Sporting Clube de Portugal is the third biggest football club in Portugal, after FC Porto and Benfica Lisbon.

Sporting play the home games at Estadio Jose Alvalade.

A 50044 capacity stadium built in 2003 for the Euro 2004. Hosted the UEFA Cup final in 2005, won by CSKA Moskow, Sporting being runner-up in that year.

Last league championship win was 11 years ago and with the club disappointing in recent years, the club president, Luís Godinho Lopes, decided to change the management team and bring young, talented and former player at Sporting, Jose Manuel as the teams manager.

A Press conference was held today at Estadio Jose Alvalade to appoint new portuguese promising manager Jose Manuel, age 36, former portuguese international for 5 years. He was forced to retire at the age of 29 because of knee injury. Played at Sporting Lisbon for 10 years, he was very appreciated at Sporting by the club fans.

First words for the new manager where very promising for the fans:

"I will try to bring the best players that i can to this club, but let's not forget that we have one of the best academies in Europe and there are some very promising young players there."

Our objective this season is to earn a Champions League spot at the end and go as long as we can in Europa League.

Current squad:

Goalkeepers:

Rui Patricio
Marcelo
Tiago

Defenders:

Arias
Joao Pereira
Daniel Carrico
Junior Rodriguez
Anderson Polga
Oguci Oniewu

Diego Capel
Matias Fernandez
Jeffren
Elias

Forwards:

Seba

Jose Manuel said at the conference that the first impression is that this squad has potential, but needs a little time. With a few signings he is certain that a Champions League place is possible.

Main transfer target:
Darwin Quintero - Santos Laguna

and i will try to bring in another central midfielder.

Manuel will have today his first training session with the players. After that he has scheduled a visit to Sportings Academy to make a first impression of the place that grew a bunch of talented players such as: Luis Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani, Quaresma, Simao, etc.

Tomorrow Sporting will have a friendly match against the reserve squad, then the team will leave on a tour in Switzerland where they will meet some local teams.

Jose Manuel said that he will use a 4-3-1-2 as the starting tactic, and using as a back-up 3-5-2 formation. He then formed a starting line-up with the players he now has and it looks like this:

Rui Patricio; Joao Pereira - Anderson Polga - Daniel Carrico - Emiliano Insua; Marat Izmailov - Elias - Schaars; Matias Fernandez; Diego Capel - van Wolfsfinkel. But he mentioned very clearly that every player will have the chance to prove himself and that non of the players is irreplaceable.

Next Update tomorrow with the pre-season friendly games and starting campaign in Super League and Europa League.

Hope you all enjoy it as this is my first story. Any feedback is good.
I'll follow :)
Sorry for who was following this, but midway in november my computer shut down because of power failure. I cursed and i cursed and then i realised that the only save i made was just befor the season opener with Braga, back in August. I'm not going to go back an play the games again, i'm sorry. I want to start a story with Juventus, if someone is interested.
