Arsenal bring in another two players!
Arséne Wenger is starting to convince many that he actually has a war chest of money as he has gone and signed two additional players to try and strengthen his side and add some depth. Davide Santon and Carlos Vela have been signed for fees of 7.5 million and 3.4 million (buy back clause). This is Vela's second spell at Arsenal after he left the club just last year. Obviously, with Wenger in dire need of another striker, Vela was his first choice and most convenient choice.
Santon, the Italian defender is said to have been bought to start at Arsenal. Reports suggest that Wenger was unhappy with his current left backs and sent scouts out to look for a new one, in which they found Santon to be a very good yet underrated player. The Italian didn't hesitate when it came to signing for Arsenal and expressed his delight at being able to play Champions league football:
"
Arsenal is a big club and a club I have always respected. I love the way they play football. The champions league is the best tournament in the world, and to be able to play in it will be amazing. The world cup is next year and I would like to be part of the squad that travels to Brazil. When talking to Mr.Wenger he guaranteed me playing time in all competitions not just a few here and there. I know sometimes I will have to rotate but I am looking forward to my future with the club."
Carlos Vela on the other hand, vowed to redeem himself after an unsuccessful first period at the club before leaving:
"
During my first spell at the club, things didn't really go to plan. I know I wasn't at my best when Arsenal needed me to step up most, which is why I was allowed to go. The fans would have been frustrated and I hope they can forgive me and support myself and the others players ahead of the new season. I was at the game at Crystal Palace where we won 1-0 and I was impressed with what I saw."
Ghanian midfielder, Emmanuel Frimpong has departed the club and joined Nottingham Forest for a fee of 1.2 million. The midfielder was deemed to be surplus to requirements by Arséne Wenger and therefore he had no choice but to let him go.
Arsenal kicked off their premier league campaign with a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace. English winger Oxlade Chamberlain scored the winner to give the gunners the three points. Arsenal will face FC Red Bull Salzburg in their champions league playoff. Not qualifying for the champions league would be a disaster for the club, but very comical to their rivals.
