I am very mindful of talking on a subject about a fellow "content creator" (god, I loathe that term), but I do have some thoughts to add.
Okay, that was more than I expected.
- There are very few rules for what is required to upload a tactic. Generally, I would say this is a good thing. Nobody wants to create unnecessary barriers for users to share their ideas. That knock-on effect is that you are not necessarily going to get consistent standards across all submissions, but that again shouldn't be a problem, because nobody is forced to download every submission. We can look at the upload and decide for ourself whether we want to download it.
- I am a firm believer in leading by example. To me, that means submissions should be a reflection of what I like/want to see - which in the case of recreations involve breaking down the real life tactic and evidencing the throughput into what is created within FM. It is also my responsibility to build up those that I think are also providing quality content. It doesn't, however, mean trying to tear others down.
- A voting system akin to YouTube's much maligned upvote-only approach could be a good way of allowing users to signify submissions they like, and create a useful search filter for users (popularity). Depending on technical capabilities, it could even be used to power a little carousel at the top of the tactics page which could have a mixture of most popular, most recent and editor's choice, which could address anyone's concern about upload times unduly influencing positioning. That may add unnecessary difficulty to your life, though, Stam!
- Alternatively, could there be consideration for "Premium" tactics or some other marketing nonsense. Not hidden behind a paywall, but submissions that meet a more stringent testing-criteria with robust, agreed-upon standards could be highlighted as being of a higher standard. This would reinforce the idea of addressing quality concerns in a positive way as well as provide users with clear ways of identifying those with greater detail.
Okay, that was more than I expected.
