Since the release of the Main Winter Transfer Update that users who have certain custom skins loaded will encounter a blank screen when attempting to access Versus Mode.
If you go to your in-game preferences and select a default skin, you will be able to access the mode normally.
It may be that the creator of the custom skin your are using may have updated to address this problem, so worth checking our FM22 Skins area if there is an update available.
If there's no update for your skin of choice, it's an easy fix for you to make.
The issue comes from section meta data.xml, in the "<skin folder>\sections" folder.
To fix this, simply delete the old section meta data.xml file.
