So, I have asked my bpd to mark the striker, problem is the striker stays on the halfway line whilst the defender is always up attacking for corners, free kicks etc, so is a. Not marking and b. Has no chance to get back. Any ideas?
Defender issue
Defender not marking
You have to decide. And you have to ask your defenders to "mark specific player" rather than "mark specific position" in PI or OI.
Hey FC, thanks for the reply, I asked him to mark a specific player, who is the lone striker. However, the goal keeper of the opposition just kicks the ball quickly to this striker, who is on his own on the halfway line, with the defender up in the oppositions box. Is it anything to do with pressing intensity?
Is you defender in the oppo's box for a set piece?
If yes then this is a special instruction for a set piece, you can either edit set piece instructions to leave that player back or ask other players to stay back.

Thank you Yams. On the same subject, is there a reason all my defenders are prone to sprinting past the opponents attackers instead of tackling them? Like full speed no breaks. Again from set pieces. Cheers.
They could have low marking perhaps, sounds a strange one though.
Personally I use a mix of zonal & man marking. I hate being full on one or the other.
My set up is this, working with a 4-2-3-1 shape.
RCB - Zonal near centre
LCB -Zonal far centre
RB - Mark man (not tall)
LB - Mark man (not tall)
RCM, LCM, LW & RW - Go back
AM & CF - Edge of Area
So all my players defend but I layer the marking/zones.
