Why have I chosen The Hornets

Now you may be wondering why I have created yet another story, I don't blame you. There are a couple of reasons why I've started this story. I just wasn't enjoying the Al Jazira story at all and I felt like I was forcing myself to update. Firstly, when I stopped my Thierry Henry story, Watford was the team I wanted to be next and write a story about. However I decided to wait until the season ended to see what possible storyline I could use. Secondly, Watford narrowly missed out on promotion last season, loosing the playoff final to Palace. I would like to get them into the premier league. Thirdly, and most importantly, Watford is my local club! :) I'm hoping I can get all your support like in my previous stories!

Meet the gaffer

The gaffer in this story is one of the best managers ever to set foot in the premier league in my opinion. Currently in real life he's unemployed. He was sacked controversially by Sunderland, who have now appointed Pablo Di Canio as their manager.

Have you guessed yet? I think you're right, its Martin O'Neil.

Good luck
Good Luck! Glad to see Martin O'Neill jumping around like a lunatic again, this time at the loan Kings of Vicarage Road
Don't like Watford fans but like their style of play, good luck Seni :)
cheers guys :)

Its great to be back!

Following the recent resignation of Giafranco Zola, which has lead to the appointment of Northen Irish manager, Martin O'Neill, the new Watford gaffer has expressed his happiness in being back in the game. Sunderland controversially dismissed O'Neill following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United. Many felt they made a huge mistake.

Earlier today we spoke to new Watford FC boss himself about how he felt about his recent appointment to The Hornets, here's what he said:

" Its an incredible feeling to be back in the game of not only management but football too. To be honest, since I left Sunderland, its been quite tough knowing that I no longer have a job doing what I love best. Now I've taken a bit of a break from the game and I'm raring to go. Watford is a great club that narrowly missed out on promotion and hopefully this year the club will not."

We also asked O'Neill if he felt he was dismissed harshly by Sunderland, and he didn't hold back in his words:

" Was I sacked harshly? Well I think you could say that, its arguable. We weren't doing to bad in the league when I got dismissed. Things like this happen in football and you've just got to be professional about it and move on like I have done now."

Finally we asked Martin O'Neill if he was contacted by any other clubs while he was unemployed and whether he has ever considered coaching outside of England:

" A few teams did contact me, but I'll respect that they wouldn't want to be mentioned. I turned them down, because at that time I wasn't ready to go straight back into management. I needed a bit of a break. Have I ever considered managing outside of England? Yes I have, but its very unlikely for me. How many Northern Irish/English/Scottish/Welsh manager do you see managing outside Great Britain. I don't know of many, or possibly any. The premier league is the best league in the world, I love English football and I want to manage in England.."

Watford fans will be delighted that they managed to acquire such an experienced and talented manager in Martin O'Neill as once again they aim for promotion.
May we have a Charlie in this story

O'Neill brings in duo on loan

Despite only joining the North London side days ago, Martin O'Neill has already done some transfer business. Watford, being a championship side, don't have the greatest transfer budget. According to sky sources, The Hornets have a transfer budget of roughly 4 million.

Last season, Watford brought in a total of ten players on loan, including Matej Vydra, who is currently on loan at West Brom. All the players were from their sister clubs, Udinese and Granada. Many criticized Watford's loan system last season, but former manager Giafranco Zola defended his side on many occasions.

Under Football League rules, sides are only allowed to name five loan players in a matchday squad and can only take two players on a standard loan from any one club. In this case, you could say Watford broke the rules.

However, loan deals arranged with foreign teams are recognised as transfers, meaning there is no limit to the number of loanees from overseas. Therefore, Watford were not actually doing anything wrong.

Nineteen year old, Yaya Sanogo and Twenty two year old Marc Albrighton will spend the upcoming season at Watford on loan. O'Neill will be pleased that he managed to bring the two players to Vicarage road, as he looks to strengthen his side that just fell short of promotion.

Sanogo recently signed for Arsenal on a free transfer from AJ Auxerre who only just gained promotion to Ligue 1. The young Frenchman had a good time at the U20 world cup, helping France win the competition in Turkey. In fact, he was France's top goal-scorer with four goals to his name. Sanogo has represented his nation at U16, U17 and U19 level. The player himself will be hoping to gain some first team experience at Watford.

Meanwhile, Albrighton is the more experienced player, having spent a total of years playing for Aston Villa and in England. In the two previous seasons, the young man made a total of 55 appearances, an impressive thing to do at such a young age. Many will be wondering why Albrighton has been let out on loan. At this point in time he is down the pecking order at Villa. The loan will allow the player keep match fit and get further first team experience, something a player of his age long for.

Right now, it is not clear if Watford will still bring in a few more players in. Its unlikely for The Hornets to actually sign someone with cash, due to the inflated prices in the transfer market nowadays and their little transfer budget, but you never know, this is football, anything could happen.
A great start to the story. Good luck for the coming season.
Two great signings there! Good luck :)
Great signings to help you push for promotion. Good luck!
Good start mate, keep it up! :)
OOOO 2 nice signings :P
Thank you guys for the early support :D
