hey guys, first post here

is there any advantage technically in having a classic tactic over the original type?
not really, if u get ur team adjusted to the chosen tactic it should work.

but yh if u know a certain tactic from before then it might be easier for you to implement that for ur new team.

but tactics have their own good and bad sides.

for an example 4-4-2 is a classic balanced one, u expect your midfield to help both defense and attack whilst ur defense concentrates on just defending and attackers only on attacking. formations like 4-4-2 diamond are different in the way that u have 1 very defensive midfielder to be part of the defense and give full backs a bit more supportive roll and have a very attacking midfielder who concentrates on attack with again wingers as support. with the 4-4-2 diamond u obviously looking for 2 basic formations during the match, its that on attack u always got 3 defenders(2 cb 1 DM) so centrally u got that area closed, and attackingly u got 3 attackers(2 ST 1 AMC). very good for an example counter attacking play so u always got players ready in attack and players always ready in defense.

thats an example on how tactics have their affect, apart from that classic/original/new tactics dont matter much. only depends on how well ur team are prepared with the chosen tactic and if the formation/tactic is chosen good for the team.
hey thanks,

was just fiddling with some things the day and thought id ask!
Ever since FM2004 i have used the same 2 tactics that have served me well, my normal tactic is a 4-4-2 diamond formation playing on the counter attack using short, quick passing, zonal defence and a normal playing philosophy (as opposed to too defensive or too attack minded), i use this regardless of who i am playing, both home and away and in whatever league i might be in.
My other tactic is an ultra defensive 5-1-3-1 when i want to hold on to a lead, sometimes i will play with 2 DM's and 4 backs but i'll use one DM as an alternative CB when defending.
I have tried out other fancy tactics like 5-2-1-2 WB formation, 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 and 4-3-1-2 etc but i usually get tanked as the players don't understand the tactic.
I do believe though that you need the right players for their positions to stand any chance of creating a decent tactic, also being manager of Roma or Barcelona etc with a £150M budget helps.
