Drama In Madrid!

There was drama in Madrid today, as there has been a confirmation from the Santiago Bernabeu that Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has been given the sack by chairman Florentino Perez. Mourinho, who hails from Portugal, was unveiled as Real Madrid manager in May 2010, when he succeeded Manuel Pellegrini in the hot seat, and has an impressive but at the same time, unimpressive record from his time at Madrid. In the 10-11 season, he guided the club to their first Copa Dey Rel trophy for 18 years, which was also the clubs first trophy since the club won La Liga in 07-08. Mourinho had also guided Madrid to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League that same season, the clubs furthest advancement in the tournament since the 2003 semi-finals, before being knocked out Barcelona, who went on to win the trophy against Manchester United at Wembley stadium. In the 11-12 season, the club had again for the 2nd consecutive season, reached the Champions League semi-finals, before losing on penalties to Bayern Munich. That season also saw Madrid win the La Liga title for the first time since 07-08, and also achieving the record for the most number of points achieved in a single La Liga season, with a total of 100 points.
Fans may feel that the decision to sack Mourinho was harsh, but in a statement on the club website, Perez said, "We thank Jose for his two years of service to the club, but we felt we needed a change in management at the club if we are to progress and hopefully go on and win the Champions League. Jose has the quality to do that, but unfortunately, there were off the field issues with the repeated articles about bust ups with the players and we need a manager who can form a bond with each and every one of his players, so there are no riffs or discomforts in the squad. Morale must be kept high and i ensure the fans that we will bring in a suitable manager to help the club rebuild the Galacticos."
