BREAKING NEWS!
Crewe Alexandra manger Steve Davis has left the League One Club with immediate effect. The board of directors felt that although the young manager, who succeeded club legend Dario Gradi, had done a great job, a change was needed as the club looked to push on to the second tier of english football, and possibly beyond. The club has looked at many potential candidates, but have eventually decided that an Englishmen of Polish descent named Louis John Ostrowski would be the ideal man to take the club to new heights. The railwaymen have recently won promotion to the third tier but are looking to progress further. The club have not won a trophy since 1937 when they won the Welsh Cup for a second time despite being based in Cheshire but Ostrowski stated on his arrival " The club have the stature and financial backing to win a number of trophies in a few years time. The board and I have decided that our side is good enough to stay in the division and then become a major force in the country."

Steve Phillips

Phillips is the number one goalkeeper although he is 34 and will need a replacement.

Back up keeper Martin probably won't be playing much as Phillips looks much stronger.
Crewe Alexandra Squad Review

Defenders

Adam Dugdale

Not the best player in the squad and will probably be used mainly as a sub.

Harry Davis

A 20-year old with a bright future and also one of the best players at the club.

Matt Tootle

A young player who could break into the side in a few years but back up for now.

Kelvin Mellor

Typical defender and first teamer despite being only 21.

Gregor Robertson

Experienced Scottish defender signed from Chesterfield by the previous management.

Mark Ellis

Defender Ellis looks concerned but shouldn't be worried abut his place in the side.

Midfielder in Makelele mould who could prove very useful.

Luke Murphy

Key player who has spent all his career so far at Crewe.

Railwaymen defeated by favourites Leicester

Jeffrey Schlupp celebrates the winner.

New Crewe manger Louis Ostrowski's reign did not get off to the best start with a 1-0 loss to Leicester, but the club did amazingly well and fought for the win although it wasn't to be. The Railwaymen's hearts were broken ten minutes from time when Jeffrey Schlupp broke past defender Daniel Devine, who was making his debut for the club, and slotted a weak shot underneath the Alex's goalkeeper Steve Phillips. The game was balanced and Crewe did not deserve to lose, which was reflected in the post match press interview by Leicester manager Nigel Pearson who said "We scraped past them when we should have won easily but that doesn't mean we didn't play well, the problem was that Crewe played well too and nearly matched us. It was a disappointing start to the season for us though."

Rovers sunk by dominant Alex

Doncaster players are distraught while Max Clayton celebrates.

The new season got off to a great start for Crewe as they defeated recently-relegated Doncaster Rovers at The Alexandra Stadium. The game was there for the taking and after an hour of play had remained goalless, Max Clayton pounced on the ball after Doncaster's goalkeeper Gary Woods dropped a shot from Michael West for the only goal of the game. Max Clayton revealed in a post-match interview that Gary Woods did not make a mistake. "Michael(West)'s shot was strong and he did all he could, he couldn't hold it and it just fell at my feet."
However, Doncaster manager Dean Saunders was less forgiving."Gary knows that he should have caught the initial shot. It was straight at him and the least he could do is parry it away from any Crewe player. He pushed it straight to Clayton and he doesn't miss those."

Man of the Match was Doncaster's Robert Jones.

Cherries pick of the bunch but Crewe unlucky to lose

The crowd is clearly not a sell out despite the visit of the league leaders.

Crewe Alexandra looked to keep their form up after defeating Doncaster but unfortunately it wasn't to be as they succumbed to a late goal to lose 1-0. Miles Addison popped up at the far post and weakly volleyed past the Mirko Ranieri, the Italian youngster in goal. Crewe were put on the back foot when Craig Sutherland, the striker on loan from Blackpool, was sent off for a disgraceful dive. The railwaymen were on a good passing move when Sutherland went down with the defender nowhere near. Crewe manager Louis Ostrowski told Cheshire Sport that he will be sent back to Blackpool if performances do not improve.

Man of the Match was the goalscorer, Bournemouth's Miles Addison.

Crewe defeat favourites United

Michael West pounces on the ball to assist Murphy.

Crewe got immediately back onto winning ways with a great 2-0 victory over Scunthorpe United. The Iron were easily favourites but Ostrowski's Crewe held them for the first half. Crewe centre-back Mark Ellis then went off with a groin strain and then debutant Robin Shroot had to go off with an injury to the knee making it look like Scunthorpe may be able to take the lead as Shroot was the main attacking outlet for the Alex. However this was idea was short lived because Michael West stepped out of the shadows so it was no suprise that after 77 minutes West latched onto Luke Murphy's cross to head home and Crewe were deservedly in the lead. with Scunthorpe's confidence shattered Crewe dominated from then on and Luke Murphy scored after a fantastic cross which was controlled by West, who passed to Murphy who fiercely shot from 6 yards in injury time.

Man of the Match was Michael West of Crewe.

Wisdom gets his first Crewe goal as the Alex win 1-0

Stevenage rarely got the ball to their attackers

The Railwaymen continued their great start to the season by defeating Stevenage 1-0. Stevenage are now in their second season in League 1 and Second-Season-Syndrome is a real worry for them as they lost yet another game to drop to 22nd. The only goal came from loanee Andre Wisdom who was in the right place at the right time to deflect a Luke Murphy cross through 2 defenders and the keeper. Crewe can count themselves lucky that they weren't punished for their poor accuracy in front of goal, but Stevenage could only muster 3 shots all game and Steve Phillips barely had to do anything. Crewe's new manager Louis Ostrowski has said that his side can win the title this year."We are on amazing form and on our day we can beat any team in the Football League. We may have only just come up under Davis but I intend on gooing further, and faster too.

The Man Of The Match was Andre Wisdom, who is on loan at Crewe from Liverpool.

Alex knocked out of Johnstone's Paint Trophy on penalties

Tranmere celebrate after the 5-4 penalties victory

Crewe went out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in the first round after an even game against Tranmere Rovers saw them lose 5-4 on penalties. The game stayed 0-0 and when the referee blew for full time then it would go straight to a shoot-out. Joao Carlos missed the all-important first penalty and Tranmere scored every shot from 12 yards they got. Crewe would also score the rest of their spot-kicks but Tranmere progressed to the next round.

Despite not taking a penalty kick, Mark McChrystal of Tranmere was named the official Man Of The Match.
