Harry Kewell has resigned from his role as Celtic first-team coach, after 18 months with the Scottish champions and 10 weeks under the returning Brendan Rodgers.

The 45 year old was brought in by Ange Postecoglou, now Tottenham Hotspur manager, after Postecoglou saw similarities with Kewell’s post-playing career and his own journey to the top echelon of football management.

Kewell’s last managerial appointment was in 2021, when he was sacked by National League side Barnet after a winless seven games at the helm. Kewell also had failed stints at Notts County and Oldham Athletic after a promising start to his career with Crawley Town.

Hopefully you might understand when I wish Kewell all the worst in his future endeavours

Socceroos icon Harry Kewell says he would definitely consider a coaching role in Australia and has no regrets over the start to his life in management.

Speaking to former international colleague Mark Schwarzer, Kewell admitted he is still baffled by the decision of Notts County to sack him in November 2018, but reflected on what he learnt about the role of a manager during his stints with the historic club, who he joined from Crawley Town.

Kewell said he has not had any interest from back home about current A-League vacancies, but is ready should the right opportunity arise.

“I read an article (that said) apparently I am not ready yet for the A-League,” Kewell said.

“(It said) I haven’t got (enough) experience, but I have just seen Grant Brebner been given the Melbourne Victory job and some other young coach been given a job (Carl Veart has just been appointed Adelaide United interim coach) …

“So I am surprised at that.

"At the end of the day, if people want you, they’ll make a phone call and get in contact with you. So, people can write all they like but I have had no offers, or interest, so I cannot really give you an answer to that.”

But if there is a phone call?

“Of course, (but) you would have to make sure everything is right, first and foremost.

“If that was right, I think it is a fantastic league, a unique league.

A story with HK as the main character gets a big "BOOOOOOO" from me, but a Feliks story also gets a big "WAHEY!" as well. As long as it gets mentioned that Mark Viduka was the better player, I'll be okay lol. In all seriousness, I'm not surprised in his managerial struggles irl, but credit to him for sticking at it.

Ex-Celtic coach Harry Kewell is reportedly on the shortlist for the vacant Partick Thistle role, according to the Daily Record.

Glasgow’s third team were considered amongst the leading favourites for the Scottish Championship title in pre-season but find themselves in 7th, with just four wins in the first 14 games of the season.

Kewell, who resigned from the Celtic backroom in September, is viewed as an ideal candidate for Partick having worked under Ange Postecoglou during the Bhoys’ historic treble-winning season.

His last role in management was a very short stint at National League side Barnet in 2021 where he went winless in seven matches at the helm.

A number of A-League managers will be sweating over their futures, after two sackings in a matter of hours and at least three other clubs weighing up their options currently.

Adelaide United announced that Carl Veart would not be continuing as first team manager yesterday afternoon at 2pm local time, before Western United announced the sacking of John Aloisi - who had led them to a championship title just 18 months ago - later that evening.

The moves could continue to cause a domino effect across the league as clubs assess their progress roughly halfway through the season.

John’s older brother Ross Aloisi (Brisbane Roar), Mile Sterjovski (Macarthur FC) and Tony Popovic (Melbourne Victory) are all believed to be in precarious positions in their current clubs, also languishing outside the finals spots along with Adelaide and Western United.
