Who is Lothar?

Lothar Herbert Matthäus, born 21 March 1961 in Erlangen, West Germany, is a German football manager and former player. After captaining West Germany to victory in the 1990 FIFA World Cup, he was named European Footballer of the Year. In 1991, he was named the first ever FIFA World Player of the Year, and remains the only German to have received the award.

He has played in five FIFA World Cups (1982, 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998) more than any other outfield player, and holds the record for the most World Cup matches played by a single player (25 games). He also won UEFA Euro 1980, and played in the 1984, 1988, and 2000 UEFA European Football Championships. In 1999, aged 38, he was again voted German Footballer of the Year, having previously won the award in 1990.

Matthäus is the most capped German player of all time, retiring with a total of 150 appearances (83 for West Germany) in 20 years, and 23 goals for the German national team. Matthäus is a member of the FIFA 100 – a list of 125 of the greatest living football players chosen by Pelé. Diego Maradona said about Matthäus "he is the best rival I've ever had. I guess that's enough to define him" in his book Yo soy el Diego (I am Diego).

A versatile and complete player, Matthäus was renowned for his perceptive passing, positional sense, and well-timed tackling, as well as his explosive shot. During his career, he usually played as a box-to-box midfielder, although later in his career he played as a sweeper.

In July 2013 he signed a contract with Liverpool FC, England.

Matthäus's Story. How did i got the offer?

Home, Erlangen, July 2013. My life looks complete: a former football player and a retired coach, full of money and fame. I have all the time in the world to relax. I will stay in Erlangen for a while, here's where i fell best. That's a nice summer monday night and the bed looks now the best place to rest. Let's turn on the TV... What!? I was thinking that Liverpool's board have a lot of faith in Brendan Rodgers, and now, he is fired? C'mon, Sky Sports, i want to find out more details about this... Oh, here they are... "After a conflict with Thomas Werner generated by club's philosophies, Brendan Rodger was fired by Liverpool FC days before starting the friendlies campaign.". That's not fair! Oh, God, what boss is that? Probably Brendan had other philosophies to put aside, i think mr. Werner is making a terrible mistake! "Sky Sport breaking news: former international german star rumoured for Liverpool's takeover!"... What? I'll be glad to see a former mate of me in charge at Liverpool, i can't wait to see who he is! Ooooh, not the cellphone... I will go downstairs to see who's looking for me. Um, that's an english number! Probably he's my good friend Markus Babbel, he's a big Liverpool fan and he wants to discuss the Rodgers topic. I will take this... "Hello, mr. Matthäus, sorry for disturbing you, i'm Thomas Werner, Liverpool FC's boss and i want you to come as soon as possible in England for some discussions. I had a word with your good friend Markus Babbel and he recommended you as a future Liverpool's head coach. I know that sounds crazy but i really trust Markus and i'm sure you can bring Liverpool to glory again.". I'm shocked. Oh my God... Yes, mr. Werner, i'm taking the plane tomorrow and i'll come to England. I am delighted to return to football at a club like Liverpool is...

So, that's how i totally changed my retired coach mind... I'm glad to manage a club like Liverpool and i'm sure that i can make great performance there.

Buying youngsters and taking the club to Europe. Will that be a great year for me?

Right after i signed the contract, Werner told me the philosophies of the club, philosophies which fired Rodgers: "I expect you to play an attacking, speedy football and to sign youngsters. That's how we can ensure a solid future and i'm confident in bringing the team on top.". After hearing that, i couldn't believe that a manager like Rodgers didn't accepted these philosophies. I totally agreed with this politic and i'm sure i can bring to reality all these objectives.
Great introduction to the manager! Good luck for the season!
Great start! Good luck!
Nice start and good luck
Good Luck man!

Good training month for Liverpool

It was a really good month. I'm not concerned at all about the two draws we made. We dominated the matches and created many situations. I'm very happy for Luciano Vietto after scoring two goals against Sabadell and i'm sure we will have a better August.

Liverpool's new coach involved in Wonderkinds business

I am delighted because i bought these three players and i want to sign one or two more players next month. I'm also happy because i could send players

out on loan to gain first team football experience. Many people don't have faith in Jones but i paid that amount of money because i'm sure he will contribute soon to our team's glory.

Two heart-breaking results for Liverpool fans

We started the month well, with two good wins. But, what was comming is a true disaster. The Man Utd loss from Old Trafford really disappointed me, especially because we lost in the last minute. I'm happy for qualifying in the Capital One Cup's next round but i'm sure we didn't deserved to lose against Fulham. I hope that September will be better because that's what all the fans want.

Two more youngsters signed, Kolo Toure leaving for a free, youngster Jones sent out on loan

I'm glad we signed Mario and Onazi, they're two great players for the close future. I sent Jones out on loan to gain experience and i'm sure he'll soon be a good Premier League player. Though defense competition forced me to sent Toure out for a mutual termination. I have a great relationship with him and i'm sure he understood the club's politic.

TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY. Liverpool signed Wolfsburg's Rodriguez

In the last day of transfers Liverpool managed to buy one more player, this time a 21 years old Switzerland international. Ricardo Rodriguez joined Liverpool for a fee of ?4.9M and signed a contract until 30 June 2016, with an yearly wage of ?1.1M.

"I wanted to buy a young left back considering that Aly Cissokho is here on a loan. I have a lot of faith in him and i'm sure he will contribute at club's performances." declared Lothar Matthäus.

Ricardo Iván Rodríguez Araya (born 25 August 1992) is a Swiss footballer who plays as left Back for Liverpool in the Premier League. He's born to a Spanish father and a Chilean mother.

Rodríguez was part of the youth setup for FC Zürich, before joining the senior squad in 2009. He was sold to VfL Wolfsburg on 20 January 2012 and made his Bundesliga debut against 1. FC Köln. He played every game of the season from that point on, becoming a favorite on the left of the defence for manager Felix Magath. Rodríguez was never subbed off. Through the first ten league games of the following campaign, Rodríguez was once again an ever present in the squad, featuring in all the outings, starting eight. On 2 September 2013, it was reported that Wolfsburg rejected a £6 million offer from Sunderland. On 9 November 2013, he scored his first goal for VfL Wolfsburg, from a direct free kick in a home match against Borussia Dortmund. The
match ended 2–1 win for Wolfsburg, although they were losing in half-time. This was also his first Bundesliga goal ever.

In 2009, he was part of the Swiss U-17 team who won the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup. He made his debut for the senior team on 7 October 2011 in Switzerland's 2–0 loss to Wales in Euro 2012 qualifying.

Matthäus concluded his impressive transfer market campaign

After signing Wolfsburg's Rodriguez, Lothar Matthäus declared that he isn't involved in any other transfer story. So, after buying six youngsters, sending out on loan 19 players and terminated Kolo Toure's contract, the new Liverpool's boss spent a total amount of 25.36M.
