Hello my name is Stephen Parr. As a former player I played for St Helens Town and then I got a chance at Crewe Alexandra Football Club. In a FA Cup game round 1 game. My career was ended before it began. I got fouled and I tried to stand up and my legs were shot. The stretcher came on and that was it. Football was over me. So i thought.

A few years had past. I worked on Merseyside Radio, also appeared on football focus a few times. Working as a pundit was ok. While I worked I completed my National A License to be a football manager or coach.

I have been helping a new team in the St helens area. But they didn't play in any leagues. Working as an adviser but helped the youth play. The coach of the team said " you have the skills, you should be a manager". I replied jokingly "if a job came up I would". Little did I know he had contacts in the game and said" I heard that Precot Cables need a manager for the new season". I said my application would get laughed at. Jim helped me with my application and I sent it off. A month later there was an email.

So i have taken the job and I hope to get experience and hope that I might be able to stay and get them to professional status.

I arrived on the 27/06/22 and took the big task. I walked around the stadiium. The attendaces are low. But it is non league football. The Joseph Russell Stadium, is impressive for non league football. After a nice cold walk around meeting the staff at the ground I procedded inside. Tony Zeverona doesn't normally meet the manager but he met me and shook my hand. We had to fire the last manager because we needed to chance. I hope you can help. After at chat and a coffee. He showed me the dressing room. There the players were all getting ready for training. Tony said" This is your new manger please be welcoming to him".

Players looked at me and did the look everyone does. Lets see if he has what it takes.

After I got changed I met Peter Cumiskey. Assistant Manager. We decided to not to chance the captain just yet. However some of my coached believe that Veteran John Shaw would be better than Liam Hollett. We don't have a vice captain yet. So I may use John that way. My team has a few names who have League two experience. Adam hamill. Sam O'Halleron and Dale Jennings. A few of those played for Fleetwood and Tranmere Rovers.

Our first match is Our reserve team. Using 4-2-3-1 wing play formation. I want to see how this works before I change to 2 strikers.

So at this first match Sam is on his own upfront with the support of Dale on the right and Adam on the left.

The first game. As a gesture we invited some schools to the match. It was n't open to the fans yet.

So we made it a family day. Kids wore the yellow and black. I chatted to one kid." Who is your favourite player". Kid replied "Messi". Ok i asked again" Who is your favourite in our team". I thought its Sam.
I was wrong it was Adam hamill.

Kick off time

First half 8 mins in and The reserves scored first.
9th minute we scored but only thanks to an own goal

James Devine got a yellow card. Losing 1-2 to the reserves is bad.

Half time losing to the reserves. I told them" This is a game for us to work on our playing style. However we should be winning this game".

Second half and the game carried on like the last 68th minute freekick. Adam was taking it and he hit it 20 yards right on to the head of Liam Hollett. The captain scored.

2-2. Kicked off after the goal nothing happened then we went into 4 added minutes. John Murphy my striker sub scored a screamer. The ref said offside. The goal was disallowed. The game finished 2-2.

Shadab Bloxham has put his name to my list of players. He is 16 years old and he scored against the first team. He has been touted as a first teamer soon.

next match is Nostrell Miners Welfare in Wakefield

Second friendly against Nostrell Miners Welfare was a bad game. The game finished 1-1 both teams scored a penalty each. So we may be changing the tactic soon. Good news though, we snapped up a experienced defender.

Miles Addison played for Derby County and AFC Bournemouth. For the likes of us at the lower end of the football leagues in England. He was playing for Stafford Rangers but I asked him to join us at Prescot. We taled through the terms and I said that he will be the focal point for the team.

Prescot Cables will be going on a four game trip around Wales.

John Shaw is on peoples lists. We have offered him a new deal. However he hasn't signed it yet.
Jack Goodwin has also caught the eye of teams for loan. He is in my plans.

Now Miles Addison has arrived we know we have a leader in defense. Joe Mwasile has asked to play more, so against Lianrhaeadr he will be on the right wing.

First match against Glan Conwy ended 0-3 win to us. Adam Hamill scored two. Penalty in the 19th minute. Goal in the 85th. Before the 85th goal we scored thanks to O'Halleron in the 55th. After the game We do have a chance to play great football.

A few days have gone and it's the second game. Mwasile is playing from the start. Kyle Sambor is starting instead of O' halleron. Goodwin is behind him and we asked him to prove himself to me.

The draw for the Regional Challenge Cup first Round was about to be annouced. I was in our hotel. Internet was on to find out who we get.

NEWS IN: Prescot Cables will play Worksop Town away.

Just left for the game and I am looking forward to sweeing what my players can do.

Second game over 0-3 at half time with goals from Addison,Sambor, Goodwin.
Second half finished 2-7 Sambor.James Hamill, Luke Pritchard. Great result however,Sambor is out for 11 days with a stubbed toe. And now Goodwin is out with a groin strain

The next friendlys Bangor and Bala. They are professional teams in Wales. We will struggle.

Bangor match is in five days. So training is going to be hard. Another offer for Goodwin has come through but he is not going out on loan. Miles Addison is now club captain and Hollet is happy with him being the captain.

James Hamill is going on loan to Deeping FC till the end of the season. They are paying his whole wages.

Prescot 0-0 Bangor

John Shaw has signed another one year deal. Which is good for our team.

Final preseason game Bala 0-1 Prescot O'Halleron.

So a very good preseason and all ready for Worksop away in the cup.

Matchday. Worsop Town in the cup away. Changed to the team were made 3,200 made the game. We where touted as the underdogs. So I was a bit nervous. Press conference was all about me. "Mr Parr are you looking forward to your first match." I replied "Yes, however the game is about our team and our fans".

"You are not playing O'Halleron, Why is that".

I replied" Sam is on the bench. We are trying Luke Pritchard up front. Using Lukes speed on the ball".

Worksop 0-2 Luke Pritchard 30 minute and 85 minute.

I think that might of worked.

League against Kidsgrove was a different matter. I thought I would stay with my formation and tactics.

We had the game leading till the 80th minute. 0-2. Pritchard and Owens with the goals. Then it happened, all football managers hate it. They came back from there sub striker and he scored 3. After the game Luke made a comment to the press and said" Our manager was furious". I wasn't happy. However its the first game. the next game is Bootle at home.

We are now extending our youth coaching with a new assistant manager for the youth team.Ertugrul Sivrikaya. He is english and has also got turkish blood in him too.

Game 2. League

Bootle at home. The ground only had 786 fans. Most of those where wearing the yellow and black kits with pride. We have changed the formation to 4-2-4.

Luke Pritchard and Kyle Sambor upfront. John Shaw has signed a new contract and he played in central defense with Mile Addison.

Prescot Cables 3-1 Goals from Adam Hamill. 2 goals and Luke Pritchard and for Bootle ben Hodkinson. The captain of Bootle claimed a last ditch goal.

I was happy that we had our first win. John Shaw got man of the match. for a veteran he was heading and tackling everthing that came near him.

With great deep sadness. I have had to make this a short story. Computer problems. I may end making a new one but not sure. Big thank you for your support
