I decided to start a season with Charlton Athletic and manage the young squad to try and hopefully reach the Premiership in 3 seasons.

I decided to have 1 formation that I will use; it is 4-3-3.
My thinking for using this formation was that I want my team to play an attacking controlling kind of football so this is where the 4-3-3 came into it.

An nice pre-season, with 4 wins and 1 draw. I was happy with the season as all my main players got up to match practice. I was also pleased that bradley wright-phillips got a couple of goals.

Home vs Bournmouth

Went with my usual 4-3-3

Line Up: Ben Amos,
Chris Solly, Shane Duffy, Micheal Morrison, Roys Wiggins
Johnny Jackson, David Stephens, John Bostock
Benik Afobe, Nile Ranger, Bradley Wright-Phillips

I had a goaless first had with 2 bournemouth injured. 16 minutes gone and my star left back roys wiggins was injured due to a foul from steven gregory, then 10 minutes later steven gregory for bournemouth was sent of due to voilent conduct i had to wait till the 56 minute for nile ranger to slot home. 26 minutes later bradley wright phillps chip the keeper to make it 2-0 to charlton and then in the dying seconds Ranger was brought down by jason banton, yann kermorgrant stepped up and slotted home to seal the game and earn us 3 points. 3-0 final score

Home vs Exeter League Cup 1st Round

Went with 4-3-3 as per

Line Up: Ben Amos
Chris Solly, Micheal Morrison, Matt Taylor, Andy Hughes
Danny Hollands, Johnny Jackson, John Bostock,
Benik Afobe, Nile Ranger, BWP

15 seconds into the game we went on the attack and afobe crossed the ball in to nile ranger to volley home from close range to make it 1-0 with just 26 seconds played. then in the 29th minute nile ranger was on the score sheet again after a wonderfully waited pass from john bostock found ranger so he could slot it into the exeter net. exeter then had a man taken off injured with a torn ligament thanks to john bostocks challenge. and finally in the 89th minute nile ranger was injured with a torn hamstring after over-stretching and was out for upto 3-4 weeks. 2-0 final score

Away vs Wycombe

4-3-3

Line up: Ben Amos,
Chris solly, shane duffy, micheal morrison, andy hughes,
johnny jackson, danny stephens, john bostock,
benik afobe, BWP, yann kermorgrant

we started well and got our rewared in the 8th minute as shane duffy headed home from bostocks corner to make it 1-0, i had to wait till the second half for a goal to go in and what a freak goal it was from gavin massey of wycombe as he crossed the ball on the volley and it seemed to find its way past ben amos. solly was then injured in the 59th minute my injury troubles continue. in the 78th minute lean cort smashed in a volley from the edge of the area as john bostock added another assist to his name from a fabulas corner. then in the 83rd minute wycombe equalised with a fabulas goal from massey again to make it 2-2. i then told my players to go all out defensive just to take a point from wycombe so we dont come away with nothing. 2-2 final score

Home vs Leyton Orient

4-3-3

line up: ben amos
simon francis, shane duffy, micheal morrison, cedric evina,
danny hollands, johnny jackson, john bostock,
yann kermorgrant, sammy ameobi, BWP

Not much to tell you about this game. both sides were poor, keepers made some good saves, but in the end neither teams looked up for the game so it always looked like it was going to be a draw. final score 0-0

Away vs Scunthorpe

4-3-3

line up: ben amos,
andy hughes, shane duffy, micheal morrison, cedric evina,
danny hollands, danny stephens, john bostock,
paul hayes, BWP, Yann kermorgrant

my team started poorly conceding 2 minutes in from poor defending from morrison, micheal collins then doubled the scoring making it 2-0, at this point i told the lads to push for the goal to bring us back into the game we got that goal in the 44th minute thanks to another assist from bostock right onto morrisons head that made it 2-1. i had to wait till the 82nd minute to see some goal action and it was james beattie who scored from the spot to make it 3-1, in the 87th minute yann kermorgrant gave us hope by scoring from close range to make it 3-2 but we just couldnt find our way past the scunthorpe keeper in the dying minutes, my first loss of the season but i was proud of the comback the players tryed to produce.

Away vs Norwich City League cup 2nd round

4-3-3

lineup: ben amos,
andy hughes, shane duffy, micheal morrison, ryhos wiggins,
mikel alonso, john bostock, tom cairney,
sammy ameobi, BWP, Yann Kermonergant

A had high hopes for the Norwich City game in the Carling Cup. We started well attcking from the off we had a few good chances but bradley right phillips just couldnt find the target in the first half. At half time my lads were buzzing and i gave them an inspiring team talk. The second half kicked of and 5 minutes in to the half nile ranger sent a ball over the top to wright phillips to chip the keeper from 20 yards to make it 1-0, we had a few more chances with kergormant edging the ball wide and sammy ameobi crashing his shot of the cross bar. but in the 85th minute norwich city broke down the left and crossed an out swing ball into the path of grant holt to edge home for the favorates, it knocked our side seeing as we had done so well to hold the lead for 35 minutes, but all we needed was to hold out for antother 5 munutes to get one more shot of progressing and knocking out Norwich. at the fulltime whisltle i huddled round my players and told them to find that one more goal that would win us the game. first half of extra time and 10 minutes in bradley wright phillips skips past 5 players and then the keeper and slots home for our second, the crowd was going wild and the players knew we were 20 minutes away from fame. second half of extra time i told my lads to go for a third and kill off the game it was a risk but it payed of as 5 minutes till the full time whislte theo jones scored an owngoal from a cross to make it 3-1 charlton.and guess who i got in the next round....... Man Sh*tty Come on you addicks we can beat the money bags. final score Norwich 1-3 Charlton

Home vs Brentford

4-3-3

lineup: ben amos
ryhs keogh, shane duffy, leon cort, cedric evina
danny hollands, danny stephens, john bostock,
jay rodriquez, BWP, Yann Kermonogrant

a fairly fair game with both sides challeging for the win but it was charlton who snatched the win with BWP tapping in from close range to seel the points for charlton we did have a scare though when ben amos dropped the ball into the path of an exeter striker but the exeter player nogded it wide. final score 1-0

Home vs Rochdale

4-3-3

lineup: ben amos
ryhs keogh, micheal morrison, shane duffy, roys wiggins
mikel alonso, john bostock, tom cairney
jay rodriquez, BWP, Yann Kermonogrant

a fairly fair game again with both sides challeging for the win but it was charlton who snatched the win with mikel alonso smashing in from 30 yards to seel the points for charlton we did have a couple of scares with rochdale hitting the woodwork on a couple of occasions and them having a goal dissalowed. final score 1-0.

Away vs Walsall

4-3-3

lineup: ben amos
ryhs keogh, shane duffy, micheal morrison, cedric evina,
mikel alonso, danny stephens, tom cairney,
jay rodriquez, BWP, Nile ranger

it was a good and bad game for us,firstly my star man nile ranger was injured again for another 4 weeks after a torn hamstring, then yann kermonorgant scored a powerfull header to make it 1-0, BWP went on too score our second by tapping in from close range. it was till the 69th minute that my injury woes contunied with my new signing ryhs keogh due to a stubbed toe (P*ssY) then 4 minutes later yann kermorgant doubled his tally to make it 3-0 with a wounderfully placed effort, i then had my third and final man injured this time it was danny stephens my strong midfielder. final score 3-0

Away vs Man city Carling Cup 4th round

Mancity line up

4-2-3-1

nielson
coulson, savic, veseli, helan,
kolo toure, gareth barry,
james milner, razak, chantler,
bunn

charlton lineup

4-3-3

ben amos,
simon francis, shane duffy, micheal morrison, roys wiggins,
andy hughes, mikel alonso, tom cairney,
yann kermongant, sammy ameobi, benik afobe

the match started well both teams coming close to an opener but it was charlton who took the lead after simon francis' crossfield ball found the head of yann kermongant to nod home for charltons first. then in the 35th minute mikel alonso pounced onto savic's backpass to make it 2 nil to the visitors. and finnally in the 72nd minute benik afobe was brough down by kolo toure and yann kermongant stepped up to the spot to score his second of the game and charltons third. final score Man City 0-3 Charlton a fabulos win for charlton

Away vs Colchester

the line ups
http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/fmstories/clochestervscharlton.png

Both sides started of well with charlton having the better of the chances, jay rodriquez came close to opening the scoring in the 32 minute but his well time effort was saved by Williams. in the second hald neither side came close to scoring and the game ended 0-0, because of a poor performance from both sides.

Away vs Sheffield Wednesday

lineups

http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/fmstories/vssheffieldwed.png

in my eyes this was such a poor game for us. firstly in the 8th minute wednesday broke on the attack and crossed the ball into moreno to score, then in the 24th minute ben marshall scored a well placed volley from rob jones' cross, i thought my side could get back into the game after rob jones was sent off for a 2 footed tackle on afobe, but it just wasnt to be for charlton as we just couldnt be the wednesday keeper . final score 2-0

home vs carlise

lineups

http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/fmstories/vscarlisle.png

after 2 poor games earlier in the week my side bounced back with a win over carlise. i had to wait till the 64th for the score to open after a shot from jay rodriquez was saved but then wierdly put into the net by the carlise keeper. final score 1-0 charlton

Away vs Leyton Orient Johnpainte trophy 2nd round

lineups

http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/fmstories/vsleytoin.png

the game started well for me as my star man nile ranger dribbled past 3 players and placed his shot into the top corner from 25 yards, things then went from good to bad from my charlton squad as we conceded from another corner with charlie daniels getting the final touch, and then in the 84th minute jonothan tehoue chased a long clearence from a charlton corner, ben amos should of raced to get the ball be he just sat like a tw4t and let the striker take the ball and blast home to kill my teams spirit. we had a chance to equalise but afobe skied high from ten yards final score 2-1 leyton.
hey mate ..

well done with your story so far as it looks to be pretty promising as long as u can keep the results coming your way..
i like how u have been using the young players as they are the future at any club . and also saves u money in the long run :) .

just a suggestion . i think u should learn more than the 1 tactic because by the looks of it . u seem to struggle against teams that play 4-3-3 with the wide midfielders .

Away vs Chesterfield

lineups

http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/fmstories/chesterfield.png

an evenly conteseted game with both sides coming close. the man closet to scoring in the first half was nile ranger who hit a well timed volly but the chesterfield keeper was up to the task, then on the stroke of half time my injury worries contuied yet again after john bostock was taken of with a twisted anlke. not much to talk about the second with both sides counter attacking but then the defece were upto the task to keep either side out. a poor game in some respect i would of like to bounce back with a win after the leyton orient defeat but we just werent good enough. final score 0-0.

away vs tranmere

linups

http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/fmstories/tranmere.png

i was looking for a win to catch with the leauge leaders and my team duly deliveired. firstly in the 32nd minute nile ranger had a shot saved and danny hollands was there to pounce on the rebound, in the 39th minute there was a glimmar of hope for tranmere as andy robinson headed from clode range, but it wasnt enough as nile ranger in the 67th minute went passed 3 players and struck low into the corner. final score 1-2 charlton

home vs exeter

lineups

http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/fmstories/exexter.png

the game started of nicley for me as nile ranger popped up again with a well time volley from close range in the 19th minute. exeter had to wait till the second had to wait till the second half to find an equaliser with brahami headed home from a corner. it was then exeter who suprisingly took the lead with a 25 yard effort from vine past the scrambling amos. but it was mikel alonso of all people who scrammbled in a late equaliser for charlton to alt least get a point and stay in the race for charlton. final score 2-2

home vs ipswich

the lineups

http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/fmstories/ipswich.png

i was expecting us to progress to the quarter finals of the carling cup and we duly deliverd. the first goal came from nile rangers 30 yard effort. and then in the 57th minute we doubled our score with nile ranger again with a wonderful solo effort by skipping past 4 players and rifiling his shot into the bottom corner. i rally think we have a chance of progressing to the final because ive drawn brighton in the quarter finals and if i progress and draw wolves i could really have a shout of winning it.

the table after 18 games

http://i1215.photobucket.com/albums/cc512/fmstories/table.png

weve also got a chance of automatic premotion or even winning the league
go for it!
#39818 Sporting_23 : go for it!
Will do
Nice story mate, I used Charlton once and flew through League 1 & Championship.

Are you using the Winter Transfers Update as Danny Haynes for me was an absolute beast!?
How is it going with Tom Cairney? Can you show me a screenshot of his development...and by the way nice job with Charlton keep it up ;)
How are you doing in transfers? Maybe you've wrote it somewhere and I'm just blind :))
