Various top flight managers in reckoning for Liverpool job after Dalglish sacking

Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers is leading the list of candidates hoping to land the vacant position at Liverpool after the Merseyside club sacked Kenny Dalglish on Wednesday following a disappointing 8th place finish in the Premier League.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez, Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew and former Chelsea chief Andre Villas-Boas are also in the contention along with former Kop boss Rafa Benitez.

Liverpool legend Dalglish paid the price for the Reds' worst league points tally in 50 years, despite his Carling Cup triumph, and the Kop legend said he was disappointed with the axe.

"Of course I am disappointed with league results but I would not have swapped the Carling Cup win for anything," The Star quoted Dalglish, as saying.

"Whilst I'm obviously disappointed to be leaving, the matter has been handled by the owners in an honourable, respectful and dignified way," he added.

Dalglish made it clear he wanted to remain as manager, rather than consider a move upstairs, leaving owner John W Henry and Tom Werner's Fenway Sports Group with the decision to make.

Managing Liverpool is Sami Hyypia's Dream

One day, Rafa Benitez is certain he'll return to complete unfinished business by once again taking up the managerial reigns at Liverpool Football Club once again. One day, too, most think Jamie Carragher will end up with a coaching role that could well lead to him eventually managing the club.

If either is to do so, not only will they have to worry about a too-successful Brendan Rodgers holding onto the job, but according to Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller, they'll have to contend with a man poised to lead his side back into the Champions League. "Sami has all the ingredients to become a great coach," Voller told Sky Deutschland when asked about first-year manager Sami Hyypia. "The only problem is that at some point he will go to Liverpool. This is his dream." Leverkusen currently finished third in the Bundesliga on 53 points, putting them seven ahead of Schalke and eight ahead of SC Frieburg in the Bundesliga season.

Hyypia Appointed Liverpool Boss

Former Liverpool defender Sami Hyypia has been named as the permanent manager of Gthe club

The Finn was appointed caretaker boss of the club in early April and secured four wins and two draws in his six games in charge.

Now Hyypia, has signed a three-year deal with Liverpool.

"Although we did not know each other beforehand and only had little time to develop a concept, the last weeks the club and I were successful," said the Reds legend.

"For Liverpool to now give me a chance to carry on what Kenny started is a great show of faith.

"We are convinced that, with this team and with these colleagues, we will be able to play a good role both at home and abroad in future.''

Steven Gerrard added: "Sami has played at the highest level in Europe for 10 years and, in his last two years as a player with Leverkusen, he left a very good impression.

"He was made to coach a team and he will certainly take Liverpool forwards in his new role together .''

Hyypia made 464 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 35 goals, during his 10-year stay at Anfield between 1999 and 2009.
Good Luck! :D

Liverpool sign Insigne for 8.75 million and Jack Robinson

He is currently 21 years of age and has made one appearance for the Italian national team. The lad is shorter than Lionel Messi but he possesses loads of talent and skill. He generally hugs the touchline when receiving the ball but he is very effective at linking up with central players. This is because he is quick, dribbles effectively and can shoot well with both feet which means that he can confuse defenders with his movement. Unfortunately this trait of being able to use both feet effectively is lacking in the talented Suso at the moment, therefore Insigne will replace Suso in the front line.

Last season, Napoli lost Ezequiel Lavezzi to PSG and Insigne has filled in his vacant position perfectly. He has a similar skill set to Lavezzi but he is a more clinical finisher and he also links well with the central striker (Edinson Cavani) and the attacking midfielder (Marek Hamsik). This is a definite quality that Liverpool need, in terms of having another forward to link up with Suarez because Sterling is still a bit raw in terms of allowing Suarez to create opportunities for him and vice versa. However he is only 17 and he will definitely get better with age

Agger Out For Two Months

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger could be out for up to 8 weeks after he twisted an ankle in Sunday's 2-0 Premier League win at Everton.

The Denmark international sustained the injury when he fell heavily in the first half and had to be substituted before half-time. However, there are contrasting reports on the extent of the injury.

The Liverpool manager told the club's website that "Daniel has got a damaged ankle, so he's struggling a bit". However, the version offered by Agger's agent Per Steffensen differs.

Steffensen told sporten.tv2.dk: "It's the worst possible news. He has twisted hsi ankle, and he must keep still for 6 weeks. Daniel is way down now and I certainly sympathise with him.

Also in that game Glen Johnson came off with concussion and will be out for two weeks causing Hyypia to sign Joestxo on a free transfer as cover.

The Merseyside derby win follows a win against Sunderland and leaves Liverpool 2nd on goal difference in the league

Reina: I understand Suarez's Position

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has backed Luis Suarez's decision to quit Anfield this year.

The Spain international admits he would rather the club's star striker stayed on Merseyside, but says he 'understands' his team-mate's decision to look for a move away.

Suarez rocked Liverpool by revealing he wants to leave following a 2-0 defeat to West Ham this week, citing what he feels as his unfair treatment from the media as a key reason behind his decision.

And Reina admits he sympathises with the Uruguay international, saying: 'We've seen in the past that they [the media] have been difficult for him and for his family.

'To be honest, I would like for Luis to stay at Liverpool but I understand if he is thinking about leaving for a bigger club.

'When I say bigger I don't mean as a club. I mean challenging for titles, playing in the Champions League and competing with the best.

'Because of his situation and because of his treatment by the media. It would have been difficult for any player, not just for Luis, to stay strong and be happy to play.

'Hopefully, as I say, he will stay at Liverpool for many years. But I would understand, if the right offer comes for him and for the club, for him to go.'

Reina himself has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, with Barcelona and Arsenal known to be keen on the goalkeeper.

But the Spaniard, who is currently with the national team preparing for the Confederations Cup, insists the speculation over his future does not bother him.

'The speculation has never been a distraction for me, my mind is in Liverpool 100 per cent. The speculation is something you cannot control. I can guarantee you that my future is with Liverpool right now.
