Hi,

I need suggestions with my situation.

I am coaching Gimnasia Jujuy, It is a poor team in the 2nd Division of Argentina. In my first season I could Promote the Team up to the First Division. It was a magnific achievement.

But now, I am in the First Division, and my team is for long, the worst, and I can´t find the way to get some winings. I try to improve my tactic, but is imposible. And I am strongly needed of winings if not, I will be back soon in second division.

Any suggestion?

Thanks
I'd say it's not too easy to make a change if you're far along in the season, and if you don't have an opportunity to change playing staff.

If it gets really desperate - if you're failing to inspire your team, especially - you can sometimes resort to the desperation measure of letting your assistant manage a game or two (take a day's vacation on matchday), occasionally a different viewpoint can actually help for a bit.

Anyway, just a few thoughts, guessing from your title "Defensive Team" that you have problems conceding too many goals.

It depends on situations, but normally I find getting too defensive with your tactics doesn't work. You'll still concede, because the other team will be attacking all the time and will eventually find an opening, and you will have no goals to counter that with. Whether you go further than "Balanced" is not clear. One thought is if trying to play defensively keeps failing, you may actually want to be more aggressive - try to push up (and play offside) and meet the ball earlier so the opponent doesn't get an easy run into your defensive third. This brings risks of course, but if you're losing anyway, it may be a gamble worth taking.

Try and search your squad for the best possible central defence pairing. This means you must have at least one good in the air, and you need players with concentration (so they don't make mistakes), tackling (winning the ball), strength, anticipation, decisions. You need to decide how to deploy them - unless the best pairing is very similar, you may want to abandon deploying them both as "Central Defender / Defend" and go to a Stopper/Cover model. If you have one defender who does something really well but is weak at other things, you can set that defender to "Limited" and then try to choose how the other defender can complement this one best. If you have an opportunity to recruit new players, see if you can upgrade your defenders. If you're not playing with a defensive midfielder to help out (in anchor man role) perhaps this would help.
Thanks a Lot for your answear mwichmann.

I think that my problem is the overall thing. I concede like 2 or 3 goals for match, and I don´t have the enough attacking strength to score at least the same amount. More over, I got no body angry in my team, cause no body got any expectation in this season. The board of Directors told me at the begining :"Get as much experience as you can by playing in the First Division". But this is not just confortable with me, I still see it as failure.

I was thinking that perhaps I could receive some advice of how to construct a tactic that woud make my team much stronger in the defensive area, and triyng then to score at least 1 goal. But as you say (And already happened to me), when I try to make my team very defensive, It became in not having the ball at all and suffering a lot.

I also try the one of pressing in their field, and recover the ball as fast as possible (I am at this situation right now). It is not bad at all, I am defeated most of the time for a goal only.

Perhaps if I try with playing in defensive mode from the begining I get some results.

I got a question, pretty amateur, that I am Trying to solve (perhaps u can)

In a Player Instruction, how does the mentality works? What happened, for example, If i get a striker in defensive mentality.

Thanks again.
Well,

Back to second Division. Time to try it again.
A striker with a defensive mentality (probably a defensive forward or something) is when he's looking more to steal the ball from the last line or the defensive midfield and lay it on to someone else. Not really come back. It's most effective if you have another, very attacking forward who relies on feeding balls... such as a poacher. But alone, it's not very useful...

Best of luck...
