I appreciate the concern, Sevannime. The matches will start pretty soon, and then you'll see how fast I go. Right now, the amount of detail is necessary, not when the matches begin.
I won't be stopping this story till FM13 comes out.
Thank you for reading :)

I've spent the last forty minutes or so, outside a small conference room where Kurt Zouma's agent, Destin Ningamba and, my coach, Gian Nicola Biscotti, and the middle-man, Jim Lager are discussing contractual terms. After initially being adamant about being present during the contract negotiations, I had to be explained by Gian that it wasn't really in my job description to negotiate deals. When the Azpiliceuta deal got cancelled because of unreasonable agent fees, surely there would've been some raised eyebrows, but the board trusted my decision to not go over the limit. If I was somehow involved in a second failed negotiations on the same day, that could've been deemed unacceptable. Besides, after the initial distrust and rage shown by the Italian, this was his turn to make up for the misconduct.

While I looked out from a window on the far end of the corridor, I noticed a hoard of press reporters fighting one another for a good spot for the scheduled press conference. Suddenly, all of them started running in the direction of the parking lot, jostling for position better than professional footballers. It was pretty evident - our first signing of the season, Lucas Digne, was on his way to the stadium. While I looked on, waiting to meet my new player for the very first time, the conference room door opened. Ningamba was the first to walk out, giving me two thumbs-up - that was a positive sign, unless that meant something else in Central Africa. He was followed by Lager and Biscotti, the former walking towards me with an extended hand.
"Congratulations, Mr. Vidyasagar, Kurt Zouma will soon officially be a Manchester United player". Biscotti gave me a affirmative nod as I shook Lager's hand. "Shall we go and start off the press conference, boss? Lucas has already arrived", said Gian, before leading the way towards the exit.

The French Connection

Standing with Lucas Digne by my side, in front of flashing cameras and shouting reporters, I tap the microphone to check whether it is on, and making sure everyone has my attention.

"Members of the media, I would like to formally announce the signings of Lille hot-prospect, Lucas Digne, to Manchester United. I am delighted to welcome Lucas into our ranks, and we believe he can reach the height of his potential at our club", I said, before looking at a journalist standing in front of the large group, raising his hand. He proceeds to ask, "Hello, this is Patrick Collins from Mail au dimanche. My question is - Lucas had mentioned prior to leaving his former team that he wanted first-team action. Will he be in your first-team plans in the new season?"

I looked at our new acquisition, then Biscotti, before placing a hand on the former's shoulder. "With Fabio going on loan, Lucas will be our back up left back to Patrice, once he learns the tempo and style of the English game. We are confident in his ability to step up when required."

"You mentioned Lucas replacing Patrice Evra, who is your current vice-captain. Did you particularly look for a French left-back as the perfect replacement?", said Jacques Pritt, from a sports magazine, with a wide smile on his face. I replied, also maintaining a smile, "Of course not. Your country just happened to produce 'the next Patrice Evra', and I wouldn't let him go that easily, knowing how talented Patrice is. He will be helping Digne settle into the club and mentor him off the pitch as well. It will be a good learning experience for the youngster."

"And sir, could you tell us, if you don't mind me asking, why this press conference is at Stade Geoffroy Guichard instead of Carrington or Old Trafford?", asked a young female reporter, obviously more fluent in French than English. "Well, Lucas Digne isn't the only player we are here to talk about. We have also agreed terms with AS Saint-Etienne youth player, Kurt Zouma, which I am sure you were already aware of. After finalizing the deal, we thought it was necessary for the French media and public to know of our new French connection, which we are in France itself."

"Manchester United have a history of having faith in youngsters and signing them on longer contracts than most teams. Have you maintained that tradition?", asked an experienced journalist from the Times. "Yes, certainly. We have signed up both players on four-year contracts, and we expect them to stay at United for a long time.", I replied and left the dias to Biscotti who took the remaining questions.
Seems like Biscotti is your henchman!!! lol. cool though!!!
Interesting. I'm just not sure if a Man Utd player would announce his new signings in a foreign country...
i think because u do all this fiction, your driving away from matches, because we need some matches to see ur manager style!
#63321 sevannime : Seems like Biscotti is your henchman!!! lol. cool though!!!
I signed Biscotti purely because an Italian coach gives a Godfather feel to the game.

#63322 Gurdit : Interesting. I'm just not sure if a Man Utd player would announce his new signings in a foreign country...
They do..now I that I am manager ;)
Actually, I didn't want to drag this one into another post, so I just it done in France itself.

..but my fiction side is still good, right? I will start posting matches immediately after this post.

Thank you for reading and commenting, guys..except you Gurdit.

Oi, bugger you! I'll stop commenting if that's what you want! :P
Oh, and get a move on ... I know I'm struggling with my story's pace too, but I think you should start moving a little faster sometime soon.

Determined Set Of Youngsters

7th July 2011

I walk into Carrington, our training facility, to watch the boys warming up, doing stretches and running about with the ball. Mike Phelan calls them in, when he notices my presence near the corner flag. I walked onto the ground, went down on one knee and touched the grass with my index finger - a routine from my playing days. The boys made a huddle around me, the tall figures of Vidic and Berbatov towering over me.
"Listen, boys, this isn't an actual match. Just because it lasts more than our normal training matches doesn't mean you do something reckless. I don't want anyone unnecessarily jumping into tackles and injuring themselves, and I certainly don't want any of you to injury your opponents. You eighteen have taken eighteen almost-guaranteed places in the first-team, and the boys from the reserves want to take the remaining spots. They are going to be playing out of their skins to impress me and the coaches, and also you, but I want you to take it easy. Keep it simple and let's try out some of our new tactics. Paul (Scholes), Michael (Carrick) and Rio, I want you to help out the reserves along with Mike (Phelan)"

First-Team Starting Line-Up: De Gea, Rafael, Vidic, Evans, Evra, Jones, Anderson, Hernandez, Kagawa, Nani, Rooney.
Reserve Squad Starting Line-Up: Lindegaard, M.Keane, Wootton, Thorpe, Blackett, Bebe, Tunnicliffe, Powell, Brady, Welbeck, Henriquez.

Danny Welbeck 22'
- A freekick taken by Lindegaard from his own box caught the first-team central defenders napping, allowing Welbeck to take the ball on his chest, turn towards goal and chip it over an approaching De Gea to help the reserves take the lead.

Wayne Rooney 38'
- Vidic shows his dominance in the air, clearing the ball into the path of Rooney in the center of the pitch, who has a one-two with Nani on the left-wing. This gets Michael Keane on his wrong foot, giving Rooney enough space to slot the ball past Lindegaard, tying the scores up.

Angelo Henriquez 39'
- A minute after Rooney's strike, Bebe and Welbeck combine well on the right-wing for the reserves before the former crosses the ball into the far post. Rafael, 5'8", and Henriquez, 5'9", jump for the ball, with the Chilean 17-year old coming on top. De Gea had no chance of saving that header.

When the half-time whistle blew, the players rested on the pitch, both teams acting as one, sitting together in one large circle. David Friio, my French scout, came upto me with a notepad, with the proper strengths and weaknesses of our two new signings. They still had a couple of weeks before arrival, but it was good to know what areas we will have to work on.

Kurt Zouma

Lucas Digne

Changes before the second-half:
Jonny Evans Chris Smalling
Javier Hernandez Tom Cleverley

The second half remained largely uninteresting, the game going at leisurely pace. All three new tactics were tried out on both teams and the goal was to maintain their defensive shape, which was achieved to near perfection. Substitutions took place, giving Young and Berbatov their chance in the game, but the score remained the same.

Final Score:
Manchester United First Team 1-2 Manchester United Reserves & Youth

Who impressed:

Phil Jones
- Surely would've picked up the 'Man of the Match', if there was one. I was undecided before the match about whether he would do well as a defensive midfielder, but he did exceptionally well as the anchor man in midfield.

Andres Lindegaard
- To say his team won purely because of him would be a mistake, but he certainly played a big role in the match. Saved a couple of certain goals, denying Hernandez and Rooney with some magnificent saves. I will have to rethink his position in the team.

Wayne Rooney
- Nobody expected him to have a bad game today, and he played very well - initially as a striker and later dropping into midfield. He will have to shoulder a lot of responsibility if we are to do well this season.

Danny Welbeck & Angelo Henriquez
- A strike partnership that had me licking my lips thinking about our future. These two were absolutely sensational. Angelo, especially, gave Evans a torrid time, and even though he didn't speak the same language as Danny, their communicate was a joy to behold.
Good writing, it's keeping me hooked. I didn't get bored of reading it, so that's a good sign. I like the personal touch you added about the ritual with going down on one knee and touching the grass. It's delightful. It's like a real story.

The Travelling Begins

9th July, 2011

Royal Antwerp FC, a Belgian Second League team, has been Manchester United's affiliate for the past two years. Manchester United players from non-European Union nations are sent to Antwerp on loan to gain Belgian nationality and be able to play in England. The most recent player sent to Antwerp was Charni Ekangamene, who I definitely want to feature in tonight's game against his old club for nostalgia purposes.
As we stand in the dugout, the match moments away from starting, Mike Phelan, my assistant manager, informs me that our Brazilian expert, John Calvert-Toulmin and our man management expert, John Cooke were finalizing a deal with Brazilian youngster, Cidinho. Sir Alex Ferguson had personally asked the scout to bring the youngster down to Manchester for a trial, but when that wasn't an option, we structured a deal for Cidinho after watching a lot of his match tapes.
"Looks like we've finished off our transfer shopping within the first week of the window, Mike", I said to my coach, while we walked out from the dugout into Bousil Stadium. Even though the Belgian crowd was aware we weren't going to field our strongest outfit, a 14,000 strong crowd had come to witness the match. This match wasn't going into any record books, but this was my first ever match in front of any kind of crowd and a television audience. Just three years ago, I was standing on that pitch, leading a young club as their captain, and now, I was leading Manchester United onto the pitch as manager.

Royal Antwerp FC VS Manchester United

Manchester United Line-Up
: Lindegaard, Massacci, Ferdinand, Smalling, Ekangamene, Giggs, Scholes, Valencia, Cleverley, Welbeck, Berbatov.

Rio Ferdinand 2'
- Most of the players weren't even into the game, but Ferdinand was in the right position, at the right time to convert an in-swinging corner from Ryan Giggs.

Davide Petrucci 87'
- Following great run from the left wing, second-half substitute Joshua King fooled the Antwerp keeper into thinking he was taking a shot, and passed it to attacking midfielder Davide Petrucci, who finished off the move with a side-foot into an open-goal.

Final Score: Royal Antwerp FC 0-2 Manchester United

Who Impressed/Who Made Me Depressed:

Rio Ferdinand - A solid performance topped off with a goal, Rio made a very good comeback from injury and marshaled the troops to victory. Him partnering Smalling made a huge difference as the English hopeful looked confident and strong playing with the veteran by his side.

Paul Scholes - Not a very good performance by Paul Scholes, when he should've controlled the midfield. Making a lot of non-winnable tackles, he could've easily been sent off if this was a competitive game.

Sam Johnstone - Coming on in the second-half, replacing Lindegaard in goal, he didn't have a lot of saves to make, but he remained focused and aligned his defence to avoid Antwerp from penetrating it.

Opponent Watch:

Romeo Van Dessel - Romeo's defending really caught my eye, as he went toe-to-toe with the likes of Berbatov and later, Nick Powell. Although he isn't really going to drastically improve his game, now at twenty-three, I can see him being a very important player for Antwerp in the league this season.
with such low detail about the matches, i would have said that was crap but considering all the fiction work you put in, they compliment each other brilliantly. keep it up. low detail in match, high detail in off the pitch, because in some aspects, off the pitch really affects how a team plays. Keep it up!!!. If there was story of the week, u would be up there with Packets Porters!!!!!1

* Before starting this save, I made sure all my previous save games were deleted, so I didn't overwrite this game with some other one (since I have done that before). Also, having a dodgy battery, I made sure I save every 6-8 games to ever avoid quitting without saving. Even after all these precautions, when I started my game today, I noticed it had somehow restarted itself, completely wiping off everything I had done in the first season (my signings, my matches and everything else).

* Of course, since I hadn't typed anything out in the story yet, I am surely continuing this, signing the same players and hoping for good results. There were a couple of differences in this game, which I am not going to go back and edit.

*My match against Reserves so much more successful this time, winning 4-0, but the most important change is Kurt Zouma's asking price. Since Real Madrid were also rumoured to be interested in the player from the start, I had to pay nearly 10 Million, a large change from the GBP 4.8 Million I had paid for him before.

*This save will go on.
Aw damn, that really sucks. I end up saving my game pretty much after every match or two, just to be on the safe side. I've also got a 3-week rolling save enabled. Try that out.

But overall, though, from a story standpoint, you haven't lost much. Though you probably lost your season, which sucks.

If you want to be extra cautious, you should maybe have 2 saves of the same game, although that does seem like overkill.
you should write a book or something, intense fiction based story mate! and it sucks that thing you had to restart the save.. dont give up! that's the important stuff man ;)
