My Decision

I still couldn’t believe it, I was going to be a professional footballer. Now came the hardest decision of my life, I spoke to my dad, my closest friends, my agent and the managers of all the Clubs who had bid for me and I came to the decision that I would join ……

Doncaster Rovers. Dean Saunders spoke to me and said I had great talent and he’d love to guide me through my footballing career and that was exactly what I wanted to hear. I wanted a manager who would be there as a manager but also as a mentor and Mr Saunders seemed like the perfect man to do that, after all, he hadn’t quit playing that long ago.

I have initially signed a youth contract until my 17th birthday when I will sign a contract that will pay me £1,200 a week. The money is just a bonus and I hope to break into the first team within the next couple of years.
Nice :D

Donny Win Opening Friendly at Grimsby

The opening friendly of the season saw Doncaster travel to Grimsby, and in a very even game with both teams creating chances, it was Rovers who secured the win with two goals just after half time. The goals came from Iain Hulme and Billy Paynter who both showed they will have a big influenced on how Rovers do this year. The game wasn’t all perfect for Doncaster as Liam Wakefield was sent off with 5 minutes to go.

Doncaster manager Dean Saunders also handed a starting debut to new 16 year old signing, Anthony Calibri. Calibri joined on a free transfer and is widely tipped to have a long career in the game. When asked about Calibri’s debut, Saunders replied, “Anthony has shown us in his first couple of weeks of training that he has the talent to play first team football. He has come in and impressed the rest of the lads and I thought he deserved it. I just want him to carry on what he’s been doing and you will all see more of him.”

Anthony Calibri was also on hand to answer a couple of our questions, firstly I asked him what it felt like to put on a Doncaster shirt and he replied, “It was strange, I’m a Man City fan so to wear red felt weird but it felt really good to wear a Rovers shirt. I’m thankful to the gaffer and the rest of the lads for supporting me and I hope to continue impressing.” Clearly showing his humour, I jokingly asked him when he will be replacing experienced midfield man James Harper in the starting eleven, “(laughs) hopefully soon. No I’m only joking, James is a great player and he’s has been really good to me since I arrived.”
Great start mate, keep this up :)
Really enjoying this story so far. Keep it up.

My Pre-season

Pre-season is over and I’ve played a part in every game. I can’t believe it seriously, the manager has given me the opportunity and I don’t quite think I’ve done enough to impress too much.

I started 4 of the 5 games as well and in the game I was sub I played 45 minutes as well, so I’ve been given plenty of game time. I’ve been told by our stats guy that in my time on the pitch I completed 72% of my passes which is decent but I don’t think it’s good enough.

My chances of game time in the league have also been lessened by Doncaster signing Michael Johnson from Man City on loan until January, so I’ll just have to work harder in training and hope I do get a chance.

I also received the news that I have been allocated a squad number though so my dad ran straight out and bought a Doncaster shirt with “Calibri 12” on the back. This was a big moment for me because it let me know that the manager had faith in me and I have a chance at the first team if I work hard enough. So let’s go!
Let's hope he has a good season :)

Donny Crash Out Of League Cup

Doncaster Rovers have been knocked out of the Capital One Cup in the first round, after a 3-2 defeat away at Crewe. Doncaster went 1-0 down after 13 minutes but two goals from Iain Hulme in the next 10 minutes gave them a 2-1 lead, only got Crewe to make it 2-2 before half time. The game looked set for extra time but in the final minute Crewe got a penalty that was converted by Michael West to send Alexandra into the second round.

Doncaster also handed a first team debut to Anthony Calibri, who started alongside James Harper in the centre of midfield. Calibri showed his inexperience a few times by giving the ball away but he is clearly showing Dean Saunders enough in training to warrant a starting place.

Liking the premise of this story. Was similar to an Idea I had but I like the way you have executed it.
Good start to this, waiting to see where Mr Calibri will be in a few seasons' time :)
Love this idea and you're an excellent writer, I look forward to your future updates.
