Bransay Sign Benjamin Lamptey from Northampton

Bransay Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of 22-year-old midfielder Benjamin Lamptey on a free transfer from Northampton Town.

The 6'4" central midfielder has penned a contract until June 2044 and will wear the number 16 shirt as we gear up for the 2042/43 League Two season.

Lamptey, a product of Northampton’s academy, made 46 League Two appearances for the Cobblers, showcasing his physicality and versatility in midfield. His career also includes four loan spells, starting with 32 appearances for Fylde in the National League North during the 2038/39 season. In 2039/40, he played 40 times for Crawley Town in the National League, followed by 15 appearances for Bromley in the National League South in 2040/41. Last season, Lamptey featured in 27 games for Gillingham in the National League South, further honing his craft.

Manager Callum Baird expressed his excitement about the signing: “Benjamin’s a proper presence in the middle – tall, strong, and with a real engine. His League Two experience and time in the National League system make him a perfect fit for us. He’s hungry to prove himself, and we can’t wait to see him in action at Forge Road.”

Lamptey joins recent loan arrivals Jesse Watts, Tyler Howard, and Liam Doyle as part of our squad rebuild. With the new season approaching, Lamptey’s addition strengthens our midfield. Welcome to Bransay, Benjamin! Up the Irons!

Gearing up for our second season in League Two. Last year, we defied the odds to finish 14th with 65 points, silencing the relegation shouts. Now, with six new teams in the division and a reshaped squad, we’re ready to kick on. The bookies have us at 33/1 to win the title, 17th favourites.

With Blackburn, Eastleigh, Macclesfield, and Mansfield promoted to League One, and Stanway Pegasus and Scunthorpe relegated, League Two welcomes six fresh sides.

Mersham, 11/10 favourites under Dean Craven, are the team to beat after narrowly missing automatic promotion last season. Their signing of Southampton’s Lennie Smith, who bagged 14 goals in League Two with Eastleigh in 2036/37, adds firepower.

Blackpool, at 12/5, are tipped for a play-off push after adding 11 signings, including keeper Reda Nagy and centre-backs Rian Varian and John Byrne.

Relegated Cambridge United (13/5) and Burton Albion (4/1) bring League One pedigree, with Cambridge adding Barnsley’s Ed Connor and Burton banking on Niall Lee’s performances. Swansea (15/2), stung by last season’s collapse, have bolstered with Harry Morrell, Samson Tahir, and Charlton Gilhespy. Grimsby (9/1) and Crewe (11/1) round out the top seven, with Crewe’s Darren Reynolds and Scott Bowditch looking dangerous.

Newly promoted Welling United (13/1) and Walsall (33/1) will rely on Kenniel Lodge and new faces like Neil Franklin, respectively. The chasing pack is stacked. Cheltenham (13/1), Bristol Rovers (14/1), Shrewsbury (15/1), QPR (18/1), Northampton (18/1), MK Dons (20/1), FC United (25/1), and Carlisle (25/1) all have quality.

Bolton (33/1), Hartlepool (50/1), Swindon (50/1), Doncaster (50/1), Yeovil (300/1), and Dorking (300/1) face uphill battles. Doncaster’s Callum and Stefan Parry, with 25 goals last season, could keep them safe, but Yeovil and Dorking are relegation favourites.

We’ve kept the core of last season’s squad, with 18 players returning, but the departures of Bryan Mimnaugh, Euan Spracklen, Jacob Crosby, and others hurt. To rebuild, we’ve added four new faces and brought back a star. Jesse Watts and Tyler Howard join on loan to shore up our centre-back spots, replacing Spracklen and Emanuel José. Benjamin Lamptey, a 6’4” midfielder from Northampton, arrives on a free with 46 League Two games and four loan spells under his belt. Liam Doyle, an 18-year-old, 6’2” striker from Bristol Rovers, joins on loan with two assists in eight League Two games last season. Juan Paredes, our record sale to Aston Villa, returns on loan, his 14 goals in 28 games for Royal Antwerp last season making him a key man.

In goal, Umar Nasiru remains our number one, with academy product Ger Brookes stepping up as backup after a solid loan at Clitheroe (6 clean sheets in 29 games).

At right-back, Paul Hulme and Sam Perrott hold firm, though Perrott’s discipline needs work. Lewis Summerfield and Macsen Broadley stay at left-back, both reliable but needing more attacking output. Danny Gayle and Josh Chapman are backup centre-backs, but Watts and Howard should start.

On the right wing, Deuve Grey will battle Andy Marshall, who impressed on loan at Sutton United (3 goals, 9 assists in 39 games). Liam Edwards and Rich Marshall keep the left wing strong. In midfield, Federico Delli Carri and Peter Connolly are our engine, but Mark Rothwell and Lamptey could shake things up.

Up top, Dion Coverley and Hugh Clarvis back up Paredes and Doyle, giving us firepower.

Bransay Athletic Announce Academy Departures and New Arrivals

Bransay Athletic can confirm the permanent transfer of 17-year-old academy striker Alex Ellis to Championship side Wycombe Wanderers for a fee in the region of £100,000, with a sell-on clause included.

Ellis, who joined from Ellington in 2041 and starred for our Under-18s last season, departs with our best wishes as he steps up to the second tier. His potential marks another success for our Blackstone Way academy.

Additionally, centre-back Alex Garbutt and striker Muhamed Salkic have joined National League side Gateshead on season-long loans, while midfielder Ian Moore has moved to Bromley in the National League on a season-long loan. These moves will provide valuable first-team experience for our young talents, and we look forward to tracking their progress.

We are also excited to welcome a new cohort to our academy: Gavin Robins (Rock Rovers), James Evans (Whitchurch Alport), Nándor Oross (Wadhurst United), Callum Baker (Goldsborough), Michael Campbell (Waldridge Park), Tony Williams (Redbridge), Muhammad Khan (i2i Academy), Ivan Novoselec (Segesta), Roberto López (Panamá City), and Manny Doyle (Gloucester City). These promising youngsters will bolster our youth setup as we continue to build the future of Bransay Athletic.

With the 2042/43 League Two season underway, these moves reflect our commitment to developing talent and competing at the highest level. Up the Irons!

Bransay Crash Out of EFL Cup with Defeat to Tranmere

Bransay Athletic suffered a second consecutive first-round exit from the EFL Cup, falling 2-1 to League One side Tranmere Rovers at Tranmere Stadium on Tuesday night.

Despite a late fightback, the League Two outfit couldn’t overturn a two-goal deficit, as Guy Thurgood’s Tranmere secured a second-round tie against Everton at Bramley-Moore Dock later this month.

Tranmere, buoyed by a vocal home crowd, took the lead in first-half stoppage time. Simon Peters surged down the right and whipped a low cross into the box, where Daire Coustrain pounced, rifling a first-time shot past Umar Nasiru into the top corner to send the hosts into the break 1-0 up.

Bransay, who lost by the same scoreline to Derby in last season’s first round, struggled to find rhythm against their higher-division opponents. Tranmere doubled their lead in the 84th minute when Ghaith Jaballah’s pinpoint through ball split the Irons’ defence, allowing Luke Ryan to slot calmly into the bottom left corner.

The visitors pulled one back two minutes later through Hugh Clarvis, who latched onto Benjamin Lamptey’s clever flicked header from a long throw and volleyed into the roof of the net. Despite a frantic finish, Bransay couldn’t find an equaliser, and Tranmere held firm.

Manager Callum Baird was pragmatic post-match: “We gave a good account of ourselves against a strong League One side, but we switched off at key moments. The lads showed heart to fight back, but we need to be sharper. Our focus now is the league and pushing for those play-offs.”

Tranmere’s victory sets up an enticing Merseyside clash with Premier League Everton, while Bransay turn their attention to their next League Two fixture, aiming to build on their 14th-place finish last season. For the Irons, the cup dream ends early again, but the Forge Road faithful will hope for a stronger showing in the FA Cup.

Bransay Secure Loan Signing of Martyn Tomlinson

Bransay Athletic are delighted to announce the season-long loan signing of 24-year-old Welsh centre-back Martyn Tomlinson from Burton Albion.

The 6'6" defender, who will wear the number 24 shirt, strengthens our backline as we push on in the 2042/43 League Two season.

Tomlinson began his career in the Wolves academy before joining Burton Albion in the Championship in 2038. That season, he gained valuable experience on loan at National League side Solihull Moors, making 44 appearances. Following Burton’s relegation to League One in 2039, Tomlinson became a mainstay in their defence, amassing 122 League One appearances over three seasons. This term, after Burton’s drop to League Two, he has already featured in three matches, showcasing his aerial dominance and composure.

Manager Callum Baird was thrilled with the acquisition: “Martyn’s a towering presence with proven quality at a higher level. His experience in League One and early League Two outings this season make him a fantastic addition. He’ll bring leadership and solidity to our defence as we chase our ambitions.”

Tomlinson joins recent signings Jesse Watts, Tyler Howard, Liam Doyle, and Benjamin Lamptey, as well as the loan return of Juan Paredes, as part of our squad rebuild. Welcome to Bransay, Martyn!

Bransay Athletic Surge to Second with Five-Game Winning Streak

Bransay Athletic have roared into the 2042/43 League Two season, clinching five consecutive league victories and conceding just four goals in their opening six matches, propelling them to second place with 15 points.

After a rocky start, the Irons have turned Forge Road into a fortress and shown their mettle on the road, sitting just one point behind unbeaten leaders Mersham on16 points. With a blend of new signings and academy grit, manager Callum Baird’s side are defying their pre-season odds and igniting promotion dreams among the island faithful.

The campaign began with a 3-1 defeat at Shrewsbury Town’s Croud Meadow on 2 August, a wake-up call for a squad integrating loan signings Jesse Watts, Tyler Howard, Liam Doyle, Martyn Tomlinson, and the returning Juan Paredes. A 2-1 loss to League One Tranmere Rovers in the EFL Cup first round followed, but Bransay bounced back emphatically on 9 August with a 4-0 thrashing of relegation favourites Dorking Wanderers at Forge Road. Wingers Liam Edwards and Andy Marshall each bagged braces, with Edwards rifling a 25-yard screamer and heading in a corner, while Marshall slotted home from close range and curled in a beauty from the edge of the box.

A week later, on 16 August, Bransay dismantled newly promoted Walsall 3-0 at Bescot Stadium. Dion Coverley struck twice, first volleying into the top corner and then nodding in a free-kick, while Jesse Watts powered home a header from a corner to mark his first goal for the club. Back at Forge Road on 23 August, Hugh Clarvis led the charge in a 4-1 rout of Doncaster Rovers, smashing in a low drive and tapping in a rebound, with Edwards curling in a 20-yard effort and Federico Delli Carri converting a penalty after a foul in the box.

August ended with a 2-0 win over Carlisle United at Forge Road on 30 August, where goalkeeper Umar Nasiru secured his third clean sheet in four games. Juan Paredes, on loan from Aston Villa, opened his account with a clinical finish from 12 yards, and Delli Carri slotted home another penalty to seal the points. Bransay also kicked off their EFL Trophy campaign on 3 September with a rotated squad defeating Bolton Wanderers 2-1, thanks to a Coverley brace – a thumping header and a low drive from the edge of the area.

Today, Bransay made it five league wins on the spin with a 2-0 victory at Swindon Town’s County Ground, where Nasiru claimed his fourth clean sheet in five league games. New loan signing Martyn Tomlinson marked his arrival from Burton Albion with a towering header from a corner, and Coverley sealed the win with a cool finish after a darting run through the defence.

The run has transformed Bransay from mid-table hopefuls to genuine early season promotion contenders, sitting second with a +12 goal difference, one point behind Mersham’s five wins and one draw. Coverley, Edwards, and contributions from Marshall, Paredes, Delli Carri, and Tomlinson have shown the squad’s depth, while Watts and Howard have solidified a backline that’s conceded just once in 540 minutes of league play.

Post-match, manager Callum Baird was measured but proud when asked about the winning streak: “Five wins, four clean sheets – it’s a cracking start, but I’m not getting carried away. This group’s got hunger, and the new lads have slotted in brilliantly. Martyn [Tomlinson] and Jesse [Watts] give us steel, and Dion [Coverley] is proving a nightmare for defenders again. The fans are our 12th man, but we’ve got to keep our feet on the ground. This league’s a marathon, and we’re just at the start.”

With a trip to Mersham next, Bransay face a chance to extend their streak against a title favourite. If this form holds, the play-offs – or more – are within reach.

August and September brought six wins, two losses, and a draw across nine league games, plus a cup defeat and an EFL Trophy victory. With 19 points from nine matches, we sit second, three points behind Mersham and in the automatic promotion spots. Conceding just eleven goals in the league, thanks to Umar Nasiru’s heroics and our new defensive recruits, we’re proving the bookmakers wrong.

We opened the season on 2 August with a 3-1 loss at Shrewsbury Town’s Croud Meadow. Liam Driscoll struck just 30 seconds in, volleying in Baden Sheminant’s cross. Juan Paredes equalised in the 34th minute, tapping in Peter Connolly’s low pass, but Sheminant headed in a corner in the 40th minute, and Jordan Halford sealed it in the 62nd minute, rifling in Sheminant’s cut-back. An early wake-up call.

The EFL Cup first round on 5 August saw us fall 2-1 to League One Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park. Daire Coustrain scored in first-half stoppage time, curling in Simon Peters’ through ball. Luke Ryan doubled Tranmere’s lead in the 84th minute, slotting in Ghaith Jaballah’s pass. Hugh Clarvis pulled one back in the 86th minute, nodding in Benjamin Lamptey’s long throw, but it wasn’t enough.

We roared back on 9 August with a 4-0 demolition of Dorking Wanderers at Forge Road. Andy Marshall opened the scoring in the 11th minute, smashing in Paul Hulme’s cut-back. Liam Edwards struck twice, first in the 20th minute with a 20-yard curler off Marshall’s pass, then in the 31st minute, volleying in Federico Delli Carri’s deep cross. Marshall sealed it in the 63rd minute, tapping in Delli Carri’s low pass.

On 16 August, we thumped Walsall 3-0 at Bescot Stadium. Dion Coverley scored in the 5th minute, pouncing on a loose ball after a scramble, and added a second in the 17th minute, heading in Paredes’ cross. Jesse Watts nodded in Andy Marshall’s corner in the 55th minute for his first Bransay goal.

On 23 August, we crushed Doncaster Rovers 4-1 at Forge Road. Callum Parry put Doncaster ahead in the 29th minute, slotting in Ivar Olsen’s pass, but Edwards equalised in the 41st minute, curling in Marshall’s lay-off. Clarvis struck in the 54th minute, volleying in Coverley’s cross, followed by Delli Carri’s penalty in the 78th minute after a foul. Clarvis sealed it in the 82nd minute, tapping in Connolly’s through ball.

We ended August on 30 August with a 2-0 win over Carlisle United at Forge Road. Paredes scored in the 63rd minute, rifling in Connolly’s cut-back, and Delli Carri converted a penalty in the 70th minute after a handball. Nasiru’s third clean sheet in four games showed our defensive steel.

The EFL Trophy Group A campaign began on 2 September with a 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers at Bolton Community Stadium. Coverley opened the scoring in the 2nd minute, heading in Lamptey’s long throw. Rio Jones equalised in the 63rd minute, tapping in Matt Sutton’s low cross, but Coverley won it with an 82nd-minute penalty after a foul on Paredes.

On 6 September, we beat Swindon Town 2-0 at the County Ground. Martyn Tomlinson marked his debut with a 60th-minute header from Liam Doyle’s corner, and Coverley sealed it in the 82nd minute, slotting in after a mazy run. Nasiru’s fourth clean sheet in five league games kept us flying.

Mersham halted our streak on 13 September with a 4-1 rout at Mersham Stadium. Lennie Smith struck in the 2nd minute, volleying in Barry Taylor’s cross. Mark Waters missed a penalty in the 11th minute, but Tomlinson scored an own goal in the 23rd minute, heading in a corner. Taylor made it 3-0 in first-half stoppage time, curling in Adie Wilson’s pass. Doyle pulled one back in the 46th minute, nodding in Connolly’s free-kick, but Sam Nangle sealed it in the 77th minute, tapping in Taylor’s cut-back.

We bounced back with a 2-2 draw against Cambridge United at Forge Road on 20 September. Paredes opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, slotting in Andy Marshall’s low cross. Clarvis doubled our lead in the 52nd minute, heading in Coverley’s delivery. Robert Walsh pulled one back in the 58th minute with a 25-yard screamer, and Morgan Watson equalised from a 68th-minute penalty after a foul by Tyler Howard.

We ended September with a 2-1 win at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium on 27 September. Mark Rothwell scored a 17th-minute penalty after a handball, and Coverley made it 2-0 in the 43rd minute, rifling in Liam Edwards’ through ball. Casey Hudson pulled one back in the 81st minute, heading in Amir Goudarzi’s cross, but we held firm.

We’re second with 19 points from nine games – six wins, one draw, two losses and just eleven goals conceded. Mersham lead with 22 points, followed by us and then MK Dons (17) in the promotion spots.

Bristol Rovers and Grimsby (both 16), Dorking (15), and Hartlepool (14) occupy the play-off places.

Cambridge, Burton, Cheltenham, Bolton, Blackpool, and Crewe (all 13) are in the chasing pack, while Swansea (5) and Walsall (2) prop up the table.

Bransay Exit EFL Trophy with Heavy Defeat to Burton

Bransay Athletic crashed out of the EFL Trophy group stage, finishing bottom of Group A with a solitary 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers, after a 7-1 thrashing by Burton Albion at Forge Road on Tuesday night.

Manager Callum Baird fielded a youth-heavy side, handing debuts to four academy players in what appeared to be a protest against the competition’s format, which he has previously criticised.

Burton ran riot, with Liam Humphreys scoring in the 1st minute, slotting in a low drive, and adding a penalty in first-half stoppage time. James Thomas-Davis made it 2-0 in the 31st minute, heading in a corner. Federico Delli Carri pulled one back for Bransay with a 49th-minute penalty after a handball, but Alex Cotton struck twice in quick succession, volleying in the 50th minute and tapping in the 52nd. Casey Hudson completed the rout with goals in the 71st minute, a curled effort, and the 77th minute, a close-range finish.

Bransay’s earlier 2-1 loss to Manchester City Under-21s in October, combined with their Bolton win, left them with three points, level with Bolton but behind Burton and group winners Man City U21s.

Baird’s decision to field debutants Gavin Robins, Callam Hinnigan, Nándor Oross and Callum Baker underscored his frustration with the competition’s inclusion of academy sides.

Post-match, Baird reiterated his stance: “I’m proud of our debutants – Gavin, Callam, Nándor, and Callum showed real heart. But this competition, with its midweek fixtures and development squads, is a hindrance to our league focus. We’re glad to be out and can now concentrate on the league.”

Across 16 games, we’ve notched five wins, four draws, and seven losses, sitting 6th with 34 points from 21 games. With new signings like Martyn Tomlinson and Liam Doyle settling in, we’re proving we belong in this division.

We started October with a 3-1 loss to Hartlepool United at Forge Road on 4 October. Dion Coverley opened the scoring in the 4th minute, slotting in Juan Paredes’ low cross, but Connor Vaughan equalised in the 14th minute with a curling 20-yard strike. Ifeanyi Harrison put Hartlepool ahead in the 23rd minute, heading in a corner, and Tyler Howard’s own goal in the 55th minute, deflecting a cross into his own net, sealed our fate.

The EFL Trophy Group A clash against Manchester City Under-21s on 7 October ended in a 2-1 defeat at Forge Road. Macsen Broadley gave us the lead in the 42nd minute, nodding in Rich Marshall’s pinpoint cross, but Luigi Pace levelled in the 60th minute, tapping in Petr Houstecky’s pass. Terry Jones won it with a 67th-minute penalty after a foul by Paul Hulme.

On 11 October, we drew 2-2 with Cheltenham Town at Forge Road. Dominic Trego scored a 32nd-minute penalty for Cheltenham, but Paredes equalised a minute later, volleying in Andy Marshall’s deep cross. Federico Delli Carri put us ahead with a 45th-minute penalty after a handball, only for Louis Pritchard to snatch a 93rd-minute equaliser, heading in Adam Cooper’s delivery.

We fell 2-1 at Bolton Wanderers’ Community Stadium on 18 October. Danny Grady opened the scoring in the 38th minute, rifling in Eoin James’ cut-back. Liam Edwards levelled in the 58th minute, slotting in Liam Doyle’s through ball, but Hugo Hamre won it in the 73rd minute, tapping in Grady’s low cross.

A 0-0 draw at Welling United’s Park View Road on 22 October saw Umar Nasiru keep a clean sheet, thwarting Kenniel Lodge’s late chance.

On 25 October, we drew 1-1 with Northampton Town at Forge Road. Doyle scored in the 23rd minute, heading in Martyn Tomlinson’s long throw, but Richie Edwards equalised in the 57th minute, curling in Hugh McDonagh’s pass.

October ended with a 4-1 loss to Queens Park Rangers at Forge Road on 29 October. Shannon Fernandez struck in the 19th minute, latching onto a long punt from goalkeeper Kamali Muhammad. Peter Connolly equalised in the 43rd minute, volleying in Coverley’s cross, but Tarek Gouda put QPR ahead in the 52nd minute, heading in Fatih Ozkaya’s cross. Fernandez struck again in the 73rd minute, tapping in Ozkaya’s cut-back, and Gouda sealed it in the 79th minute, rifling in Ozkaya’s through ball.

November began with a 4-1 FA Cup First Round win over Hartlepool United at Victoria Park on 1 November. Mark Rothwell scored a 2nd-minute penalty after a foul, but Connor Vaughan levelled in the 18th minute with a low drive. Coverley restored our lead in the 40th minute, heading in Deuve Grey’s cross, and Rich Marshall struck twice late, first curling in Broadley’s pass in the 84th minute and then tapping in Delli Carri’s cut-back in the 91st minute.

On 5 November, we suffered a 7-3 thrashing at MK Dons’ Stadium MK. Charlie Solly missed a penalty in the 2nd minute, but Lee Price scored the rebound. Paul Scott struck in the 22nd minute, heading in Rees Cuggy’s cross, and Solly made it 3-0 in the 26th minute, tapping in Cuggy’s pass. Coverley pulled one back in the 29th minute, slotting in Grey’s low cross, but Scott scored again in the 30th minute, nodding in Solly’s delivery. Coverley struck in the 35th minute, rifling in Grey’s through ball, only for Solly to head in Steve George’s cross in the 43rd minute. Cuggy made it 6-2 in the 46th minute, curling in George’s pass, and Frazer Saxby added a seventh in the 82nd minute. Tomlinson scored a consolation in the 90th minute, heading in a corner.

We rebounded with a 3-0 win over FC United of Manchester at Forge Road on 8 November. Delli Carri opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, slotting in Connolly’s through ball. Clarvis doubled the lead in the 72nd minute, nodding in Rothwell’s cross, and Jesse Watts sealed it in the 94th minute, heading in Clarvis’ corner.

The EFL Trophy campaign ended on 11 November with a 7-1 loss to Burton Albion at Forge Road, where I fielded a youth side in protest at the competition’s format. Liam Humphreys scored in the 1st minute, tapping in Kieran Smith’s cross, and our debutant Nándor Oross saw red in the 7th minute for a reckless tackle. James Thomas-Davis made it 2-0 in the 31st minute, heading in Alex Cotton’s delivery. Humphreys added a penalty in stoppage time, Delli Carri replied with a 49th-minute penalty, but Cotton struck twice (50th and 52nd minutes, via Humphreys and James Parry assists), and Casey Hudson scored in the 71st and 77th minutes, both from cut-backs. I’m proud of debutants Robins, Hinnigan, Oross and Baker, but I’m glad to be done with the Trophy.

On 15 November, we beat Grimsby Town 3-1 at Forge Road. Paredes opened the scoring in the 11th minute, slotting in Hulme’s low cross. JJ Andrews equalised in the 25th minute, tapping in Jack Thompson’s pass. Tomlinson restored our lead in the 51st minute, heading in Andy Marshall’s corner, and Paredes sealed it in the 93rd minute, rifling in Tomlinson’s through ball.

We won 4-2 at Swansea City’s Liberty Stadium on 19 November. Josh Chapman scored an own goal for Swansea in the 24th minute, deflecting a cross into his net. Connolly equalised in the 30th minute, nodding in Broadley’s cross. Swansea’s Chris Warner saw red in the 31st minute for a high tackle. Doyle put us ahead in the 40th minute, tapping in a loose ball, Paredes struck in the 77th minute, volleying in Grey’s cross, and Rothwell scored an 83rd-minute penalty. Niall Adkins pulled one back for Swansea in the 94th minute.

On 22 November, we lost 2-1 at Crewe Alexandra’s Gresty Road. Ricardo Fletcher scored in the 34th minute, heading in Darren Reynolds’ cross. Darren Jones made it 2-0 in the 66th minute, curling in Stephen Hunt’s pass. Rothwell pulled one back in the 85th minute, slotting in a loose ball.

We closed November with a 3-0 win over Yeovil Town at Forge Road on 26 November. Lewis Summerfield scored in the 18th minute, heading in Doyle’s corner. Andy Marshall struck in the 65th minute, curling in Delli Carri’s pass, and Coverley sealed it in the 80th minute, tapping in Broadley’s low cross.

A 0-0 draw at Woking’s Sanju Akhtar Park in the FA Cup Second Round on 29 November kept us in the hat.

We’re 6th with 34 points from 21 games, level with Bristol Rovers in the play-off spots, but promotion isn’t the goal we set out with. Mersham (53 points), MK Dons (40), and Burton (36) lead the promotion race, with Shrewsbury and Crewe (both 35) in the play-offs. Yeovil (16) and Walsall (9) are in the relegation zone.

Bransay Draw West Brom in FA Cup Third Round

Bransay Athletic have secured a mouthwatering FA Cup Third Round clash against Championship high-flyers West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on 3 January 2043, following a commanding 4-0 victory over League One relegation candidates Woking at Forge Road tonight.

The second-round replay, watched by a crowd of over 1,600, saw the Irons overpower Ryan Keenan’s side to keep their cup dreams alive and set up a daunting trip to face Conor Sellars’ West Brom, who sit eighth in the Championship, just one point off the play-offs.

After a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Woking’s Sanju Akhtar Park on Saturday, Bransay wasted no time in the replay. Hugh Clarvis opened the scoring in the 4th minute, latching onto Macsen Broadley’s pinpoint cross to volley into the top corner. The Irons doubled their lead in the 18th minute when Josh Chapman rose highest to head in a corner, sending the Forge Road faithful into a frenzy. Mark Rothwell made it 3-0 in the 39th minute, slotting in a low drive after Andy Marshall’s clever through ball. Deuve Grey sealed the rout in the 80th minute, curling a 20-yard beauty into the top corner from Broadley’s lay-off, ensuring Bransay’s place in the third round.

The draw has handed Bransay a tough but exciting challenge against West Brom, who are chasing promotion to the Premier League.

Manager Callum Baird was thrilled with the performance and undaunted by the upcoming test: “The lads were clinical tonight – Hugh, Josh, Mark and Deuve showed what we’re about. West Brom’s a massive tie, but we’ll go to The Hawthorns with no fear. Our fans deserve these big nights, and we’ll give it everything.”

Bransay join fellow League Two sides QPR, Mersham, Crewe, Blackpool, Bolton, Swansea, Shrewsbury, and Grimsby in the third round, with Mersham and Crewe guaranteed a fourth-round spot as they face each other. National League outfits Solihull Moors, Accrington, and Gloucester City also remain in the competition, adding to the cup’s magic.

After last season’s memorable FA Cup run ended against Manchester City, Bransay are eager to make more history.

Bransay Athletic Reach FA Cup Fourth Round in Penalty Win

Bransay Athletic secured a historic place in the FA Cup Fourth Round with a thrilling 7-6 penalty shootout victory over Championship side West Bromwich Albion in their third-round replay at Forge Road on Tuesday night, in front of 2,500 fervent fans.

The League Two side, who drew 2-2 at The Hawthorns on 3 January, overcame their higher-division opponents thanks to goalkeeper Umar Nasiru’s heroics, setting up a winnable fourth-round tie against League One strugglers Tranmere Rovers at home on 24 January.

The first tie at The Hawthorns saw Bransay take an early lead in the 1st minute when Liam Doyle latched onto Andy Marshall’s cut-back to slot home. Dion Coverley doubled the lead in the 54th minute, heading in Marshall’s near-post cross. West Brom fought back, with Christoffer Andersson pulling one back in the 57th minute, tapping in after Marcus Vinícius’ shot hit the post. Three minutes later, Jordan Bonnell equalised from a penalty, sending Nasiru the wrong way after a foul, forcing the replay.

In the replay, West Brom struck first in the 46th minute as Marcus Vinícius controlled Camilo Castro’s dinked pass on his chest before rifling a shot into the near post. Bransay equalised in the 75th minute when Liam Doyle pounced on Rich Marshall’s nodded-down long ball from Sam Perrott, racing into the box and firing into the far corner. With no further goals, the tie went to penalties.

The shootout was a nail-biter. West Brom’s Jordan Bonnell and Bransay’s Deuve Grey missed in the initial five kicks, sending it to sudden death. Sam Perrott’s miss put Bransay on the brink, but Nasiru stood tall, denying Camilo Castro’s potential match-winner with a diving save. Nasiru then stepped up, coolly slotting his penalty into the bottom right to make it 7-6. When Christoffer Andersson’s spot-kick was saved by Nasiru in the same corner, Forge Road erupted as Bransay clinched a famous victory.

Manager Callum Baird hailed his side’s resilience: “Umar was immense – a hero in the shootout. The lads showed unbelievable character to match a Championship side over two games. Tranmere’s next, and with our fans behind us, we’re dreaming of another upset.”

The win marks Bransay’s first fourth-round appearance since 2033, which ended against Liverpool in the Fifth Round. Facing Guy Thurgood’s Tranmere, who are battling relegation in League One, Bransay have a golden opportunity, especially with giants like Manchester City, West Ham, and Manchester United already out, falling to Southampton, Leeds, and Wrexham respectively.

Bransay Athletic Confirm Andy Marshall’s Transfer to Bristol City

Bransay Athletic can confirm that academy product Andy Marshall has joined Championship side Bristol City for a fee of £150,000, potentially rising to £300,000 with performance-related clauses.

The 21-year-old winger, whose contract was set to expire in six months, declined to renew with the club, prompting the move. In a boost for the Irons, Bristol City have agreed to loan Marshall back to Bransay until the end of the 2042/43 League Two season.

Marshall, a star of our Blackstone Way academy, shone on loan at Sutton United in the National League South last season, scoring 3 goals and providing 9 assists in 39 appearances. This term, he has been pivotal for Bransay, contributing 3 goals and 6 assists in 21 games, including braces in our 4-0 win over Dorking Wanderers and key assists in our FA Cup run. His flair and work rate will continue to light up Forge Road until May.

In other news, Cheltenham Town have recalled 21-year-old centre-back Tyler Howard from his season-long loan with us. Howard, who made 22 appearances for the Irons, returns to his parent club after manager Nico Cutbush deemed him essential for their League Two campaign. We thank Tyler for his contributions, including his vital goal against Walsall, and wish him well.

Manager Callum Baird commented: “Andy’s move to Bristol City is a testament to our academy’s quality and having him back on loan is massive for us. Tyler’s been solid, and we’re gutted to lose him, but we’ve got Martyn Tomlinson and Jesse Watts to hold the fort. Our focus remains on competing in League Two and the FA Cup.”

Bransay Confirm Macsen Broadley Transfer to Oldham

Bransay Athletic can confirm that left-back Macsen Broadley has joined National League side Oldham Athletic for a fee of £35,000. The 24-year-old departs after a two-year spell with the Irons, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and versatility.

Broadley joined Bransay in 2041 from Torquay United, where he had spent six years. During his time at Forge Road, he made 48 League Two appearances, scoring one goal and providing four assists. His tireless performances, including key contributions in our 4-0 win over Dorking Wanderers and the FA Cup run, endeared him to the Forge Road faithful.

Manager Callum Baird praised Broadley’s impact: “Macsen’s been a fantastic servant to this club, giving everything in every game. He’s earned this move to Oldham, and we wish him all the best. We’re confident in our squad’s depth as we push on in League Two and the FA Cup.”

The transfer follows a busy window, with Andy Marshall’s move to Bristol City and Tyler Howard’s recall by Cheltenham. With Lewis Summerfield stepping up at left-back and our defensive core of Martyn Tomlinson and Jesse Watts, we remain focused on our League Two campaign and the upcoming FA Cup Fourth Round clash against Tranmere Rovers. Thank you, Macsen.

Bransay Confirm Signing of Lorcan O’Donnell from Grimsby

Bransay Athletic are thrilled to announce the signing of 26-year-old Irish centre-back Lorcan O’Donnell from League Two side Grimsby Town.

The experienced defender, who will wear the number 21 shirt, joins the Irons to strengthen our backline as we navigate a challenging 2042/43 season.

O’Donnell began his career at Forest Green Rovers, cutting his teeth with loan spells at Kingstonian, Runcorn Linnets, and King’s Lynn Town before establishing himself as a regular in the National League during the 2038/39 season. Since moving to Grimsby Town in 2040, he has been a mainstay, amassing 127 League Two appearances and earning a reputation for his composure and aerial prowess.

Manager Callum Baird was delighted with the acquisition: “Lorcan’s a proven performer at this level, and his experience will be invaluable. He’s a leader who’ll slot right into our defensive setup alongside Martyn Tomlinson and Jesse Watts. We’re excited to see him.”

O’Donnell’s arrival follows the departure of Macsen Broadley and the recall of Tyler Howard, reinforcing our squad. Welcome to Bransay, Lorcan!

Bransay Stun Tranmere with 6-0 Rout to Reach Fifth Round

Bransay Athletic delivered a sensational 6-0 victory over League One side Tranmere Rovers in the FA Cup Fourth Round at Forge Road, securing a historic place in the Fifth Round.

The League Two outfit, currently 11th with 46 points after 31 games, dismantled Guy Thurgood’s Tranmere, who sit 18th in League One with 38 points from 33 matches, just four points above the relegation zone. The Irons’ emphatic performance sets up a blockbuster Fifth Round tie against Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur at the 62,850-capacity Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 25 February.

Bransay wasted no time asserting dominance in front of a raucous Forge Road crowd. In the 7th minute, Federico Delli Carri opened the scoring, calmly slotting a penalty into the top left corner after a handball in the box. Liam Doyle doubled the lead in the 11th minute, looping a magnificent header into the far corner from Lewis Summerfield’s curled cross to the back post. Deuve Grey took centre stage in the 22nd minute, exchanging a slick one-two with Delli Carri before firing into the bottom left corner. Grey struck again in the 31st minute, latching onto Doyle’s precise through ball and seeing his slightly deflected effort roll into the bottom left.

The winger completed his hat-trick in the 57th minute, heading in another pinpoint Summerfield cross from the left. Delli Carri sealed the rout in the 65th minute, converting a second penalty after a foul on Juan Paredes, sending Tranmere’s keeper the wrong way.

Manager Callum Baird was jubilant post-match: “The lads were unbelievable – clinical, relentless, and full of heart. Deuve’s hat-trick, Liam’s header, Federico’s composure – it’s what we’re capable of. Tottenham’s a massive challenge, but we’ll go there with no fear and give our fans a day to remember.”

Bransay’s reward is a daunting trip to face Sérgio Conceição’s Tottenham, who sit third in the Premier League behind Newcastle and West Ham. Spurs, fresh off victories over Bournemouth and Wrexham in the FA Cup, face Chelsea in the EFL Cup Final just three days before hosting Bransay, potentially offering the Irons a chance to capitalise on fatigue.
