After a quick tour of Scotland to get a better look at the squad and see how they played in the chosen formation it was time for the hard work to begin... win over the home fans and show them I mean business in our first game of the season.
Ross County v Blackburn Rovers
A throw in from Pedersen to the near post sees Jones score an easy header at the near post in the 21st minute, 10 minutes later an exceptionally late challenge from Kalanic sees him take an early bath after a straight red card. After a good solid start from the lads we go in 1-0 up at half time. A wonderful through ball which splits the County defence in half sees El-Hadji Diouf double our lead to 2-0 in the 88th minute. A game in which I felt we could have showed more potential, especially in front of goal but a win none the less.
Stirling v Blackburn Rovers
A silly challenge from Salgado in the 6th minute results in a penalty being given to Stirling. Unfortunately for us McDonald sends our GK the wrong way, 1-0 Stirling. A wonderful cross from Pedersen sees Kalanic slide the ball past the GK to level the game after only 2 minutes of being behind. A first time cross from Dunn is headed home from Samba giving us a 2-1 lead. A surging run in the 33rd minute from Salgado ending in a cross to Pedersen which he confidently slotted home, an equally great cross in the 45th minute from Mame Diouf sees Kalanic net his 2nd of the game giving us a comfortable 4-1 lead going in at half time. Yet another magnificent cross from Salgado sees Kalanic head the ball home for the 3rd time and earning his hat-trick in the 59th minute. An early cross from Roberts in the 66th minute sees Emerton skip past his man and into space to head the ball home. A game we dominated and won comfortably with our wide men showing they’re on the mark with their crossing. Excellent result.
Dunfermline v Blackburn Rovers
Andrews flicks the ball expertly forward for Benjani to run onto and slide the ball past the GK in the 6th minute, a fantastic start which sends the fans wild. A free kick floated into the back posted from Olsson sees Samba lose his man and head the ball beyond the GK to double our lead to 2-0. Andrews once again heads the ball forward to Benjani who comfortably beats the GK from outside the box to double his goal tally and extend our lead after only 35 minutes. With Roberts losing his man and slotting the ball home to make it 4-0 we go in at half time with a comfortable lead. With Benjani unlucky on a few occasions to get his hat-trick and an injury to Roberts the game finishes a convincing 4-0.
Morton v Blackburn Rovers
An excellent near post shot in the 10th minute from Kalanic gives us an early lead and once again we start off confidently. An average first half performance with Morton gaining most of the possession sees us only lead 1-0 at half time. With Mame Diouf beating the last defender and side stepping the GK in the 76th minute after a wonderful 25 yard pass from his namesake E.Diouf we double our lead. With another cross from E.Diouf we see our lead increase once again with Kalanic side footing the ball into the bottom corner of the goal in the 88th minute of the game. With a poor performance we were still able to hold out and win the game quite comfortably 3-0.
