New manager, old name?
Following the shocking departure of Ian Holloway, the man who lead Crystal Palace to the premier league through the play-off finals, Palace were left in a sticky situation, having to find a new manager ahead of the new premier league season. Too many Palace fans, Holloway was the best they could ask for, but too many he was the man to lead them to the premier league, but not to keep them in the premier league.
Nobody would have thought that it would get to the stage that he would walk out, nobody....however, it happened. Once the news broke out, many names began to be linked with the empty job, such as Tony Pulis, Chris Coleman and even Newcastle's Alan Pardrew. Taking the Palace job would have gone through quite a few managers' minds. The South London side are upcoming and constantly developing. They have a bit of momentum, following their success in the Championship. The club has produced, and is producing very good youth talents such as Zaha, Moses and now Bolasie.
With Palace searching for a new manager, they would have been looking for someone who can motivate the lads, someone who is fairly established in the game of football and has an idea of how to get things done. Whether experienced, well known, or unknown, Palace would have done their homework on the managers they were considering but they picked one. This one player is a former Palace player, born in Woolwich, London. The former striker scored 90 goals in 225 appearances for the club, and joined them at the age of 22. Before this, he was a coach at MK Dons. He has two sons in the game already, one is well known, one not so.
