Steve Bruce sacked!
Hull City Chairman Assem Allam released a statement today confirming the sacking of Manager Steve Bruce. This comes following reports over the weekend that Bruce and Allam had a falling out over the direction of the club with Bruce criticizing the board's ambition. The statement reads as follows:
“We can announce that Steve Bruce has been relieved of his duties as first-team manager effective immediately. We would like to thank Steve for his service to the club in guiding us back to the premier league but we felt a new face was needed for the next part of our journey. We ask that the fans be patient while we search for our next manager.”
Speculation is rife over possible candidates to take the reigns at the KC Stadium, some pundits have suggested Phil Brown could be a shock reappearance at Hull while others have claimed Steve Clarke is the man on the mind of Allam to lead the club forward.
Another Hull story? Eh
Good Luck
Alan Shearer appointed Hull City Manager!
Reporters gathered today at the KC Stadium for a surprise press conference called by the Hull chairman. Allam addressed the gathered reporters and announced he was pleased to reveal the next manager of Hull City A.F.C and out of the darkness stepped Alan Shearer. This move came as a total surprise as it was believed Hull had been looking for more experienced managers with Steve Clarke reported to have interviewed for the job a few days ago. This appointment is Shearer's first management post since his failed attempt to save Newcastle from the drop in 2009. When asked why he had chosen such an inexperienced manager Allam replied with,
“Alan is one of the most respected footballers in England and had an incredible playing career, we believe that this will allow him to inspire and relate to his squad better than a more experienced manager farther removed from their playing career.”
As most will know, Shearer enjoyed an extremely successful playing career including 10 years at Newcastle. During his playing days Shearer amassed a great deal of individual accolades and goal scoring records including being the record Premier League scorer with 206. In addition to his Premier League success, Shearer won 63 senior caps for England scoring 30 goals including 5 goals in Euro 96 earning him the golden boot award.
Shearer then addressed the media himself, declaring his excitement at taking charge of such a fantastic club and thanking the board for their confidence in his abilities. He then proclaimed that Hull would beat the drop and achieve a safe position in the middle of the table. When asked if he had any transfer targets, Shearer seemed reluctant to divulge any information before answering "I think we have a fantastic squad here, the signings of Huddlestone and Livermore will be big additions for us, but I think would could use some depth in defense but I won't be delving into the market unless the deal is right."
This has certainly been an interesting turn of events and one can only hope that for the supporters of “The Tigers” this experiment is a successful one.
