Schalke start to rebuild

FC Schalke 04 have decided to begin strengthening their squad almost straight after their season has ended, as they have announced the signing of Germany goalkeeper Marc-André ter-Stegen from relegated Borussia Monchengladbach for a fee of £27 million. The keeper will slot straight into the first team, meaning that DFB-Pokal final hero Lars Unnerstall will move to the bench or to another club.

Schalke have also decided to strengthen their attacking options with the signing of Serbian Aleksandar Mitrovic from Anderlecht for £10 million. The physical striker is regarded as an up and coming striker throughout Europe, and with 19 goals in 34 games last term, he has really shown that there is proof to these statements. A partnership of Mitrovic and Volland next season will surely be very powerful, as club vice-captain Klaas-Jan Huntelaar looks set to leave after Wilmots had reportedly said he would like a younger squad.

Germany and Schalke midfielder Julian Draxler has come under interest from Manchester City and Real Madrid recently, with Manchester City reportedly having a £26 million bid rejected by Schalke. Real Madrid have yet to make an offer for the midfielder who lit up the Bundesliga this season, with 20 year old picking up 28 goals and 27 assists in 52 appearances during the season.
Schalke have also picked up some excellent youth prodigies and we will be bringing them to you over the next week.
