I have played football manager as far back as 1998 and loved it. But since this steam issue has been included i cant say its worth it anymore.
I just bought FM 2013 and due to you requiring steam i cannot install.
I tried to and installation fails on the set up of steam.

FM2013 has included this useless game platform and has destroyed their name to make a profit.

Well done , you lose another lifelong customer and i am sure i am not the only one.

Can anyone suggest another manager game which has not been destroyed like this one.
Something else is a problem, if you can't install Steam. I don't see how the game is ruined, just because it requires Steam to run.
Most games that don't come out on steam now get heavily pirated, as well as profits decrease to a huge number. E.g. this indie dev didn't go on steam, and they got I think 90% of their games sold as pirated in the first week: http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2013-05-09/news/39144059_1_niko-bellic-pirates-patrick

I believe you are uninformed on this subject, as 1% of gamers would say that steam is destroying fm or any game by that matter, when it is the platform which allows an increase in the range, and allows newcomers to experience the game if they can't get a copy directly.

Steam is useful, and in about 7-8 years time when everything is digital new games wise, steam will be considred a pioneer in the modern age.

P.S steam can you send my check by mail :P
You don't have to use steam to play FM... and I believe steam is great, I haven't heard anyone besides you say it was bad so that doesn't back up your ' i am sure i am not the only one ' theory.
It might take some time to get used to it but once you up and running you"ll be fine .Steam is not bad at all its adapting to change that's challenging you gotta give it a chance .
I feel that the Steam system is a very useful part of FM now. It automatically updates your game when a new update is released, which saves you the hassle of having to search for a new update.
Steam has a lot of positives the only negative point i can think of is that you need an internet connection for it to update your games or to play them.
Even though there is the offline option you have to set steam to offline while online before it will work, but with nowadays technology of phones acting as a modem, this can still be fixed while traveling.

Anyway if you have problems with steam not sintalling maybe something else is wrong with your computer or laptop. Once that is solved installing FM goes faster then the old fashioned way which was through a disc, or atleast if your connection is average.

If you want another manager game however go to the EA version called Fifa Manager :D it's a great game *cough*
or try any of the web based manager games like hattrick or top eleven
I guess i am speaking from anger also in the fact that i have purchased this game 2 weeks ago and still cant play it.

Steam opens and begins downloading updates and halfway through a message appears saying i am not connected to the net when i am!

HELP
Understandable ,it can really be frustrating as all you want to do as the consumer who paid is play and now this....

what connection you using to internet wireless or cable ?

Not true, you can play steam in "Offline Mode" and play all your games as per normal (apart from the online ones obviously)
It means better online. Also the move to steam mean less pirates, mean more buy the game meaning more money to spend on features

You might want to read Randy's post carefully again :)
Really shocked to read how people are defending steam and not listening to mlimalia's argument. Steam has been brought in to make a profit by stopping illegal downloads. It has also added an extra annoyance to those who just want to play the game.

I have no beef with steam, good for them if they are paving the way, but for those who only want to play FM and not mess about with additional button pushing, they are just another third party making things more complicated. I guess this is how football is going, so why not include this in FM. Sad times ahead,
And yet there is no need for extra button pushing as i already explained, once you have the fm13 shortcut just click it and the game will start, steam will also start but it won't interfere or anything, it will just be there in the background.

And yet when you close fm13 and if there is an update available like yesterday, it will be updated right away which is very usefull. And why shouldn't SI try and find a way to prevent people from getting illegal copies? (Which are still available for fm13 but with bugs cause of no updates)

And you might have a point somewhere but i can't find it.
Your a cheeky fella RandydeB :)) I guess your used to missing the point. x
