I asked this on the SI forums but I thought I'd repeat it here since this is probably a better audience.
For those of you who have cracked open a FM11 saved game, how difficult would it be to create a converter to make your FM11 saved game usable with FM12? It seems to me that the player attributes have essentially been the same for several versions. Things like the competition data structure are probably known especially since there's an editor shipped with the game. I can't think of anything that would be a deal-breaker.
SI have basically said that they aren't interested in converting saved games from the previous version to the current version because few users want it and they would have to put in a ton of work to make it 100% faithful. An third-party programmer wouldn't be working under the same expectations. A 90% conversion would probably satisfy most. If you had to restrict conversion to only happen your team's off-season, or if your saved tactics couldn't be converted and had to be created in the new version, or if training is completely overhauled in FM12 and you had to redo them from scratch, or if FM11 shortlists had to be manually imported into the FM12 version -- all these things I think users would gladly do to be able to continue their FM11 save in FM12. The goal would be to play with the same players on the same teams in the same competitions as FM11 but be using the new features in FM12.
I know we don't know enough about FM12 to REALLY answer the question but we could extrapolate comparing from FM10 to FM11.
