Liverpool Tactics

Hi all,
I recently bought FM13 as I am interested in management style games. I have a passing interest in football but don't really follow it in depth.

I chose to manage Liverpool as I didn't think it would be too much of a challenge and it would pretty much run itself. How wrong was I?!

I from July to October I won one single game and that was a friendly, the rest were losses. I was pretty made up just to get a draw!

I know this sounds incredibly stupid but I didn't appreciate how tactics are the bread and butter of this game. I don't really know the Liverpool squad and to be honest, apart from asking my assistant manager I didn't know what to do.

I have watched a few tactic videos on YouTube but nothing seems to work, I just lose constantly.

Could you guys please guide a newbie? Do you know of any tactics which will help me out and start winning games? I need a winning formula!

Thank you for your time.
These are the three tactics I use for my AC Milan team:

First Choice - 4-2-3-1

Backup - 4-3-1-2

Backup - 4-1-2-1-2

To help you out I will try out a save with Liverpool using these three tactics, and will let you know how I progress. Only because I had these problems when I first started playing FM :)

Liverpool have quite a strong squad but need to sign a decent striker as cover for Suarez.

Take some time to look at your squad paying particular attention to what positions & roles within those positions they specialise in.

Don't try to fix your problems with new signings.

Team talks and pre-match press conferences can make big differences to players' mental states and this translates into on-pitch performance. Lower your expectations of your team against strong opposition and when away from home.

Have several different tactics ready to use depending on your opposition, something attacking for weaker teams, something defensive for stronger teams.

Winning the midfield battle is very important, Liverpool have quite a strong squad for central midfield. Try using Lucas as a Defensive midfielder between the defence and midfield, Gerrard as a box-to-box midfielder or just plain central midfielder and Joe Allen.

Using 'shouts' can change the way your team go about things, something that works for my Spurs team and should work for your liverpool side is telling them to 'Run at defence' which means that your players will try to dribble close to the opposition goal at speed. Make sure you tell your wingers (who will be the ones doing this most often) to hold off from shooting at range because they will do it often and miss often.

Sturridge is doing good for me,4 games 5 goals,i can't say that he will go whole season like that but yea...I'm playng with one striker at the moment so i think Sturridge will be there for a while and Suarez can play behind him...He is playng really good,i dont see need to stop him :)
