Steam vs. Epic for offline FM Play

I often play FM in offline mode since when I travel I don't want to create a mobile hotspot or tap into an unsecure network. And I have been using Steam exclusively since FM came onto that platform. Because of my offline play I always save the game as a local file instead of to the cloud.

Recently I have lost 4 save games (Wrexham, Hull, Atletico Nacional, and AFC Richmond) because I save the game and power down my laptop but there is an error when I log back in and try to load the game. I even double save (so I have the save file and the automatic backup save file), exit FM, and exit Steam (waiting to close down) before shutting down and it still will create a save game which can't be opened.

I am considering purchasing the next game on Epic. Does anyone have experience on that platform? Is it buggy or are there any issues similar to what I described? I am very frustrated, particularly at the loss of my Wrexham save, and am leery of getting 2-3 seasons (or 6 in the case of Wrexham) into a save just to see it not work anymore and would appreciate hearing your recommendations/experiences with Epic.
FM22: 2042 - 1 save - no cloud, local save - not lost a single save since FM16 when I first played the game. Turns to be a user fault, not Steam; not SI; not SEGA.

Good luck with Epic. FM21 was completely mess and was an Epic side situation. Don't understand why SEGA choose them again for FM22; but I bet sales matter.
