I found the Steam 500,000,000 pound challenge on the Steam Workshop and decided to give it a go. At first, my plan was to build a team of players who would be considered good signings for the Skrill South but then I saw my grayed out players and their stats and the challenge changed. I'm going to try to keep my job without signing "big names" (that was never going to be possible anyway) and instead focus on developing these grayed out players and sign the minimal amount of additional players possible -- although I will be taking part in signing youth intake players every year to try and strengthen my squad. I went ahead and signed two players at the start who weren't grayed out: first, I signed Willy Gallas (CB) because I needed someone with international experience, good personality and high leadership to be my captain. I only expect him to be around for one or maybe two years (he's 35) but by the time he's gone, we'll likely have a leader in our ranks or I'll bite the bullet and buy another. With him, I bought a vice captain, the (only slightly) younger Mahammadou Diarra (DM) who played for Real Madrid in his hey day. But they aren't what this is all about. We're here for the regens:

So those are the regens. Obviously, I need another striker and some backups for the Centre Mid and Centre Attacking Mid. I'll update you on my Assistant Manager and cup run shortly.
So I forgot to mention that I started this save off in December 2012 because I thought I would need the time to put together a squad, train them to the tactics and get them working well together. Obviously I didn't need that amount of time nor was I going to get it: turns out we had to play for the FA Trophy all winter even if we didn't have actual league competition going on. Good news: we won the FA Trophy without even breaking a sweat. Here's the fixtures list:

As you can see, we've always been the dominant team but it is clear from the increasing scorelines that we're getting better and better and the boys are coming together more. As for the competitions itself, we had the top three scorers, the top four average ratings and the top assists:

On the staff front, I've signed what I consider to be a pretty excellent assistant manager:

And here is coach ratings on training:

So I'm very excited about how that panned out. Now we have a long off-season ahead before we get into the actual season.
Good Luck :)

A quick update, I signed everyone to longer contract extensions (most are signed through 2018, some 2017 and there was one stubborn bastard who wouldn't sign for anything longer than 2015) so I feel good about that. We also played six friendlies in the pre-season, winning 5 and drawing 1 against Arsenal at 3 all. Looking forward to what should be a pretty remarkable season.
Good Luck! Interesting challenge
Well done, can I ask where you found this challenge? (where you found it on steam)
Thanks guys.

@Aaron -- it was on the Steam Workshop. I'll have another update for you lot soon.
Very good results so far mate!
