I've started a couple of times with Aston Villa now, OK I'm signing similar people each time - but I don't understand why I'm not doing very well.
In my better season for signings, I signed Mbaye Niang and Emre Can for the future. I also signed Gaston Ramirez, Douglas Costa and Ryan Shawcross to play immediately. I bought them all over 48 months so that I could afford them all.
However, despite these good signings (in my eyes), I barely win any matches. My record was like played 25, won 5, drew 10 lost 10.
Can anyone suggest where I'm going wrong? I use formations 4-3-2-1, 4-2-3-1 and 4-2-2-2. Play with a bit of width, defensive line slightly back and counter attack.

I did ok with Villa and didn't buy as good players as the ones you bought.
I always played 4-5-1 both home and away, just changed to counter attacking when away.
I got El Hadji Diouf on a free and played him on the right wing and he did really well. Squad start out hating him but he is soon controlled and contributes well.

I did well with Villa also. I played with a standard 4-4-2, Slightly high defensive line, Very wide and slightly slow tempo. Had the groundskeeper set the field to the longest and widest available. Villa don't have a bad squad, even if some are getting old. I only have the one tactic and it works for me.
I got rid of almost all the staff and brought in my own. Kept the Assistant Manager as he has a good "Tactical Knowledge" rating. Only kept McDonald and Cowans as coaches. Set all training levels to HEAVY, one notch below VERY HEAVY.
New signings I brought into the squad:
J.Guilavogui 3.2M(CM/DM)-very good ball winning CM. Will develop into a great one. Play alongside Delph.
J.Martial 2.5M(CB)and E.Munoz 4.2M(CB)- These 2 players will develop into my "Twin Towers". Apart from C.Clark(CB), the rest of Villa's CB's need to be sold off, so get what you can for them now. Don't sell Clark as he will turn out to be a GREAT CB that can also cover at LB.
R.Rochina 1M (ST)- This guy scored 23 goals in his first season. Played him in the right hand striker slot next to Gabby. Rotated him with Gabby, Bent and Delfounso.
J.Butland 2M (GK)-This guy will turn into a great 'keeper, even though the fans weren't happy with the purchase as he came from Birmingham City.
I also bought several younger players for the future, but the above mentioned made an immediate impact.
I finished in 7th. position in the Premership in my first season.
I finished 4th in my first season with villa. I did the following things:
1. I got Welbeck on loan and he scored 23 goals. He also plays extremely well on the right wing. I got Siphwe Tshabalala for 3.2m quid. He was amzing. You should also put Brad Guzan in goal, since he become better than Given. Bring Cuellar up for corners, since he scored 10 goals for me from cornes.

that's right, it's completely difficult when I play villa for the first time. In the half season, their performance is amazing, but after new year, their performance is dropped.
I bought kadlec, ezequiel, and also gilberto on free transfer. But they're missing many chance, how can i rebuild my team?
