LOSC Lille- The Return of Les Douges

Alright guys, Football Manager 14 is here, and that means a new story I know that I just created a FM13 story, but the new game is out and that means a new story. This will the exact opposite of the Stuttgart story. It will a much more serious story, and I'll make sure the writing is the best quality possible. Without further ado, let's get into the story

Who am I

I am Marcel Desailly, legendary French and Ghanaian defender. I was born in Accra and moved to France when I was 4. I joined the Nantes youth system and played on the same youth team as France Coach Dider Deschamps. After playing 162 games with Nantes, I moved on to Marseilles and won the Champions League. I was not at Marseilles long. A.c. Milan showed an interest in picking up a strong sweeper and Center back like me. At Milan, I won the Champions League again, scoring in the process. I became the first player to win the Champions League twice in a row with 2 different clubs. During my time at Milan, I won 2 Serie A Scudettos. Although Milan often played me in my preferred Sweeper role, they sometimes moved me up to Holding Midfield. During my time at Milan, I became a French International. I started at Center Back for France. SOme were angered at my decision to play for France because I was born in Ghana. However, I feel totally French and I feel to this day that my choice was the right one. In my final year at Milan, 1998, I participated in the World Cup. I was an important part of the French team that won the World Cup then, although I was sent off in the final. After the world cup, I moved to England to play for Chelsea. They payed 4.6 million pounds for me, and I captained their side. In my 6 years at Chelsea, I won one major trophy, that being the F.A. Cup in 2000. In 20000, I was part of the French team who won the Euros. After the tournament, I was made the Captain of the French Side. One year after that tournament success, I added the Confederations Cup to my trophy cabinet. In 2004, I retired from International Football and went to Qatar. I won a league title there before retiring. I then became a pundit for the BBC, and I was part of the media setup in both World Cup 2006 and World Cup 2010. Now, I'm ready for a new challenge.

Who are the Team?

I will be managing LOSC Lille, a French Team who play in the Ligue 1, the first division of French Football. LOSC Lille was formed as a result of the two French Clubs Olympique Lillois and SC Fives. Lillois was the inaugural winners of the French league. Lille have won 3 league titles, in 1946, 1954, and 2011 and six Coupe De French Titles. In the first 10 years of their existence, Lille won 2 league titles. This period of time was called the Glorious Decade. In between 1956 and 1980, Lille tanked, and was relegated in 1956. They did get promoted, but they were constantly either a mid-table side or a Bottom Feeder. 1980 to 2000 was more obscurity, but Lille rose back into the scene with a bang in the 21st century. Under new owner Michel Seydoux, Lille booked a place in the 2001 Champions league. After that, Lille became a regular on the continental stage, and they developed a reputation as Giant-Killers. During the 21st century, Lille have beaten Man Utd, Liverpool, and Milan in the Champions League. In 2011, the coveted Ligue 1 title came back to Lille, thanks to an incredible season from Belgian starlet Eden Hazard. Sadly for Lille, Hazard left for Chelsea, and Lille started it's decline once more. Lille finished 6th in 2012-2013.

Turmoil in Lille

LOSC Lille fired their manager, Rene Girard this morning after he finished 6th in a disappointing season for the french club. Lille did not qualify for the continent, and 2 important players, Lucas Digne and Dimitri Payet were sold, to PSG and Marseille respectively. The owner of the club lost patience with Girad today, and his contract was terminated. Michael Seydoux announced the firing at a conference this morning. He told Canal Sport that "Girad was a great servant of the club but it was obviously time for him to move on. We hope we can replace Rene with someone who can bring the spark that we so obviously need." Lille could really use a spark, as Canal had them 7th in their projected table. Their title odds are 50/1. Lille fans have taken to Social Media to express their discontent for Remi Girad and the current state of the club. #Giradisout is trending on twitter in France.

Lille supporters haven't had to wait long for the announcement of their new manager, as Marcel Desailly was appointed manager. The former center defender has 116 caps for France and he will look to apply his experience as a manager to the Lille job. Desailly, 45, worked for several broadcasting outlets, including the BBC and our very own Canal Plus. Desailly was unveiled as manager just half and hour ago, and he told the press that he was "honored to be at such a great club with such great people" and that he was confident that he could help the club qualify for the Champions League. Marcel is rumored to have about 12 and half million euros available, which will most likely be spent on a striker. Marcel will have is work cut out for him, as his attack force is not the most impressive. Solomon Kalou, Ryan Mendes De Graca, and Tulio De Melo won't do the job for Marcel. Marcel's next press conference is scheduled for next week, so tune in to Canal Sport for more exclusive news.

Tactics



My tactics at LOSC Lille are similar to the ones I usually use, the 4-5-1, with emphasis on retaining possession. The team will play at a high tempo, and will try to break down defenses with threatening passes.

Goalkeeper- The Goalkeeper is the standard goalkeeper, not a sweeper keeper.

Fullbacks: The fullbacks I have right now aren't very talented, so they'll play the limited fullback role and defend.

Centerbacks- Both will be standard Center Backs that will attempt to defend. Everything they do will be to avoid getting scored on. They won't be involved in the offense.

Holding mid- The holding mid will be a ball winning midfielder, who will try to thwart the oppositions attack before it gets started.

Center Mids- One of the center midfielder will be a box to box midfielder, who will be the workhorse of the team. He will be passing to teammates and winning the ball back if the attackers lose the ball. The other center mid will be a deep lying play maker, who will attempt to play Killer balls and split open the oppositions defense. Both will be supporting the attack.

Wingers: The left winger will be an insider forward who will attempt to cut in and score goals. He will be one of the primary attackers. The right winger will be a Winger. He will support the attack and try to find the striker.

Striker: The Striker will be a target man, whose main goal it is to get the ball and score goals. He won't dribble too much, or pass often. To stay on the team sheet, all the target man has too do is shoot.

Preseason



Overview

It was an up and down preseason for Lille. We dominated most of the games in, but we struggled to find the back of the net in games where we needed to finish most. We were wildly inconsistent, which is a huge problem. We need to start winning quick, because a slow start could mean the end of my job. If my new tactic doesn't work out, I'll have to create something more counter attack based. Perhaps that will change our fortunes.

In-Depth



Our first match was a lackluster game against Tigres. Both sides couldn't find the back of the net, but we were the better side for most of the game. We out-shot them 20 to 7, but our finishing let us down and we were unable to pull out a result. On a worse note, we had 11 fouls and 2 yellow cards. In the Ligue 1, that could cost us.



Our second friendly also ended in a draw. We played Genoa in a game that as boring as could be. Both shots had just 4 shots on target, and both had over 10 fouls. It was hard to settle into the game because the players on the pitch were constantly changing. In fact, Genoa had just 1 player who played the full 90 minutes. Our goal was scored by 25 year old Nolan Roux, who's finishing leaves much to be desired.



The third friendly we had was against German Bundesliga side Hannover. The Germans were completely outplayed by us. We had 56% of the ball and 21 shots to Hannover's 9 shots, and that payed off, as we gained our first win of the preseason. Tulio De Melo gave us the lead just 4 minutes in, before Jan Schlaudraff equalized just 6 minutes later. However, Lille and Solomon Kalou were not to be denied. Kalou scored 2 goals in 2 minutes in the 37th and the 39th minute. Mame Diouf managed to pull one back in the in the 58th minute, but It would prove to be nothing more than a consolation goal.



Our 4th game of the preseason was against Valladolid, the Liga BBVA side. This game was a terrible game for us, and we played extremely poorly, in a game we really should of won. Vallidolid out shots us and had more of the ball than we did, so we certainly deserved to lose. However, the fashion we did lose in was very bizarre. It started in the 16th minute with Julian Jeanvier heading the ball right past his own keeper. That was frustrating to say the least, but it looked like we had come back when Tulio De Melo finished his breakaway in the 20th minute. Omar Wade looked to have won it in the 56th minute with his magnificent strike from outside the box, but Javi Guerra ruined our chance at even one point with his quickfire brace in the 77th and 84th minute.



Our 5th game this preseason was against Portugalete, a side that lacked in quality certainly. That was immediately evident when Nolan Roux ran past 3 defenders to score a brilliant one-man goal. A sending off in the 26th minute certainly didn't help the Portuguese club, and Nolan Roux capitalized right away in the 30th minute. Marvin Martin would make the game 3-0 just two minutes later. The rout would be complete later on when two fringe players just got their chance at made the most of it. The final score would be 5-0. WE had 23 shots and 66% possession.



Our 6th and final game this preseason was against Orihuela. David Rosenhal won a penalty in the 5th minute, and calmly converted to gave us a 1-0 lead. Pape Souare doubled our lead in the 12th minute. However, that would be all for the scoring, and the game finished 2-0, with Lille having 15 shots and 50% possession of the ball.

We were wildly inconsistent over the course of the preseason

Player of the Month

Our player of the month is.....................

Nolan Roux, who scored 3 goals in 4 appearances (3 starts, 1 sub in). He ended the preseason with a 7.63 match rating.

Lille splash cash on Bosnian Stud

Michel Desaily just took the time to announce a new signing, the Bosnian Striker Vedad Ibsevic for 10 million euros. Ibesivic scored 15 goals in 30 games last season for Stuttgart, and his goal scoring prowess will be welcomed with open arms at Lille. Vedad is a huge aerial threat, and he can finish a breakaway better than anyone on the Lille team at the moment. However, he's not much more than that, and I get the feeling that the 29 year old might just be a temporary striker. However, Desaily looked delighted that the former Stuttgart man signed on at Lille during his unveiling today. Desaily told nearby reporters that he was "Delighted that such and excellent striker joined such an excellent club today." Ibesivic also looked happy to be back in the Ligue 1. His last spell in France was in 2006 with Dijon. Ibesivic told reporters that "I'm proud to be the striker of a team that I'm sure will get into the Champions League". Lille will get thier first test in the Ligue 1 on Saturday, against FC Lorient. From there, they take on Stade de Reims and Saint-Etitenne, games where Ibesivic will need to step up in order for Lille to take the 3 points that they desire.

August Update, Struggling

Overview



It's official, we have carried over our inconsistency from the preseason to the Ligue 1. We started out playing fantastic football, moving the ball well, and finishing our opportunities. From there, It just went down hill. I've decided to employ a new tactic, I know I have to shake the team up. I just don't know how. The team lacks the play maker, the Enganche, if you will. In January, I'm going to try and acquire that Enganche. But we don't have the money right now, and I need to figure something out fast, or I might not last until January.

In-Depth



Before going out into this match, I told the team that we needed to get the Season started on the right foot. And that's exactly what we did against Lorient. We finished, and that's something we couldn't do as well as I had hoped in the rest of the month. In the 4th minute, Florent Balmont floated in a cross right onto the head of Marko Basa, who slipped the ball past the keeper at the near post. For the second goal, It was Balmont again, finding the head of Ibesivic, who rifled the header into the back of the net. Solomon Kalou's individual brilliance led to the 3rd goal. He dribbled past 2 defenders at the top of the box and smashed the ball past the keeper at the near post. The game ended 3-0, with Basa getting man of the match. However, Lorient had more possession that us, although we out shout them 13 to 10.



This result was the first in a long string of unsatisfactory results, thanks to our poor finishing. In this game, our defense got the job done, but our lack of finishing killed of any chance we had at 3 points. Gaten Courtet slipped behind our defense before slotting the ball home in the 21st minute, and instantly the heads of the players dropped. We struggled to do anything in until the 47th minute, where a random cross by Rio Mavuba met the head of new signing Vedad Ibesivic. We out shot them by one measly shot, but they had 14% more of the ball than we did. Even more striking was the 21 fouls we committed, which will eventually lead to cards and sending offs.



The third game we played was against Saint- Etienne, in another frustrating Ligue 1 match. This is always one of the most boring results in football. Nothing happened in the 90th minute, when Simone Pepe got injured. He'll be out for 4-5 weeks. Check the transfers section for more news on Simone Pepe.



Our last game was against Stade Rennais. This game would end as our first loss of the season, another game was our finishing was less than stellar. The only goal of the game came in the 47th minute, where Roman Allesandri scored an outstanding solo goal.

We are currently sitting 10th in the table after 4 games played, 1 point behind 9th place and 4 points off first.

Transfers

- Simone Pepe is the second signing this window. We've signed him on loan for Juventus, with a monthly fee of 97k euros He will be first choice at right wing, but he is currently injured for 4-6 weeks.

- Mark Basa leaves for Everton for 2.8 million euros. He was a great defender during his time at Lille, but I decided that the fee was too much to turn down for the 30 year old. The funds that we gain from this transfer will be reinvested into a new younger center back.

Our player of the month is.....................

Rio Mavuba. Mavuba was a rock this month at the CDM posistion. He was Man of the Match on once occasion and had a 7.9 average rating this month.
