MATCH DAY 1
A PERFECT START

Liverpool FC: 51' Sturridge, 60' John Henderson, 48' Alex Sandro
Man of the match: Martin Skrtel

Liverpool hammer Southampton. Liverpool had their midfield to thank on a wet evening at Anfield as they showed their strikers how to finish. Liverpool finally took the lead when winger Daniel Sturridge scored a fierce shot in the 51st minute. Midfielder Jordan Henderson completed the scoring for Liverpool with an incisive finish from 16 meters in the 60th minute.

Martin Skrtel put in a player pf the match performance during the Liverpool victory over Southampton. The defender looked on played fantastically, distributing the ball well and led the line well with some committed defending. The central defender's impressive timing of the challenge was very much evident in this impressive display.

MATCH DAY 2
DISAPPOINTING DEFEAT

Liverpool FC: 32' Leiva, 76' Coutinho
Chelsea FC: 44'pen Lampard
Man of the match: Lucas Leiva

Liverpool's poor performance adds to disappointing defeat. Liverpool's match against Chelsea will have been a moment Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge will want to forget as he suffered defeat at the hands of his former club. Chelsea's winner came through Frank Lampard as he seized on Martin Skrtel mistake to score a powerful penalty. Liverpool covered a lot of ground but also gave up far too many fouls, meaning their effort was often for nothing.

SECOND ROUND
STERLING EFFECT

Liverpool FC: 3',43' Sterling, 35' Johnson, 86' Gerrard
Man of the match: Rahem Sterling

Liverpool win in Capital One cup. Liverpool are through to the Third round after 2-0 win over Huddersfield at The John Smith's Stadium. The English Premier Division team have merely lived up to pre-competition expectations by qualifying for the next round and will be looking to advance further.

Liverpool had their midfield to thank on a breezy evening at Huddersfield Town territory as they showed their striker how to finish. Winger Raheem Sterling got Liverpool off to a flying start by scoring a deftly executed finish in 3rd minute. Sterling completed the scoring for Liverpool with a close range header in the 43rd minute. The winger's impressive performance was down to the constant goal threat he posed due to the accuracy of shooting.
