Managing clubs with big stars joining on loan

So I've started my new game in FM14 using my favorite team Everton with enjoyment and success coming from using a modified version of Martinez's system. However, I'm stuck in a bit of a dilemma as while Lukaku is an absolute beast, I know the prospects of signing him long term are non-existent. I know he'll help me win, but I feel that might hurt long-term progress.

Any thoughts on this specifically or loans in general?

I experienced similar issues in FM13 that really bugged me. The best option would be to try and ask him about how he is finding the club, and play him regularly if you want to keep him. You may be able to keep him for another season then, and could well make him want to join permanently.

It's very similar to the Thibaut Courtois dilemma currently. Now in his third year at Atletico Madrid on loan, he's become a key player, and may well ask for a move there very soon.

Other than that, unfortunately I cannot think of much else.
