Roberto Di Matteo - Regaining my Reputation

Speaking to Sky Sports News, former West Brom and Chelsea manager has said that he is ready to return to football and become a manager again. Di Matteo was sacked by Chelsea back in 2012 after his side failed to qualify for the Champions League, but now he’s ready to return.

He has been linked with numerous posts over the last six months but has never taken any job but has discussed his plans.

“I have missed my time out of the game” Di Matteo stated, “I have thought about for a while and I think now it is time I returned to football” The Swiss born Coach then sent a message to all clubs in the top two divisions on English football telling them: “Come and get me!”

Numerous clubs across the championship and even clubs in countries such as Spain and Germany are even after his services. He has even been linked with a return to Chelsea or even to former club
Lazio. No statement has been made by any of the clubs but Di Matteo is optimistic.

Di Matteo even stated: “I don’t mind not getting a job at the start of the season, but I will keep an eye on the clubs across the world and see what’s available and if I’m interested then I shall send in my CV and see what happens!”

Yes, my name is Roberto Di Matteo. I was born in Switzerland and am a former player and manager. But now I am back into football, but I have a choice to make. Four clubs, all not doing well in Championship, but which one should I take.

I thought over this numerous times, just sat in a deckchair on my long balcony overlooking a swimming pool (at my Mansion in Italy). I discussed it with my agent, my family and almost everyone I knew but I was still stuck. So I decided to look at where they finished last year. I like an easy ride, but I also like a challenge.

I may have won the Champions League with Chelsea but being in a relegation battle in the Championship (in December) wouldn't be easy. I then discussed my thoughts with friends and fa,ily and we decided what we wanted. Then, I sent the email. They told me to meet me at their training ground.


I caught the plane from Milan and left for Gatwick and eventually arrived in England. A top sports car was waiting for me, when I lived in England, I left my car behind but my close friends looked after it. I then left off and drove to the training ground.

I arrived their and had my bag around my shoulder, it was a very hot day and I was sweating inside of my suit, I entered the building and began negotiations and after a couple of hours, he offered me the contract. I told him I need a week to think things over.


I had made by decision, I would sign the contract, and that is what I did. I knew that this was a new step in my career. But I was appointed the evening on the day before the first match, I was sent the training reports and picked a team and seven subs.

After that, I left for a five star hotel I was staying in until the club sorted out my accommodation, and I knew that now was the time. The time to head back on top of the ladder and reach the very top of football.

On Brighton and Hove Albions website, they have announced that the former West Brom, MK Dons and Chelsea's Champions League winning manager Roberto Di Matteo will be their new Head Coach. Di Matteo has signed a contract with the club which will last until the end of the season.

When questioned about why he joined Brighton, he had this to say: "I believe that Brighton have a huge amount of potential, they finished well last season and there is no reason why we can't succeed"

Then people wondered what were his ambitions were, and lets say that he is aiming high, "We may be sitting just above the relegation zone, but the Championship is a very tight league. If we can bring in some new faces in January, and change around the teams form, we could aim for the playoffs again!

The Chairman said "To have someone of Roberto's ability coach the team it is a great experience not just for us as owners, chairman and other coaches, but also for the players. To work under someone with plenty of experience and with strict discipline, I expect the team to get back in form and achieve Roberto's ambitions!"

However, Di Matteo's first game is tomorrow afternoon at home to second in the league Huddersfield Town and his side will have to be up to scratch in order to get a decent result if they are to begin their road to recovery.
