Martyn appointed by Leeds United
Former England and Leeds United goalkeeper Nigel Martyn is officially the new manager of Leeds United following Neil Warnock's departure from the West Yorkshire side. Martyn previously made 207 appearances for United between their Premier League years of 1996-2003 having previously played for Bristol Rovers and Crystal Palace. Recently sacked Reading manager Brian McDermott looked to be the new man for Leeds but Leeds' owners GFH Capital unexpectedly handed the job to the 23-time England international. Martyn hasn't had much experience at a staff level, with being goalkeeping coach and caretaker manager at Bradford City in 2007. "I am delighted to be back at Leeds, I think we all remember our Premiership years, I want to relive those moments, this time as a manager. I want to be a leader at Leeds. We've been undeservedly outside the top-flight for too long and I think not only Leeds fans will like us back in the top-flight"
Leeds United chairman Salah Nooruddin has welcomed Martyn back at Elland Road saying "I was just starting out at GFH when Leeds were in their best years, me, David (Haigh) and Salem (Patel) all want a return to those years as soon as possible and I believe Nigel, who played in those years can get us back to where Leeds belongs"
