A DM can make all the difference in a team if you use him wisely. Make sure he does not clash with the other midfielder, next to him. Make sure you use him mainly when the priority is to defend. Like bringing him on to ensure you keep the lead. Just one example of using a DM.
not really mate, its a bit more to what u said for a DM to do.
as u said DM is a bit more defending. But he is still a midfielder. He has the qualities of a midfielder like passing and such.
But they are also great fighters and can do good to win the ball and such.
The importance of a DM can be different. When a team is playing a flat midfielded 4-4-2 then u expect the CM's to be more balanced.
but when playing witha 4-4-2 diamond. Then the DM comes more handy as a DM.
Because in this case he has to make sure he has good positioning and such. He is the cover infront of the back four. And also the one to fill up at the back when the team is being counter attacked. in that way the AM can also keep himself more attacking all the time. and usually this formation is to get the more out of a midfielder who really just has attacking qualities.
But also when playing with a 4-4-2 diamond, u also give ur left and right back a bit more freedom going forward. But u also have 2 good left and righ midfielders, they have to work a bit more central when the team is defending as well. The both wingers cant be too attacking in this case either.
4-4-2 diamond is as i said to get more out of ur AM.
you can see Werder Bremen play the 4-4-2 diamond in real life.
they have Diego as their AM because they know he isnt good defensively they want him to control the counter attacks and be the attacking playmaker. He is usually also a bit "free roled" type of player.
But when u see this tactic deployed in real life for bremen, you can see that the left and the right wingers dont have too much freedom going to attack, they need to help out the defence. While they also have strikers that work hard as well. But with this tactic u wont be that good defensively on a bad day.
bremen are a really good team when they play attacking. But on some occasions they can have troubles as they are left exposed at the back.
but when they usually play good and attackingly (usually at home). then they will be able to put a lot of pressure on the opponent. as their back four is really high up and that their DM(frings) does a good job as a DM.
