Welcome to my FM26 career story, where we will be taking the smallest Welsh team in the English football pyramid, Merthyr Town, to the top of world football using only Welsh players.

This is a save concept I've completed twice, with Newport County in FM23 and Merthyr in FM24, but I really wanted to document it from the beginning this time around and in the evolved football landscape of 2025, two years on from when I first attempted it. The added challenge of acclimatising to the new layouts and features of FM26 should make this an interesting task as well.

Merthyr Town appoint local coach

Merthyr Town have appointed local coach Hugo Montgomery ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, replacing the outgoing Paul Michael.

The 26 year old has not managed in senior football previously but comes highly rated as a youth coach with Cardiff and Barry Town as well as heading the football programmes at Bangor and Aberystwyth University.

The Martyrs will be competing in the sixth tier of the English pyramid for the first time since the club re-formed in 2010.

As someone from Swansea I cant agree with the pride of Wales haha but great to see they have appointed a local coach as it would be awesome to see more Welsh coaches doing well
