I am managing Motherwell currently and have beaten Galatasaray and Montpellier on away goals just to qualify for the group stage of the EURO Cup. Being seeded 4th, I knew my team was going to have a tough draw. I drew Feyenoord, Sampdoria and Liverpool which I think is a unfair as those three teams were pretty much top of their respective seedings. I was wondering if anyone has been handed a tougher draw and gotten through? Within 3 years I would like to, win the Scottish Premier, have won 2/3 domestic cups and reached the semi-finals of a continental tournament. Is this too unreasonable? Should I concentrate on domestic or European football? Thoughts please...
I did a game with Partick Thistle (Scottish 2nd tier) and reached the Euro Cup Quarters and Final in my 4th and 5th season (2nd and 3rd season in the top flight) so success in Europe is doable, knocking the old firm from the top will be most difficult, took me 5 seasons in the SPL to finally top Celtic but since Motherwell are already one of the better teams in the league you could do it sooner.
I recommend concentrating on Europe to gain higher coefficients, getting as many points in the groups as possible is important, that way you'll end up getting seeded higher and higher and face easier teams in the qualifiers and groups stages. I always find Europe seems easier than it should be for some reason.
