Calibri Signs Professional Deal

Doncaster Rovers are delighted to confirm the news that youth team player Anthony Calibri has agreed to a 2 year professional contract at The Keepmoat Stadium. Anthony has already appeared several times for Rovers in the opening months of the season and we hope that his career can develop in Doncaster.

New Rovers manager, Pat Bonner said, “I’m delighted to have Anthony on board. He is a great talent and what we see in training is the reason we know he will be a star in the future. At 17 he has so much to offer, and I am hopeful he sees his future here and we can utilise his talents.”

Anthony gave us a quick comment on signing his first professional contract, “I’m delighted, a year ago I never expected this to happen so I am so happy to have signed this deal. I’d like to thank the new manager for his support, my family and friends and of course, Dean Saunders who gave me this chance.”

November 2012 – Another Month Without First Team Action

November was a little disappointing for me as I was only an unused sub in two games for the first team, but I played two games for the under 18s and managed to score another goal. On a massive positive note in November, I had my 17th birthday and with this came my first professional contract. This is where my career real begins as I am now being paid £1,200 a week and have been given 2 years to show what I can do.

In terms of the team though it was a much better month under our new manager, as we won 4 games, drew 1 and lost 2. Our good form has seen us rise up the table to 15th and hopefully we can push for the play offs as the season goes on.

I played 69 minutes against Lincoln and was a little disappointing with a match rating of 6.5, but I gave the ball away far too much to be happy with my performance. But a week later we played York and I managed to grab the opening goal in a 2-0 win.

I’m hoping to have more of an impact on the first team in the busy Christmas period, especially as personally I have to come to terms with my first Christmas away from home.
Unlucky mate. It'll take time to get you to the top.

Doncaster Reach Johnstone’s Paint Trophy N Semi’s

Doncaster Rovers today reached the Semi-finals of the Northern section of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy after beating Bradford in the Quarter-finals. Despite the game finishing 1-1, Donny were able to take the game on penalties with 17 year old Anthony Calibri scoring the winning penalty.

After the game we caught up with Anthony who said, “after missing a penalty in an earlier round, I had no fear of stepping up today and was delighted when the ball hit the back of the net, and it was made even sweeter by it being the winner.”

Doncaster will face Coventry in the Semi-final at The Keepmoat Stadium.

Scoring the winning penalty..it's what dreams are made of!
Hopefully that should give him a boost in confidence. :)

December 2015 – A Bit of Christmas Cheer?

Another month passes on my first season in football, and I had a better month. I started 3 games for the first team this month and was an unused sub in 2 others.

The three games I started were in the FA Cup 2nd round against Oxford, where despite playing the full 90 minutes I was a little disappointed with my performance and gave the ball away too much in a 1-0 win that saw us progress to the 3rd round, I got a rating of 6.1. The next game was just 3 days later where I put the ball in the back of the net for the first time in a Doncaster shirt and it was a vital goal, as it was the winning penalty that sees us move into the Semi’s of the JPT.

The other game I started was a really tough game against Brentford, we managed a 1-1 draw and I received my first yellow card in football after a late tackle. I was also in the first team squad for games against MK Dons and Crewe but was an unused substitute.

So the first half of my first season is complete. I’ve started 8 games for the first team and been used as a sub in 2 others, completed 69% of my passes and I am yet to score a goal, my average rating across all competitions is 6.44. For the Doncaster Under 18’s team I have played 6 times, scored 2 goals, had 2 assists and have an average rating of 6.8.

Rovers Through To Northern Final

Doncaster Rovers are through to the Northern Area final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy after a convincing 2-0 victory over Coventry at The Keepmoat Stadium. Two goals in two minutes, one by Hulse and one from Painter, were enough to see Rovers through to face Accrington Final for a place in the Final at Wembley.

Rovers 17 year old midfielder Anthony Calibri got his first assist for Rovers and after speaking to him he sounded pleased with his efforts today, “It’s great for the team, we’ve played really well in this competition and we know now we are one step from Wembley. Personally I am so happy to grab my first assist, I love creating chances and goals so hopefully I can continue when given the chance.”
