Overview
For my first manager story I have decided to go for my supported team Chelsea F.C. With an ageing squad to rebuild whilst making a strong challenge for silverware and a chairman known for making rash decisions on managers this will be a tough test.
Update
I am using the 12.2.0 update allowing for all january transfer inclusions such as Gary Cahill. This alsomeans that I will be replacing Roberto Di Matteo at the Bridge.
Nations
I have chosen to have a large database of players to choose from as you never know where the next Messi or Heskey might be found.
Storyline Target
I have set myself a couple of goals for this storyline. These include the creation of a new younger First Team squad with bags of potential and depth, a new Backroom team to get the most out of my players, a new stadium to put Chelsea commercially on par with the other big teams and finally a cabinet full of trophy’s as soon as possible.
Season Objectives
I have been allocated £5m transfer budget and £2m in wages so for any major transfers to be made in the opening window will have to sell. I am aiming to introduce a couple of the younger players to first team football this season. The likes of Lukaku, Chalobah and Ake will all have chances to experience this. I am aiming to win one of the three larger competitions this season with preference being 1. The league 2. Champions League 3. FA Cup. Winning any of these would be pleasing due to my old squad and lack of funds.
All that’s left to do now is start the pre-season campaign and make some key signings. All thoughts our welcome.
Due to a lack of budget I have decided to keep all of my backroom staff for the first season. I have made a couple of early transfer bids for Ibrahim Afellay, Luke Shaw and Trindade de Vilhena. I have also cancelled my connections with all my affiliated clubs so that I can put my own personal mark on them. The board have now begun looking for a club to help with work permits.
I then adapted my tactics to suit my style of play. I have three rough bases; Attacking, Controlling and Defensive, though I rarely use Defensive as a starting formation. I also tinkered with the training schedules to a strategy I find helps players develop to their best.
Chelsea 1-0 Chelsea Reserves
We dominated the game but were a little disappointing in front of goal though fitness levels were low so that could be the issue.
Transfer Update
Name: Tony Trindade de Vilhena
From: Feyenoord
Fee: £1.2M
Name: Luke Shaw
From: Southampton
Fee: £1.3M
I have also opened contract negotiations with Ibrahim Afellay on a £1.7M move.
Pre-Season Update
Vitesse 0 – 2 Chelsea
Chelsea 4 – 1 Werder Breman
Montreal Impact 0 – 2 Chelsea
Wycombe 0 – 3 Chelsea
Lazio 0 – 4 Chelsea
Overall a very successful pre-season only conceding 1 goal and scoring 16. I was also able to introduce some youngsters to the squad and they performed to a good standard.

who are your other transfer targets
After the transfers that I just posted I have hardly any budget left so unless I get some more investment from Abramovich I am unlikely to make any more signings this season. However with players like Kalou, Bosingwa and Drogba out of contract at the end of the season unless they impress I will need to look at possible replacements.

Thanks a lot. I find that even the big teams can be a challenge in trying to create a younger fresher squad. I hope you continue to enjoy the story.
good story so far. try giving connor clifford some game time, he is a pretty decent player.
Thanks for your advice I am contemplating bring him into carling cup games but he has never really stepped up to the mark the same with Hutchinson. However my squad doesn’t have that much depth at the moment so I assume he will get some game time.
August 2011
Chelsea 3 – 0 Wigan
A very pleasing opening game to the season, we completely dominated from kick-off and only allowed them 1 shot the entire game. Good performances from Cole, Ramires and Torres but Man of the Match went to Mata for a goal and assist.
Everton 1 – 1 Chelsea
Overall, probably not the worse result for us but still frustrating as we were poor in front of goal. No real standout performances within the team other than the Man of the Match winner Malouda for his goal.
Chelsea 4 – 1 West Brom
Good display from the team with Drogba getting on the score sheet twice. However Man of the Match once again went to Mata who has been in good form so far this season. A little disappointed we couldn’t keep a clean sheet conceding late in the game.
Group Stage Draw
Overall I pretty good draw with only Lerverkusen looking likely to challenge me for top spot. The only downside is the amount of travelling we will have to do for away legs so I will have to rotate the squad around.
Third Round Draw
Avoided any of the big teams but Fulham will still be tough opposition. Home tie is always favourable but as I’m not too reliant on the League cup I will probably play a much changed team.
