Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has called a press Conference. Hi everyone thanks for coming I am here today to take question on Tony Pulis leaving the club.
Press Daily Mirror
So it is true that Mr Puils left Stoke City Football Club.
Peter Coates
Yes it is true in the last 24 hours tony has left the club. And 1st of all we wish to thank tony. In the last 5 years that tony has been here he has done a remarkable job and myself and the board would like to thank tony for what he has done and brought to stoke city football club and we hope tony has a lot of success in his career.
Press The Sun
Mr Coates can you tell us the reason why Mr Puils has left the club after having a great season last year and getting the club into Europa League this season.
Peter Coates
Well 1st of all tony had a great season last year getting the club into the Europa league is a great achievement. Now to your question they reason behind tony leaving the club is tony came to my office at the end of the season saying he felt he had done all he could for the club and felt it was time to step down and let someone else take the club forward. I tried with all my power to convince tony that he was the man to take the club forward and asked him to rethink his decision over the holidays and he agreed to do that. The 1st week back after holidays I offered tony a new 5 year deal which was rejected by tony saying he still was going to leave the next day tony came to my office and handed my his letter of Resignation so in the end I could not do anything and again I wish him all the best.
Press The Sun
So with this going on for the last 2 months and now with tony gone will there be a few players leaving the club also as they all said they love playing under tony. And with stoke been labelled a home away from home all the players looked at tony as a daddy of the club and with tony gone the moral must be affected really badly.
Peter Coates
Yes this has been going on for the last 2 months and we tried everything to keep tony at the club but his mind was made up he was a great manager and also a great friend to me and everyone within the club. In terms of the players I have set down with the team and had a talk with all the players all though they are upset they have all said they will still be here next season and will still give 110% to the club and take the club forward they all understand they still have a job to do.
Press The Mirror
Mr Coates the question on everyone’s lips is who is going to be the new manager of Stoke City football club.
Peter Coates
We have appointed youth team coach J Kavanagh has an interim manager as from today ontill we find a new manager who we find can take the club forward. Kavanagh has been at the club 3 years as a youth coach and has shown great leadership and mental quality’s to maybe one day become a great manager still very young only 26 it’s a big step up for him. From today on Kavanagh is the manager until we appoint a new manager to lead the club thank you that’s all for now Kavanagh’s 1st press conference will be tomorrow.
