Levein Returns To Hearts
In possibly the biggest shock appointment so far this season, Debt-ridden Heart of Midlothian have hired former Scotland boss Craig Levein to take the club forward after the sacking of previous boss Gary Locke.
Levein attracted criticism for negative tactics whilst managing the Scottish National Team but he has said he has a new plan for Hearts: "I know how much the Scottish public criticised me for my boring football, some saying I killed the game as a spectator but I have a whole new mindset and plan for Hearts.
As many of you know, this is my 3rd spell at Hearts. I played over 300 games here as a player and took Hearts into consecutive European spots for the first time since the 1960's. I also took Hearts into 3rd place in two consecutive seasons. I love it here"
When asked about his new ambitions the returning Levein said: "Well, we need to shake off the debt first, that will be a challenge and we have a transfer embargo placed on us at the moment so consolidation in the top flight is something I hope to succeed in and then we'll see where we go from there"
Levein played for Hearts as a defender from 1983 to 1997 and made 326 appearances and scored 15 goals for them after his £40,000 move from Cowdenbeath in 1983. He also took charge as manager for Hearts from 2000 to 2004 after a spell at former club Cowdenbeath and proved a success, finishing 3rd, behind Rangers and Celtic in two consecutive seasons and then taking Hearts into European Competitions 2 seasons in a row.
