what is the general advice/best practice for setting an asking price on a player? should it always be more than an actual value? should I leave asking price field "unspecified" and than negotiate the offers, or should I set that price to smth? If I set it, can I still negotiate later? This is the first time I have to sell a player and am kinda stuck.. don't want to do a boohoo and sell him for peanuts.

a player I am trying to sell is an old defender, 32 yo, his value is 1,6M. Not much, but he is not a bad defender, actually he is good, I am forced to sell him because he requested to be placed on transfer himself, and since he is in the last year of his contract, I am afraid if I don't, he will just leave on a free transfer. I already got an offer for him, for his value: 1,6M. should I reject and raise the price?
32 y/o defender is probably going to start deteriorating soon, You can try for more if you want, but given his age, you probably wont get much more than market value...
+plus if hes in the last year of his contract prob best to get rid of him before clubs can approach him directly, and leave you with nothing...
That depends on many variables. Since we're talking about a 32 year old player the chance to make a good deal out of him is rather small. But you might want to consider his role on your team for the next year, if he is to be a sub then you should consider selling him, specially because his attributes are quickly declining. Now, the conditions for selling him should reflect your transfer budget: personally, when I have a good transfer budget I tend to get more out of the buyer; on the other hand, with a low transfer budget I don't take that many risks. If you want to keep him try to negotiate a new contract right away. If he rejects then don't bother anymore, just try to sell him.

You should try to negotiate first. Don't ask for any percentage on next sale and preferentially try to get the total fee on one stake. If the player's market value is 1.6M then it would be a good start to ask for 2M. It all depends on your financial needs. I'm assuming you're not managing any colossus like R. Madrid, Barcelona, Man Utd... In that case you should sell him for peanuts...
If there is a lot of intrest in him then pit value like 2mil like ruipedro89 said and if there aint so much intrest I would say to put around his value and if there aint intrest then I would say to put him around 1mil and if teams won't come for him then reduce the price.
