guaranteed starters.

Using a salary wage cup formula, I have been able to identify each playing time groups maximum wage. Those already mentioned and captain, Aubameyang break the wage structure I’m trying to implement. While this is just a guide, those on big wages will not be renewed unless significant progress is made at the club

Team Responsibilities

Another exciting aspect of impersonating a manager is following an already existing club culture and structure. At Arsenal, Mikel Arteta is responsible for the first team, not the entire football club as the game sets as default.

Our Managing director will be responsible for the recruitment of key staff and renewing their contracts while our existing technical director; Edu will be responsible for scouting and bringing players to my attention while also running the business aspect of the football world.

That’s it for this update but hopefully, it gives you the interest to stick around follow for more as I look to bring in my staff and navigate through pre-season and an early trip to Wembley with the FA Community Shield against Liverpool.

Thanks for reading.
