A few "frustrating" points on FM13

- Players rarely tackle, regardless of settings!
- Opposition players ghosting by 3 or 4 defenders going for the same ball!
- Goals being scored easily from cross balls
- Goalkeepers poor distribution, often leading to goals

Such a shame but i think i'll stick to FM12....new one is a massive disappointment.

Opinions folks??
I only agree with the second statement, and also note that my players easily get past opposition players as well, so I can't really complain.

The third one is purely down to tactics, and I have no problem defending them. My recommendation would be to put all defenders with the duty of Defend. This works for me.

The goalkeepers distribution really depends how good they are. I have Patricio and Buffon on two saves, and their distribution is fine.
i agree with Blue on this, im playing as Newcastle United (not exactly known for their defense) and ive won the premier league twice now playing Santon, Colocini, Steven Taylor and Anita (the starting defenders) and i usually end up with the best defense most seasons.

Check your training and spend time on Defensive positioning and defending set pieces for a couple of weeks before playing teams with decent attackers. you should find this will help. also i use zonal marking, not man marking.

regarding the goalkeepers distribution, if you mean from goal kicks then just like in real life, goalkicks can be intercepted, if its throws whats the keepers throwing score ?

THere are SO MANY different reasons for these issues, and its possible some may be game bugs which the devs are working on but i feel you may get a better experience by looking closer at your players, how often they play together, tactic familiarity, concentration levels, defense position training, defense coaches (how good are they ?).
I do not have any of the following problems.

1st Point: My players are always tackling. You can use the touchline instruction "Hassle Opponents" to make them tackle even more.

2nd Point: If players are beating your defenders easily it is down to two possible things: either that player has a high dribbling stat OR your defenders have low composure and concentration stats, alongside their tackling + marking.

3rd Point: If you are conceding too many crosses, set your fullbacks' mentality to Defensive. This means that they will more likely be in the right position to stop crosses from the opposing wingers.

4th Point: Again, this comes down to composure and concentration.

Composure and concentration affect the game a lot this year, as like irl. Look at Manchester City vs Liverpool, for example. Both of City's goals were from lapses in concentration and composure in the Liverpool back line. This shows how important these two attributes are

Not forgetting the fact Reina is crap :P
I don't have nearly as much credibility as the others commenting, but after messing around on a few saves, I've found zonal marking fixes a ALOT of defensive problems I originally had.
Folks

thanks for your input. I have played FM since it began way back in the 90s and I do look at defensive set pieces etc etc....problem maybe that I took a random team and got Notts Forest!!.....there's always decent bosmans in the second year to shore up my defence!!
