Wigan win on Europa league debut night
Wigan defeated the odds to beat strong Turkish side, Besiktas, 1-0. The English club were making their Europa League debut on the night, much to the delight of chairmen, Dave Whelan. Wigan qualified for the competition by beating Premier League 2011/12 season winners, Manchester City, 1-0 thanks to the late Ben Watson goal.
As the game kicked off, Wigan looked nervous and that shown in the 1st half, as 2 major chances for Besiktas were saved by new signing Scott Carson, who was bought from fellow Turkish team, Bursaspor. Besiktas looked the strongest throughout the 1st half, but the team went in at 0-0.
