Background

My last Torquay save was not a success here due to lack of interest(perhaps?), so I decided to go it further and do a story on the man Bolton fans deemed so good they named him twice, and also exists in the world of FM 2014. The knock is, to make it realistic, he'll play assistant manager and I have to make a tactic similar to the 4-2-4/4-4-2 he's given with in FM 2014.

So here's how he looks in FM:

He'll come into the game unemployed but with international reputation, as he already has a good reputation in game.

Setting up the game

I loaded most upper leagues and all the way to the lower leagues of major nations. Because my computer obviously can. I like attending AI games whenever there is an empty hole in the game calendar, so the story will come at a slower pace, perhaps 3 matches an update.

Good luck :)
So Olhanense accepted me....
Good luck. How hard was the interview?
Apparently easy...

On not having a transfer budget, I might not know, Olhanense though, have a really huge squad which I look to offload. An aggressive 4-4-2 Atletico Madrid style might work, considering in my two saves before, Atleti played a defensive direct brand of football with both wingers(Turan and Koke) played as an AP(s), or seemed as is in an Atletico vs Man City match I attended.

4-2-3-1 would work too, considering that Olhanense possess loads of AMCs.
As a proud Nigerian, i love the concept. As a football manager freak, I'll be following!

First Game

Just finished my first game in charge! It was a cagey 2-1 win against Liga Orangina promotion candidates Portimonense, it could have been a clean sheet had Vid Belec not let a tame long range shot go through his legs. Per Kroldrup also missed a couple of big chances during corners, his height advantage not helping much.

Results

Tactic was a 4-2-3-1, fluid, attacking, direct.

With wingers told to lightly man mark their opposite winger, it resulted in a solid two banks of four while leaving the full backs free. We limited them to merely pinging the ball around in their own half, they went for just 9 shots, all from distance. Meanwhile, this tactic does very well when it comes to producing shots, which is crucial when going against a team like Porto and Benfica.

Friendlies

After all those friendlies I can say that the team is definitely not fluid enough for their first match vs Braga, although I'm very confident this team can at least avoid relegation. After some testing I managed to pull off a solid tactic by playing one fullback with a defensive mentality. The team though, could be more fluid since several players in the team are still having problems blending in, and a couple others have been acting overly smug and over-confident, leading to our team conceding silly goals.

We drew 2-2 against a slightly stronger(and much more pacier) Havre, which was quite pleasing for fans of a side who survived relegation by a hair a season before.

Signings

Massari:

William:

We have no natural left back at the start of the season so I signed two. Massari though, is still very raw at this moment.

Urreta

Right winger Urreta comes in to inject some extra pace which may prove helpful against the upper teams.

Player of Notice

This potential wonderkid has slammed in 9 goals in 7 appearances, earning consistently high ratings. I hope to sell him off to big clubs for big money, which might prove useful for signing free agents in.

In another story, I have signed former PSG legend Pauleta to do some scouting for me and former Chelsea man Paulo Ferreira as a U-19 coach and a translator in interviews.
Urreta will be a great signing, am I right in saying he is the Urreta that starts for Uruguay on occasion? or am I thinking of a different urreta? O.o anyway, some good results and I look forward to seeing how you develop this team:P
Also, isn't your game really slow with all those leagues open?

Not really, I tend to attend CPU vs CPU games simply for the fun of it so game speed is not an issue for me, I'm happy to play slow and update in a less overwhelming way, I'm not a fan of stories where a game year finishes in just one page.

BENFICA, 18 August 2013

In a particularly scrappy contest fought between Benfica and Olhanense which saw Benfica star Carlos Martins have to leave the pitch with a potentially serious knee ligament injury and Olha conceding two penalties, this was almost a battleground on the pitch. Not exactly the season opener the fans would have wanted.

However, Benfica managed to win this battle 5-2, all their goals coming from set-piece situations. Oscar Cardozo opened with a scrappy 17th minute following a goal line scramble. However, Olhao unexpectedly managed to even things up after a Per Kroldrup long ball found the feet of 18 year old striker Diego Goncalves, who somehow managed to handle the wild ball and apply the finish past a bedazzled Artur.

Artur did not disappoint afterwards though, a brilliant consecutive saves against Rui Duarte and Jander managed to keep them in the game until Olhao midfielder Pele gave what seemed to be a very controversial penalty on the edge of the box which many pundits believe shouldn't be a foul in the first place. Left back Sigueira applied the penalty with perfect execution, keeping his composure against an excellent Ricardo Pereira.

Half-time came and in the 65th minute, an excellent lofted pass from Jander found the feet of Olhao left wingback Willian, breaking the offside trap and applying the finish excellently to draw 2-2.

But when things looked to be a draw, an innocent looking tussle between Olhao CB Ricardo Ferreira and Oscar Cardozo during a corner was deemed a penalty by the referee. Sigueira once again slotted in the penalty.

Benfica later added in two more goals, a volley from Nemanja Matic following a poorly cleared corner and a 90th minute free kick which was headed in by Ezequiel Garay.

My first month in league management should be considered a success really, the loss against Benfica should rather be forgotten, instead, the satisfying 4-1 crushing of Sporting Lisbon proves how good I am.

Benfica 5-2 Olhanense
Bad game to say the least, we conceded two penalties and 3 goals from set pieces. The team are practicing more of that currently to prevent such defeats. 18 year old Diego Goncalves scored on his debut following an incredible Per Kroldrup pass that would make Ian Holloway happy. Willian Pereira, signed from the depths of lower league Brazillian football, also scored on his debut following an excellent diagonal pass from Jander. There are positives, for sure.

Olhanense 1-0 Belenenses
This was a cagey game to say the least, both sets of goalkeepers were doing extremely good, but something had to give in the end. Both sets of teams had their chances, but Portugal legend Ricardo got the better of Belenenses's English goalkeeper named "Matt Jones". Ribeiro got the winning goal on the 76th minute, after pinging the post twice, I moved him to the left in the expense of Urreta and it was a particularly good tactical decision. Ribeiro simply dribbled his way past the Belenenses back-line and smashed in the winning goal

Sporting 1-4 Olhanense
A match to remember, not only were we heavy underdogs, it was played away, in front of TVs all across Europe, we defeated Sporting Lisbon by quite a heavy margin. Manager Jardim was left in all sorts of speechlessness, he stormed out immediately following the match in utter disgust. Ricardo did excellent in goal, although it has to be said that the strike trio of Capel-Slimani-Carillo was a bad tactical decision in itself.

Potential wonderkid Tibor Cica opened the scoring with a spectacular volley in the 28th minute. Zakaria Labyad the turned things around with a powerful shot from 21 meters. Olhanense were not to be done, however, Diego Goncalves once again turned things around and knocked in a near post free kick from Celestino. Rui Duarte connected well with a Ribeiro cross and scored Olha's 3rd goal of the game. We then added another goal in injury time, a corner scramble found the feet of Ribeiro who walked the ball in the goal while loud boos commenced from the stands of Estadio Jose Alvalade.

A small set back though, captain Rui Duarte had to exit with broken ribs after a collision with Sporting's Evaldo, ruling him out for a month.

Player of the Month

Joao Ribeiro:

His direct running has run defenses ragged, scoring 2 goals, 1 assist and a player of the match performance against Sporting CP. He made me sorry for not playing him in the match against Benfica.

New signings

Jeremie Roumegous:

This previously unknown player comes on loan from the depths of 4th division French football, although he's doing much better than Ricardo Ferreira and Vitor Bastos's poor showing against Benfica. I hope I can sign this player by the end of season, as Kroldrup is most definitely not going to sign again. I can thank Pauleta for finding this gem of a player!
This just in:

Celestino, Ricardo, Diego Goncalves and Ribeiro found themselves in the Team of the Week

Pretty much a special one for us, as the Zon Sagres Team of the Week usually is filled with players from Porto, Lisbon and Benfica.
