Bury FC have confirmed the appointment of David Moyes as their new manager.
The 50 year-old has agreed a one-year contract with The Shakers and will take charge immediately.
Moyes, who is currently managing Manchester United, will be joined at Gigg Lane by his number two, Steve Round, who has also announced his resignation as Assistant Manager at Old Trafford.
“It’s a much bigger challenge than I have taken on before, but it was one that I’m excited about taking on!” The Scotsman said, via Bury’s Twitter Feed,
“I am grateful that Bury have allowed me to take over, even after the disaster that I had last season at Manchester United.”
“Some people may have criticised my managerial ability after my time at [Manchester] United. But I hope that I can prove all the doubters wrong and bring success to this club!”
Club chairman, Stewart Day told the club website,
“We looked around for a good enough replacement, after the sacking of David Flitcroft, and we believed that due to David’s [Moyes] experience in higher leagues, that he would be the perfect replacement!”
Moyes began his coaching career at Preston North End in 1998, following the resignation of Gary Peters, before moving to Everton, who he managed for 11 years.
During his time at Goodison Park, Moyes won the LMA Manager of the Year award a total of three times. In the 02/03 season, the 04/05 season and the 08/09 season. After bringing some great seasons to the Toffees, David Moyes was brought in as the replacement of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.
The Scot has promised the club that they would win the Sky Bet League 2 trophy this season, a target which has been laughed at by some. The big question now is, who will take over Manchester United.
