Introduction

After the most recent Ligue 1 season drew to a close with Lille awarded as French champions, one point ahead of PSG, I decided this would be a fun short term save to take over the French moneybags. Nasser Al-Khelaifi wasted no time to strengthen the squad, adding Wijnaldum, Hakimi, Donnarumma and Sergio Ramos to the already incredibly talented side. Although I will aim to win Ligue 1 (as expected), the one goal of this save will be to win the elusive Champions League that PSG have been chasing the past few seasons. As I mentioned, the team is already incredibly stacked full of talent, but I will still not hesitate to strengthen even further if I find the right players to add to the team. I will do whatever it takes to win the Champions League, and hopefully it won’t take more than a season or two. This is a short term, fun story and if you already think it is pointless because PSG have so much money, then don’t follow my journey. If it does interest you, welcome! And I hope you enjoy the updates.
Chapter 1

Unfortunately for me during pre-season, Kylian Mbappe picked up an injury (shin splints) and was out for 4-6 weeks. With Mbappe out and Icardi carrying a knock, I opted for a front three of Rafinha, Neymar and Di Maria. With PSG this season I will aim to play 4-3-3 and 3-4-3 against weaker opponents. As I mentioned in the introduction, we have already acquired some incredible new talent through the transfer update. All four of the new signings will feature in my best eleven. Donnarumma will be my first choice keeper after his superb achievements at the 2021 Euro winning Player of the Tournament and more importantly beating England in the final. Hakimi signed from Inter and will be my first choice right back throughout the season. Sergio Ramos left after a long spell with Real Madrid, and although he is ageing I am hoping that his experience and winning mentality will make us even stronger. Ramos will partner with Marquinhos as our center back partnership. The final addition, Gini Wijnaldum will be my first choice DM and again comes into the team with a Champions League title under his belt with Liverpool. I believe the chairman has done a fantastic job with all four of these signings, but I decided to add a couple more players to make us even stronger.

My first signing was another former Real Madrid star. Marcelo joined us to join Ramos for £6 million. I believe he is better than Juan Bernat and therefore he will be our first choice left back, especially for the Champions League games.

The second addition was transfer-listed Daniele Rugani from Juventus. He joined for a mere £4.7 million and will add great depth to our back line. This signing was especially useful as Kimpembe picked up an injury during pre-season that would see him miss at least the first month of the season.

Our Ligue 1 campaign began with a match at the Parc de Princes against Marseille. Kylian Mbappe wasn’t fully fit so Icardi started up front, with Di Maria and Neymar on the wings. The midfield three consisted of Verratti, Paredes and Wijnaldum. In defence there were four debuts! Marcelo, Ramos, Hakimi and Donnarumma all played their first match for PSG and Marquinhos was the only familiar face starting. We were expecting a tough match against Marseille, and that is exactly what we got. We took an early lead after Di Maria finished off a great cross from new lad Hakimi but Marseille equalised through Milik and we had to share the points. It wasn’t the perfect start to the season but at least we didn’t begin with a loss! I think it might take a little bit of time for all the new players to gel.

Chapter 2

Last time out we started our league campaign with a draw against Marseille, so we wanted to bounce back with a win. That is what we did, our first league win came against Angers. Mbappe was back from injury and scored off the bench, Neymar also scored a screamer, his first goal of the season. We went on to beat Lyon 2-0 at home, Mbappe again stole the show with a hat-trick. This was followed with a 2-0 win again against Lorient, Mbappe and Neymar the scorers again. These two are really starting to find form and dominate the French league, as I expected them to do. We changed to the 3-4-3 formation against Lens to try and play a bit more attacking. It somewhat failed as we went 1-0 down early, but came back to win. Marquinhos scored his first goal of the season, a header from a wide free kick to tie the game up, and once again Mbappe made the headlines by scoring the winner. Kylian now has 6 Ligue 1 goals in 5 appearances. Our final game of September 2020 was against Troyes. I was expecting a big win, and we sure came through with a 5-1 win. Neymar started the game incredibly well, scoring our first three goals to earn a first half hat-trick. In the second half we were awarded a penalty, Sergio Ramos stepped up and converted his first goal for the Club. Wijnaldum also joined the party with a fantastic long range strike to seal his first goal in Paris. After 6 games played we are top of the league with Marseille on 16 points each. I am certainly expecting to win the league but cannot wait to start our Champions League campaign, as that is our main goal.

Player of the Month: Kylian Mbappe

This was an easy choice, Kylian missed the first game through injury but since his return he has been incredible. His hat-trick against Lyon was his finest performance and he is currently the top goal scorer in Ligue 1 with 6 goals.

Think its well known that PSG should be winning the league every single year and I expect you will achieve just that. I also think with this squad, despite in some areas getting slightly old, you will have a very good shot at winning the Champions League. Good luck, although not sure how much luck you will need!

Chapter 3

As the transfer window was coming to a close, I was extremely happy with the current squad at my disposal. The one area I did want to strengthen was in the striker position. I currently have Icardi and Mbappe as natural strikers, so another backup would have been good. However, I couldn’t find a suitable player so I left the squad as it is. One player did leave. Idrissa Gueye handed in a transfer request within days of me joining the club. When Real Madrid came in with an offer I was happy to let him go. The Spanish giants paid £16.25 million for the 31-year old's services.

We began the month with a 4-2 win against Metz. That result meant we had now gone six straight wins in the league consecutively. Ramos scored his second penalty of the season and Neymar scored a beautiful free-kick to seal the win.

Our highly anticipated Champions League group stage was finally drawn, and this season we will face Porto, Besiktas and Atalanta. There were certainly easier groups, however with the talent in our squad we should be able to comfortably win the group and progress into the knockout stage.

Our next league match was against Saint Etienne, and with our opening Champions League game just a few days later, I played a rotated side. Mauro Icardi started his first league game of the season and lead the line up front. It was Icardi who was the man of the match and carried us to a 3-1 victory as he sealed a hat-trick and made a case for himself to be our first choice striker. The opening Champions League group game was against FC Porto at home. We won the match 2-0, Icardi scored his fourth goal in just two games and Mbappe scored his first goal of the month, running from halfway all the way into Porto’s box to finish calmly. We followed the win against Porto with an outstanding 6-0 win in the league against Clermont. Sergio Ramos scored a hat-trick of penalties, in his ‘coming out party’, proving he still has the goal scoring ability that he was famous for in Madrid. Next was a 0-3 win away against Besiktas in a hostile environment, Icardi with a brace to continue his hot-streak of form. Then we ended the month with a 0-6 win away against Nice. That was the second 6-0 result in consecutive league games. Icardi and Neymar scored a brace each, and Ramos scored a header to add to his tally. We have now won 9 matches in a row and sit at the top of Ligue 1 by 2 points ahead of Marseille. We are top of our Champions League group by 3 points and looking unbeatable at the moment. There was some bad news to end the month, Herrera and Icardi will be out for the next 4 weeks through injury. Herrera has featured sporadically but it is unfortunate for Icardi as he was playing so well and cementing himself as our first choice striker, with Mbappe playing out wide.

Player of the Month: Mauro Icardi

This month there were some outstanding performers, but for me, Icardi was the cream of the crop. Honourable mentions to Sergio Ramos and Donnarumma. Ramos scored 5 goals in 6 games and Donnarumma proved to be an inspirational signing with four consecutive clean sheets. But Icardi proved his worth this month, I somewhat overlooked him to begin the season, opting for Neymar and Di Maria out wide and Mbappe to lead the line. But with Icardi up top and Neymar and Mbappe on the wings we have looked a notch better moving forward. The Argentine netted 8 goals this month in just 6 appearances and without doubt his best performance was his hat-trick against Saint Etienne. Sadly he will be out injured for the next month, but after his performances lately he will no doubt be straight back into the starting lineup when he returns.

@TheLFCFan - hope I don't need any luck too. We obviously have an incredible squad but as we see in real life, you don't just win the Champions League by having a stacked squad. We will need to perform well and earn the title.
@Justice - Thanks mate
I've never done a save with a huge club like this, so I am interested in how it turns out- Have fun and good luck!

Another good month and some great performances from Icardi. The group could have been easier, but I still imagine you will have no trouble in topping it.

Chapter 4

We began November with our first Champions League game against Atalanta. We faced them in Italy which was arguably our toughest fixture in the group stage. Duvan Zapata gave Atalanta the lead, but Di Maria responded to earn us a point in the away fixture. However, when Atalanta returned to France for the second round, we smashed them 5-0! Mbappe scored a double, as well as Neymar, and Di Maria scored his second goal of the month in injury time. In the league we faced Bordeaux at home. Once again Mbappe scored a double, Neymar scored, and both our center backs scored. We then surprisingly failed to beat Strasbourg as that match ended 0-0. But we ended the month with another 5-0 win, this time Stade Rennais were the victim. Icardi returned from his injury with four goals, continuing his hot scoring streak, and Mbappe rounded out the win. We always seem to pick up injuries at the end of the month, and this time it was Neymar who will be out for 3 weeks and Wijnaldum out for 3-6 weeks. Our consistent form means we are now 13 games unbeaten in the league, equal top with Marseille, we have both won 11 and drawn 2. In the Champions League we have played 4 games and have 10 points, meaning we have secured qualification into the knockout stage, and we are one step closer to our main goal, winning the Champions League. Although we drew 2 matches this month, in the games we won were supremely dominant and are really asserting our power against weaker teams. Hopefully we can continue this form when we face more difficult opponents in the later stages of the Champions League.

Player of the Month: Kylian Mbappe

It was another tough decision this month. Although Icardi had the best performance, Mbappe was more consistent as he played more games and therefore contributed more. Mbappe scored 5 goals in 3 games this month and now his total goal tally for the season stands at 15 goals in 14 games. He is the leading goal scorer in Ligue 1 with 11 goals, and that is mainly from playing on the wing. He is arguably our most talented player and continues to lead us forward with his pace and brilliant dribbling.

@pancetta15 - I often do a save with Manchester United, as they are the team I support, but I have never managed PSG. I think it is a very different kind of challenge, as you are expected to win every single game! Hope you enjoy following the story.
@TheLFCFan - Yeah mate Icardi has been a bagsman! He is ruthless in front of goal. You're right our Champions League group isn't too difficult, and I expect us to top it without any trouble.
Surprised to see Marseille matching you so far after 13 games, fairly impressive for them to be doing so. I assume you are miles ahead in goal difference though. A great win at home to Atalanta as well!
