Actually I've found that with a smaller starting database the regens are much less overpowered. With just a couple countries playable I was into 2020 with only a few players over 190 in the game. Although that really cuts back on playable teams it's one way to avoid the excessive amazing regen problem.
I'm just saying that to state its not realistic. With the help of FMRTE I mass edit all the regens to CA10 PA20 in every year so I won't meet them in the matches :)
# mizie : Actually I hate regens. I don't sign any, so my game ends after 5-6 seasons maximum.
And beside the mentioned wrong attributes I really feel its not realistic to have a super-talent like Messi in every year. But if you see the fresh regens there are 1-2 with 190 PA in EVERY YEAR...LOL.

In real life you should wait a player like him for 5-10 years...

But not every players meet there full potential.
See man city who buy everybody and everything, some good player stuffed away in the B-team for years, seeing there potential drifting away.
uh... I think this has turned into more of a talk on the mass hating of regens rather than if there is an ending to the game...

Well it too deserves a topic, doesn't it? :D

no you don't. there are currently about 6 next kaka's, 5 next messi's and all the rest in the world right now. potential is one thing, living up to it is another. abdel taarabt anyone? bebe currently at man utd, rave reviews done nothing noteable. anderson is another man utd who went to man utd as the next brazillian hot thing after excelling in the u21's. he's never settled into any particular role.

i've had players which my coaching team have all rated 5stars for potential and sold them because they spent most their time injured so never progressed. its true with real life, great players come and go all the time, only a few last it out.
when the FM 08 came out I played one game from 2007 'til 2030, the only reason I haven't kept on playing is cuz the FM 2009 would come out soon :-D

I know a kid in my town who's been playing a game for 50+ seasons, I mean I've seen it by myself so you can't tell me that it's impossible!

after a break of a couple of months I continued to play my first FM11 game, now I'm in january 2023, and it's still very interesting (WITHOUT FM GENIUS & FMRTE of course!!!) ;)

You just pointed the difference between the game and real life. Yes there are players right now touted as the next Messi but they aren't that good. All the 'next Messi' thing is about marketing and selling the players. As we know there aren't any players like Messi right now (maybe C.Ronaldo) but the game gives us 2-3 Messi like player every year.

there's not a single player who starts out comparable to messi or ronaldo ever! they're utterly crap at the start and most take a good 3-4 seasons of development before they're even good enough to make a sub's bench of a good team. the mental stats suck hard. the best you can hope for are ones with good technicals @ set pieces. and how the develop is completely dependent on your coaching setup and training schedules as well as game time. amazing potential sitting in the reserves never playing will never reach the dazzling heights of his potential.

So his manager must be aged 80+ ?? Lol some going! See if he can make it another 20 years then we can complain about minimum retirement age ;)

And yeah although regens help continue the game, they suck.. Transferable attributes like heading/jumping, marking/positioning, dribbling/flair etc. are totally mixed up!
FM08, I got to around 2031 and then the game wouldn't allow me to play on.

I started as Liverpool, and got the sack around the 2014 season, and took charge of the Irish national team for the World Cup. Interestingly enough, I got to the semi-finals of the 2014 WC and after being in charge for about three months, they sacked me after one loss to Greece. Never been sacked by a national team until then.

I believe I skipped one whole season on holiday LOL And then came back around the 2016 season and took charge of Everton for awhile.

Came second one season with Everton, around the 2018 season and then they sacked me for not meeting expectations. Liverpool had been relegated to the Championship so I returned, and some won't believe this, but Steven Gerrard was still going! He was like 40 and had nothing but good finishing, set-pieces, mentality skills and so on but I still played him until he retired.

Got Liverpool back up and managed them until I went to Man United and won the Prem three seasons in a row.

After that the game just wouldn't enter the new season. I tried everything, but it wouldn't budge so I left it, never even bought FM09. I miss that game :(
appretly u b come a maber of a clubs bord n ur in chager of the money n stuff like that bt dno if that true
When I first got fm, i thought when a manager gets old, a headline would come up saying, so and so has passed away, but all that happens is they retire and you cant click on their name, i know someone who has got up to 2050, man united were in the league 1 and john terry was england manager !!!!!!!!!!!!
you picked the best team mate... hope you beat the glens everytime you played them...

Yeah you're right. It would be very interesting to be able to arrange homage matches and farewell matches to the most notorious persons of your club.
