I have offered a contract to Jomo Cosmos's nineteen year old striker Lucky Masenya, and am waiting on confirmation. Masenya is currently injured, and has not yet been offered a new contract by the Cosmos.
His current contract expires on 31 May '14, and would safeguard Dynamos against any offers being made for Ramoduma.
I also like the look of another Jomo Cosmos player Nicholas Khumalo, who like Masenya hasn't yet had a contract renewal put in front of him. Unfortunately for us, Khumola has an agent and he doesn't want to discuss terms.
Maybe the tune will change if the contract expires and he becomes available on a free in June.
Tabs will be kept, but with Swallows and Supersport also showing varying degrees of interest, I am not holding out too much hope!
Nicholas Khumalo has signed with Supersport, and will move on 1 Jun '14.
That said, Dynamos have made some unexpected moves in the transfer market, and these will be outlined at the end of January 2014.
I can't garner any interest in thirty-two year old midfielder 'Fatso Mashego, and now the cheeky sod wants me to buy him out of his contract and release him on a free.
He's back on the block, and it goes without saying that I rejected his request.
There is also no interest in twenty four year old attacking mid, Doctor Matsimbi, but like we found with Mahlanga, it is just a matter of time and being patient.
Golden Arrow are now interested in loan deals for both Matsimbi and 'Fatso Mashego.
With a week to go in the transfer window, here is hoping they table some form of contract soon.
24.1.14
Yusuf Mashego is now listed as favoured personnel in the team information screen, as he has become known for his consistent scoring. Mashego is also one yellow card away from a one match suspension.
New vice captain Barkhuizen has already sat out one match and is available for selection.
With a lucky victory in the final game of January '14, we ensure that the lowest place we can finish in the league is 14th, above the relegation zone.
Our fans can take heart from the fact that we will not be dropping a division next term. Of course, I am aiming to take them to the Prem. Division.
1.2.14
The window and registration has just slammed closed. We were comfortable with performance of the team, aside from the ball retention, so hadn’t planned to make any real moves apart from the sale of the players whom were not featuring in the first team plans.
We found ourselves having to hunt for bargains in the market as unexpected offers were made.
The transfers of Prince, Hlabana, Netshidzivhe, and Sanudi were organized before the window opened, and shortly afterwards, FCAK made an offer of 18K for Mahlanga which finally stuck.
In terms of players that I wanted to sell, it only really left me with ‘Fatso Mashego (who has requested a transfer), Doctor Matsimbi and potentially Ntshingila - whom I subsequently fell out with over contract and salary demands and he is leaving at the end of May – that I really wanted to sell.
One of the key ingredients for any long term success at a club is financial stability. For Dynamos, and the nature of the South African league being what it is, no player is indispensable. We also need to seize every available opportunity to make any money, and I bank myself to find similar, if not better, younger players than the ones which are sold. It is hard work, and time consuming, but ultimately rewarding.
With Ntshingila leaving, this meant that we were going to be short some depth at left back, so that was what was on my shopping list to start with, and being the cheap skate, I was looking for players either with amateur contracts or free transfers I could pick up without paying a red cent.
When Korean side Ulsan made an approach for starting striker Kweleta, I felt uneasy. The side were short of strikers – only having five and three would start – and earlier peaks at what was on offer in the transfer market was uninspiring to say the least. I accepted the offer for reasons already outlined, but felt slightly panicked that we may have to compromise our standards to make fast cash.
My concerns were unwarranted, as I soon found Malusi Mseluku available on a free, who when compared to Kweleta, was quicker and younger and didn’t seem to lack in any of the other skills Kweleta had. Once the deal with Ulsan had been made and we banked the 20K transfer fee, an approach was made to Mseluku, who settled on an eighteen month, GBP240 per week contract. This meant that we saved money on the wage budget too, as Kweleta was one of the top earners in the squad.
The approach by FCAK for backup keeper Mamphita was totally unexpected, and whilst it was only 5K, I didn’t want him to come back and make waves, as he is the perfect bench riding goalie. Sits quietly, knows his place in the squad and trains well. I made an offer for David Mahlanga, Orlando Pirates u-19 goalkeeper, basically hoping just to fill the space on the roster as I had had limited success recruiting stoppers before.
Mahlanga will only arrive on 1.6.14 after his contract was up – I cursed loudly – but it became a non issue as Mamphita rejected the offer from FCAK.
When Amazulu made an offer of 40K for Ramodumo, I nearly fell off my chair, and accepted it before they changed their minds! If Kweleta was only worth 20K (mind you, the fans are a bit upset), then I couldn’t fathom why Ramodumo was deemed to be worth more. When the deal was confirmed, I was 40K richer, but in a bit of a pickle with my strikers, or lack of strikers being more the issue.
We were however able to sign talented, albeit currently injured, striker Lucky Masenya from Cosmos after the expiry on his current contract in June.
With Ntshingila signing with Batau FC and definitely leaving, my search for a replacement took me back into the transfer market, where I eventually signed left defender Radebe and striker Pakamani Mngadi from amateur contracts in some deep dark corner of the world for no cost.
The last move in the transfer window was Golden Arrows offering a loan move for Doctor Matasbi, which was a long time coming, but was accepted and confirmed on the last day of the window.
January ’14 review
Successful navigated through Jan transfer window;
Wages still under budget and transfer funds still untouched, but now 136K;
Board approval still at 74%;
Able to finally transfer Matsambi and Mahlanga;
Undefeated through month, but unable to record clean sheets in any of the games;
Profit of 111K made;
Onana, Mabaso and Edgard all impressive in training.
