Welcome and thank you for following along as I bid to awake Europes top sleeping giants. My aim here as a manager is to take charge of a top European team that hasn't won the Champions League as often or as regularly as expected, and turn them into top contenders each season. We begin this journey by taking charge of Inter Milan, well when I begin, we're half way through the season as publishing this journey was a spur of the moment thing. Anyway, a quick run down of the season so far. Ive opted for a 4-2-3-1 high pressing, tika tika formation, and so far it seems to be going well. The signings ive brought in have been done to bolster the squad to give me chance to close in on my long term targets for the future. I plan on using mostly wonderkids with a couple of experienced players to keep them on track. So far I've brought in Jaun Mata on loan from Man Utd, Jamal Musiala on loan from Byern Munich, who as an 18 year old wonderkid, is giving me a reason to consider signing him permanently having notched up 12 goals and 2 assists in 18 appearences on the left wing. I've also brought in Garath Bale for around £3million, simply because on his day hes quality, and I was lacking serious talent on the right wing.
So far we're half way through the season, having played 19 games we sit in second level on points with Juventus and with a better goal difference of 2. We've also qualified for the first knockout stage of the Champions League so things are going well there. Martinez has been in lethal form all season, netting 18 times and assisting 3 in 23 games, but PSG are snooping, and with him being honnored by their interest it will be interesting to see where his loyaltys lie come the end of the season.
I recieve a swift responce from SEP regarding my loan enqiery. They're keen for things to go ahead and Menino is also keen to come and show us what he has to offer. We tie up loose ends and Gabriel Menino Joins us untill the end of the season on loan in time to face Torino at home in our next match. I have a full squad available, Bale drops out for Hakan as he's slightly fatigued after his latest round of golf and Menino slots in for Darmain at right wing back. Although we're dominating possession, we're not playing well and go 1-0 down after half an hour. I am furious. I berate my team in order to get a responce. They seem fired up, but we concede again 10 minutes later. It's looking like we're going into half time 2-0 down, but in added time on the stroke of the clock, Mata finds Martinez after a beautifull ball over the top who's then 1 on 1 with the keeper. He coolely finishes to make it 2-1, but there's still words to be had. I send my team out with them all recieving a thick ear, and our luck begings to change when on the hour mark, Simone ZaZa halls down Bastoni and gets himself a second yellow card. Surely we can claw back another goal now, but no. Tornio somehow make it 3-1 after 76 minutes to kill the game. We're offically in a rut. There's going to be a big summer clearout of aging talent, I just need to get to the end of the season and still generate some success. Not all is lost, and theres no reason to panic having suffered 4 bad results on the bounce, Every team has a moment at somepoint in the season. We;ve dropped to 4th and 8points behind Juventus but we can still turn things aroundwith 16 games to go, not to mention pushing for the Champions League.
In the week local rivals AC Milan come in with a bid for Gagliardini, which is promtly rejected on two basis'. One I'm not selling to a rival, and the second being I need him as cover untill the end of the season. Juan Mata makes the team of the week, OGC Nice come in with an offer of £16.5million for Hakan, He wants to leave, it's a decent sum so we accept, and move on to our preparations for the Third Round Cup tie against Spezia.
I see this game as an opportunity to massivley rotate the squad. Brozovic is banned so Gagliardini comes in, Menino makes his first start, the rest of the defence is rototated. Rudu comes in for Handanocvic, Dimarco comes in for Musiala and I've promised Dzeko some game time so he makes a rare start. We start the game brightly, Mata puts a free kick over thr bar in the first couple of miniutes before Bale heads home a Gosens cross after quater of an hour. It takes Spezia all of 3 miniutes to respond, and after 20 minutes it's all square. I demand my team focus, this is a game we should be winning easily, even though I'm not too fussed about the cup in general this year. It falls on deaf ears, and Spezia score again to make it 2-1 at the interval. Our look changes when after 75 minutes, Dimarco fires home a Gabriel Menino cross to equalise with the help of VAR. We go to extra time which is something id of liked to have avoided. We really should be winning these games and I'm looking forward to a squad overhall. We continue to probe the Spezia goal when all of a suden Martinez is bundeled to the floor in the Spezia penalty area.. After a quick check with VAR a penalty is awarded, which is promtley burried by Martinez. 3-2, now all we need to do is hold on. We recieve a free kick on the left hand side 2 minutes later on the left hand side. The out going Hakan comes over to take it, and whips in a lovely ball. Skriniar rises above everyone else to meet the ball and make it 4-2! Game over! We needed extra time, but we have our first win in 5. Hopefully we can push on from here, but I'm still less then impressed.
